ELIZABETH J. WILT
CUMBERLAND -- Elizabeth J. Wilt, 75, of the Cumberland Nursing Center, died Monday, June 4, 2001, at the nursing center.
Born on Sept. 28, 1925, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Helen (Baker) Anderson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Wilt.
Mrs. Wilt was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Mark's Church, past-president of the American Legion Auxiliary #13, member of the Never-Too-Late dance group and also volunteered for the Salvation Army, Red Cross and the Cumberland Theatre.
Surviving are one daughter, Donna Rae Lehman and husband George, Cumberland; one son, David Dale Marshall and wife Debbie, Bradenton, Fla.; one brother, Donald R. Anderson and wife Marion, Dublin, Va.; one sister, Jean Warner, Cumberland; four grandsons, Dave Lehman, Ray Lehman, Tim Lehman and Steven James Marshall; one granddaughter, Julie Beth Marshall; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
At Mrs. Wilt's request, she was cremated. There will be no visitation or funeral services.
The Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, is in charge of the arrangements.
STANLEY FRIEND
OAKLAND -- Stanley "Bud" Friend, 71, of Oakland, died Sunday, June 3, 2001, at the University of Maryland Medical Center, Baltimore.
Born on Jan. 1, 1930, in Turner Douglas, W.Va., he was the son of the late Bruner Friend and Edith (Sines) Friend. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Matthews and Ruby Fike; two brothers, Delbert Friend and Clarence Friend; and a half brother, Garland Friend.
Mr. Friend was retired from the Buffalo Coal Company, where he ran the warehouse for 23 years and mined coal for 17 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, a member of the Shady Dell Chapel, where he served as a Deacon, and a member of the NRA.
Surviving are his wife, Wilma (Shreeve) Friend; one son, Steven B. Friend, Oakland; one daughter, Daisy Murray, Oakland; one brother, Donnie Friend, Charleston, W.Va.; one sister, Alice Moats, Terra Alta, W.Va.; and five grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Shady Dell Chapel on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ivan Ackerman and the Rev. Donald Upole officiating.
Interment will be in the Beckman Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded at graveside by members of local veterans organizations.
DALE J. WAKEFOOSE
CUMBERLAND -- Dale John Wakefoose, 73, of Cumberland, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at Memorial Hospital.
Born on April 13, 1928, in Bedford, Pa., he was the son of the late Frank Wakefoose and Helen (Lyons) Wakefoose Siefert. He was also preceded in death by one sister and one brother.
Mr. Wakefoose was retired from the Allegany County Roads Department. He was a former employee of the Old German Brewery and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a Lutheran by faith.
Surviving are his wife, Clara (Bare) Wakefoose; one daughter, Karon L. Price and Scott, Wiley Ford, W.Va.; three sons, Dan Wakefoose and wife Sandi, Wiley Ford, David Wakefoose, Mansfield, Texas, and Steve Wakefoose, Cumberland; one brother, Vaughn Wakefoose and wife Shirley, Altoona, Pa.; four grandchildren, Nicholas Price, Jessi Price, Sarah Wakefoose and Joel Wakefoose; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m. with Father Milton A. Hipsley officiating.
Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens. Military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
GEORGE L. BECKMAN
CUMBERLAND -- George Lewis Beckman, 82, formerly of 623 Leiper St., Cumberland, and residing at Frostburg Village Nursing Home, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at the home.
Born on Feb. 13, 1919, in Bedford County, Pa., he was the son of the late Barbara Barnes. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Vera Grace (Hymes) Beckman on Jan. 18, 1983.
Mr. Beckman was a retired truck mechanic for the former Super Concrete Company. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of Henry Hart Post #1411, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #245, and Teamsters Local #434.
He is survived by a son, Donald L. Beckman and wife Lois, Mt. Savage; a daughter, Shirley Beckman and special friend Rita F. Malloy, Ellerslie; and a half brother, John Himmler.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Wayne R. Turner officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded at the graveside by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
ESTA M. WILLISON
CUMBERLAND -- Esta Marie Willison, 70, of 15507 Winslow St., SW, Cumberland, and residing at Cumberland Nursing Home, died Monday, June 4, 2001, at Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit.
Born on Aug. 8, 1930, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late John Granville Kerns and Florine (Brookman) Kerns.
Mrs. Willison was the founder of Professional Business Service in 1977, she owned and operated the service until her retirement in 1992. She was a member of Cresaptown United Methodist Church. A 1948 graduate of Allegany High School, she was recognized for 12 years of perfect attendance. She also attended Catherman's Business School. Her career in the professional world began with the University of Maryland and Kelly Springfield Tire and Rubber Company.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by her husband, Frederick Allen Willison, with whom she celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary on May 5, 2001; a daughter, Leslie Ann Bowen and husband Dennis, York, Pa.; two granddaughters, Lara Marie Bowen, Charlottesville, Va., and Becky Lynn Bowen, York; and a great-grandson, Donavin Williams, York.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Harold R. McClay Jr. officiating.

FRANCES OTT
PIEDMONT, W.Va. -- Frances Ott, 85, formerly of Piedmont, died at Dawn View Nursing Home, Romney, on Monday, June 4, 2001.
She was born in Piedmont, on Nov. 12, 1915, and was the daughter of the late James V. Ott and Charity Crabtree Ott. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, James and Robert Ott.
She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Westernport, Md. She retired from Westvaco Corp., as a secretary in 1970.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Elaine D. Ott, Romney; a niece, Patricia Anderson, Romney; and two great-nephews, Michael and Timothy Anderson of Romney.
Graveside services will be held at St. Peter's cemetery on Wednesday morning at 9:30 a.m. by Father Paul Byrnes.
Memorials can be directed to St. Peter's school or church.
Arrangements are being handled by the Fredlock Funeral Home in Piedmont.
