John was born on the 6th of March, 1913, in Edinburgh, Scotland. He was the second youngest of 11 children raised by a wonderfully strong widowed mother. It was in these close family ties that he learned to cherish friendships and to enjoy the telling of a good story.

He served proudly in the Royal Air Force during WW II. Married Catherine Cormack in July 1938. He came to America in 1947 and worked 27 years for PEPCO, retiring in 1975. They lived in the Bethesda and Rockville area until moving to LaVale in 1986. John was widowed in 1990. He lovingly cared for his wife through her long illness.

John was a member of the Masonic Lodge and recently received recognition of his 50-year membership in the Order of the Eastern Star (Pentalpha Chapter 38).

John made friends wherever he went and loved to make people laugh. He liked to hike, camp and had a passion for golf. He worked hard and was a loving husband and father. He loved his church, family and all his friends. And they in turn were wonderful to him. He has now "traded in" his worn out body for a young and vibrant one and his twinkling humor will live on in our memories.
