MARY E. MILLER
CUMBERLAND -- Mary E. Miller, 71, of Cumberland, died Thursday, May 24, 2001, at Memorial Hospital.
Born on May 25, 1929, in Wellersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Ella (Conners) Petenbrink. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Raley and Rozella Piper.
Mrs. Miller was a retired seamstress for Undergarment Company. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. She was an avid bingo player, gardener, and flea market enthusiast. She loved her winter home in Florida. Mr. and Mrs. Miller celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on May 3, 2001.
Surviving are her husband of 50 years, Paul L. Miller; three daughters, Darlene Miller, Baltimore, Rosemary Scarpelli and husband James "Eddie" Scarpelli, LaVale, and Paulette Porter and husband Dave, LaVale; seven grandchildren, Paul, Ryan, Stacey and Bradley Norton, Andrew Scarpelli, and Raymond and Marshall Porter; two great-grandchildren, Samantha and Brandon; and four sisters, Vivian Krause and husband Robert, Homewood Addition, and Betty Harman, Rodella Swanger and husband Robert, and Loretta Hanekamp, all of Cumberland.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake will be conducted on Monday at 8 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at 9 a.m. with Monsignor Thomas R. Bevan as celebrant. Pastor Bernadette M. Ross, Pastor of LaVale United Methodist Church, will be present at the service.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be three grandsons, Raymond Porter, Paul Norton and Ryan Norton, and friends, Paul Lapp and Paul Lapp Jr.
The family requests contributions be made to St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
EMMA G. WARNER
CUMBERLAND -- Emma G. Warner, 90, of the Allegany County Nursing Home, formerly of Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at the nursing home.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Merica and a brother, Harry Thomas Keefer.
In addition to her survivors are a sister-in-law, Isabelle Keefer, Williamsport.
AUDREY V. MORRIS
CUMBERLAND -- Audrey Virginia Morris, 70, of 230 Bond St., Cumberland, died Friday, May 25, 2001, at Memorial Hospital.
Born on May 11, 1931, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Merril Issac Dicken and Luvina K. (Winters) Dicken. She was also preceded in death by a daughter Tammy Lynn Morris; six sisters; and two brothers.
Mrs. Morris was a devoted mother and homemaker.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, James P. Morris; a son, David E. Morris and wife Rosalind, Cumberland; two brothers, Richard and Garland Dicken, both of Cumberland; eight grandchildren, Krista Lynn Morris, David Anthony Morris, Devin Andrew Morris, Shaunna K. Baker, Chad P. Baker, James J.A. Stevens and Christina M. Stevens, all of Cumberland, and Earl Lee Emerick of Florida.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. David Stottlemyer officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
DANIEL L. UPOLE
OAKLAND -- Daniel L. Upole, 68, of Oakland, died on Thursday, May 24, 2001, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born on April 12, 1933, in Deer Park, he was the son of the late Layman V. Upole and Minnie (Harvey) Upole.
Mr. Upole was retired from the State Highway Administration, where he was employed as a road foreman. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and was awarded the good conduct medal. He was also a member of the Highway Assembly of God Church.
Surviving are his wife, Betty (Paugh) Upole; two sons, Daniel L. Upole of Horse Shoe Run, W.Va., and Robert A. Upole of Oakland; two daughters, Shirley Gallagher, Mountain Lake Park, and Mary Kitzmiller, Deer Park; four brothers, William Upole, Moorefield, W.Va., Mark Upole, Deer Park, Granville Upole, Akron, Ohio, and David Harvey, Deer Park; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Highway Assembly of God Church, Monday at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Gail Hixon officiating. Friends may call at the church after 1 p.m. Monday.
Interment will be in Deer Park Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded at graveside by members of local veterans organizations.
ZITA SOMERVILLE
KILLEEN, Texas -- Services for Zita Somerville, 89, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home Chapel in Killeen, with the Father Ray Clancy officiating.
Burial of cremated remains will be at a later date at Glenhaven Cemetery, Glen Burnie, Md.
Mrs. Somerville died May 22, 2001, at a local Killeen hospital. She was born on Aug. 9, 1911, in Maryland.
Mrs. Somerville was preceded in death by her husband George Douglas Somerville.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Killeen, and has lived in the area for 10 years.
Mrs. Somerville worked at the Anne Arundel County Offices in Maryland.
Survivors include six grandsons, Doug Somerville of Desoto, David Somerville of Killeen, Mike Somerville of Alexandria, Va., John Somerville, Cincinnati, Ohio, James Somerville, Columbia, S.C., Thomas Somerville, of Cincinnati ; one granddaughter, Kathy Turner of Burleson; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors from 12 noon until the service time on Saturday at the funeral home.
DAVID L. GENTRY SR.
WESTERNPORT -- David Leroy Gentry Sr., 75, of 317 Poplar St., Westernport, died Friday, May 25, 2001, at Lions Manor Nursing Home, Cumberland.
Born on Dec. 2, 1925, in Franklin, he was the son of the late Charles and Stella (Turner) Gentry.
Mr. Gentry was a United States Navy veteran, having served during World War II. He retired from the Allegany County Board of Education, having worked in maintenance. He also was a former employee of the Celanese Fibers Corp. Mr. Gentry was a member of Victory Post #155 American Legion, and was Protestant by faith.
Surviving are two sons, David L. Gentry Jr. and wife Jeannie, and Jimmy Gentry and wife Phyllis, all of Westernport; two daughters, Janice Ann Gentry of Winchester, Va., and Barbara Jean Hartung and husband George of Reedsville, Pa.; one sister, Ruth Timney of Moscow; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
There will be no visitation.
Private family funeral services will be held.
Interment will be in Philos Cemetery, Westernport.
The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to Tri-Towns Rescue Squad, Westernport.
