SHERIDAN THOMAS "TOM" DEAN
LAVALE -- Sheridan Thomas "Tom" Dean, 53, died Friday, May 18, 2001, at Memorial Hospital after an illness of many years.
Born May 12, 1948, in Harrisonburg, Va., he was the eldest son of the late Hollie Thomas and Eunice Jean (Reedy) Dean.
Mr. Dean graduated as valedictorian from Williamsport High School in Williamsport, class of 1966. He was a magna cum laude graduate of Mount Saint Mary's College and held a Master's degree from the University of Virginia's School of Education. Having been a counselor in the Clarke County Virginia school system, he subsequently served 19 years with the Maryland Division of Rehabilitation Services. He was a Past Master of Fort Cumberland Lodge 211, A.F and A.M., and a member of the Cumberland Scottish Rite. He was a devoted naturalist and held an abiding love of trees, especially the Acacia.
Surviving are his wife of 19 years, Pamela (Easter) Dean; one sister, Deborah Rude, Falling Waters, W.Va.; two brothers, Cameron Dean and wife Cindy, and James Dean, Hagerstown; one niece and four nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved basset Hounds, Pester and Betsy.
At Mr. Dean's request, his body has been donated to Medical Science.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., on Saturday, May 26, 2001, from 1 to 2 p.m.
The Masonic Lodge 211 will conduct their memorial service at the funeral home on Saturday at 2 p.m. Following the Masonic Service, a memorial service will be conducted by the Rev. Wayne R. Turner.
Donations can be made in his memory to the Allegany County League for Crippled Children, Inc., Willowbrook Road.
THEODORE CARL "TED" MARZEC
POINTS, W.Va. -- Theodore Carl "Ted" Marzec, 63, died Saturday, May 19, 2001, at Winchester Medical Center.
Born Oct. 7, 1937 in Coneamurgh, Pa., he was the son of the late Wojeiech Marzec and Anastasia Marzec.
Mr. Marzec was a retired carpenter and Wal-Mart Associate. He also served in the air force, and was Catholic by faith.
Surviving are his wife, Coleen "Cookie" Montgomery; one son, Donald Montgomery Jr. and wife Laurie of Points; two grandchildren, Tabatha and Manda Montgomey; a special niece, Dora Martin of Levels; a special nephew, Gregory Marzec of Glen Burnie, Md.; three sisters, Nancy Furmanchik of Jensen Beach, Fla., Verna Burton of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Theresa Zajdel of Brocton, Mass.; God Children, Christina Heavner, Roger Montgomery, Joanna Mitleidder, and Cody Marzec.
The family will receive friends on Sunday at 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the McKee Funeral Home, Augusta.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, May 21, 2001 at 2 p.m. in the Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Romney, with the Rev. Eugene J. Weber officiating.
Burial will be in Noland Cemetery, Levels.
JAMES WILLIAM "BILL" MURPHY JR.
OLDTOWN -- James William "Bill" Murphy Jr., 65, died Thursday, May 17, 2001, at the University of Arkansas Medical Center, Little Rock, Ark.
Born in Cumberland on Feb. 16, 1936, he was the son of he late James William and Helen F. (Powers) Murphy.
Mr. Murphy was the owner and operator of Murphy's Furniture on Centre Street. He was also a machinist for the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company in Cumberland and Mack Truck in Hagerstown.
Mr. Murphy was a 1954 graduate of Fort Hill High School. While in high school, he was an All Star Football Player. Named to the All Star City and State Teams, he was the State Tackle of the Year. Following his graduation from high school, Bill entered the Marine Corp where he became a Marine "Frogman". In his Marine Corp training program, Bill was second in his class. Bill was a member of the Cumberland Moose. Most of all, Bill enjoyed spending time at his home in Mount Storm, W.Va. He was a hunter and bird watcher. His favorite past time was spending time with his cat, "Bippy".
Surviving are his wife, companion, and best friend, Diana L. (Smith) Murphy; two daughters, Jamie L. Murphy and husband John Strong, Pittsburgh, Pa., and Wendy L. Murphy and Gregory Bancroft, Winchester, Va.; three granddaughters, Sarah E. Wine, a student at Fairmont State College, Emma E. Murphy Strong, and Hannah L. Murphy Strong of Pittsburgh, Pa.; two brothers, Ronald C. Murphy and wife Frances, N.C., and Gary L. Murphy, Cumberland; and one sister, Patricia A. Wright, Bedford, Pa.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Cook officiating.
Interment will be Sunset Memorial Park.
Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the members of the Combined Veterans Organizations.
In lieu of flowers, those who desire to honor Bill may make contributions to their favorite charity.
PRICILLA AMELIA JUNKINS
MOUNT STORM, W.Va. -- Pricilla Amelia Junkins, 85, died Friday, May 18, 2001, in the Cuppett-Weeks Nursing Home in Oakland.
Born May 25, 1915, in Mount Storm, she was a daughter of the late Milford and Bly (Idleman) Kuhn. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clarence G. Junkins, four brothers, and one sister.
Surviving are two sons, Milford Junkins and James L. Junkins, both of Mount Storm; a daughter, Dorene Kitzmiller of Mount Storm; two brothers, Dwight Kuhn of Petersburg; one sister, Shirley Anthony of Mount Storm; ten grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
At Mrs. Junkins request, her body was cremated.
Memorial services will be held on Monday at 1 p.m. in the David A. Burdock Funeral Home with the Rev. William Anderson officiating.
Interment will be in the Mount Storm Cemetery.
MARY ELIZABETH FOLK
CUMBERLAND -- Mary Elizabeth Folk, 90, of Cumberland, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 16, 1910 in Eckhart, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Mary (Rephann) Wolford. She was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Folk, and by six brothers and four sisters.
Mrs. Folk was a home maker. She was a member of the Liberty Christian Fellowship, where she had been a Sunday School teacher. She was a prayer counselor for Magnify the Lord, T.V. Ministry.
Surviving are two sisters, Virginia Yost, Eckhart, and Helen Airhart, Baltimore; a friend, Virginia Mongold, Wiley Ford, W.Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation.
Memorial services will be conducted at the Liberty Christian Fellowship, Cresaptown, on Sunday, May 20, 2001 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Gary L. Gordon officiating.
Interment will be private.
