JAMES L. HUMBERTSON
CUMBERLAND -- James L. Humbertson, 67, of Cumberland, died Thursday, May 17, 2001, at Memorial Hospital.
Born May 16, 1934 in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Mary Hamilton Humbertson.
Mr. Humbertson had served in the Maryland National Guard. He was a retired carpenter, having worked through Carpenter's Local 1024, Cumberland. He was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church. Mr. Humbertson was also a member of Potomac Lodge 100, A.F. and A.M., 32nd degree Cumberland Scottish Rite Bodies, Ali Ghan Shrine, where he was a member of the Motor Corps Unit, and a life member of the Cumberland Outdoor Club.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret (Appel) Humbertson; one son, Jim Humbertson, Morgantown, W.Va.; two daughters, Stacey Roderick and husband Garett, Cumberland, and Cindy Ratke and husband George, Cumberland; four grandchildren, Justin Ratke, and wife Amy, Jamie Ratke, Alyssa Helmstetter and Shawn Helmstetter; and a dear friend, Gordon Miller.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Potomac Lodge 100, A.F. and A.M. will conduct a memorial service at the funeral home on Saturday at 7:15 p.m.
The funeral service will be conducted from St. Johns Lutheran Church on Sunday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Mark Dill officiating.
Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
Serving as pallbearers will be members of the Ali Ghan Motor Corps Unit, Ray Long, DonMaloof, Jim Nave, Ed Nave, G. Clifton Loar, Bob Alkire, Dick Walls, and Ben Houdersheldt.
The remaining Motor Corps members will serve as honorary pallbearers.

HOLLIE D. ARTHUR
KEYSER, W.Va. -- Hollie D. Arthur, 86, of Healy Heights, Keyser, died Thursday, May 17, 2001, at home.
Born in Erwin, on Nov. 14, 1914, he was the son of the late Russell Samuel and Nancy Jane (Shaffer) Arthur. Three sisters, Lucille Coop, Inez Clark, Freda Steininger; one grandson, Hollie David Arthur; and one granddaughter, Stacey Renee Arthur also preceded him in death.
Mr. Arthur was a retired heavy equipment operator, and was a 50 year member of O.E.B.F. Local 37.
Surviving are his wife, Wanda E. (Lancaster) Arthur; four sisters, Reba McDowell and husband George of Gallatin, Tenn., Radie Arthur of Cumberland, Md., Clara E. Dye of Barton, and Juanita Wilson and husband Melvin of Westernport; one brother, Carl Arthur and wife Edna of Westernport; two daughters, Reba Jean Deremer and husband Joe of Barton, and Patricia Droppleman and husband James of Keyser; two sons, John D. Arthur and wife Sylvia of High Spring, Fla., and Hollie "Sam" Arthur and wife Jackie of Burlington; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday at 11 a.m. with Kenneth Mason, officiating.
Interment will be in Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.

BETTY JEAN "JEANNIE" SWEITZER
FROSTBURG -- Betty Jean "Jeannie" Sweitzer, 75, of Frostburg, died Friday, May 18, 2001, at the Frostburg Village Nursing Home.
Born Jan. 5, 1926 in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Nellie (Ort) Love. She also was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence Herman "Cheese" Sweitzer.
Mrs. Sweitzer was retired from Frostburg State University in 1988.
Surviving are one son, Larry Sweitzer and wife Mansueta, Daleville, Va.; three grandchildren, Cynthia Yoder and husband Dean, Marietta, Ga., Karen Sweitzer, Smyrna, Ga., and Larry Joe Sweitzer and wife Michelle, Roanoke, Va.; four great-grandchildren, Brady Yoder, Madeline Yoder, Brittany Sweitzer, and Samantha Sweitzer.
There will be no visitation.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 W. Main St., Frostburg on Sunday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. T. Williams Preston officiating.
Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.
GARY BLAKE
SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Gary Blake, 57, died Feb. 17, 2001, at home under the care of Hospice Savannah.
He was born in Cumberland, Md., and was a resident of Savannah for the last 13 years. He was the son of the late Richard L. Blake and Rose Ann (Dougherty) Blake.
In his early education, he attended St. Mary's School. He graduated from LaSalle High School in 1961 and was valedictorian of his class.
Mr. Blake held the position of Jail Administrator at the Chatham County Sheriff's Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. His career in law enforcement included: Director of the Detention Center of Montgomery County Department of Correction and Rehabilitation, Community Corrections Task Force Assistant Director of the State of Maryland Department of Corrections, Work Release Supervisor and Correctional Treatment Coordinator of Montgomery County Detention Center, Teacher-Academic Instructor of the State of Maryland Department of Corrections, Adjunct Faculty of Montgomery College, Rockville, Maryland Campus, Advisory Board of Criminal Justice at Montgomery College, Technical Assistant to county jails through the National Institute of Corrections, Consultant for the American Correctional Association, numerous advisory and steering committee positions, auditor for Commission on Accreditation for Corrections, and expert witness in correctional litigation.
Professional positions and associations include: Member of the American Correctional Association, President and Secretary/Treasurer of the Maryland Correctional Administrators Association, President and Area Delegate of the Maryland Parole Probation and Correction Association, Member Advisory Committee, Maryland Project to Improve Health Care in Jails, Vice-Chairman and Commission member of the Maryland State Training Commission, State Board Members of Offender Aide and Restoration, member of Urban Consortium for National Institute Host Program Criminal Justice Task Force member, Vice-president, National Jail Association, Treasurer and Executive Committee Member of the Commission on Accreditation for Corrections, Chairman of State and Local Policy Board in Maryland, member of Correctional Standards Committee for American Correctional Association, including experience with policy development ability, jail population management, budget, staff management, government, management of facility construction, remodeling and maintenance, oral and written presentation of legal issues management. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Knights of Columbus and held a Master of Science degree from Shippensburg State College in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Science Degree from Frostburg State College in Maryland.
Gary is survived by his wife, Kathy Blake of Savannah; his stepson, John Patrick McMahon III of Savannah; his stepdaughter, Jeanne McMahon of Savannah; an aunt, Mary Margaret Dougherty of Cumberland; a niece, Alexis Blake of Baltimore, Md.; a cousin, Joanne Vaughan of Dallas, Texas; and many friends and associates.
The Funeral Mass was held on Feb. 21 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, followed by a reception in the gymnasium at the church.
A Memorial Mass will be held May 19 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cumberland.
THOMAS "TOD" DUNCANSON
CUMBERLAND -- Thomas "Tod" Duncanson, 79, formerly of Cumberland, died Monday, May 14, 2001, in a hospital in Palm City, Fla.
Mr. Duncanson is survived by his wife and three children.
Services will be held Saturday, May 19, at 2 p.m. in the Palm City Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Palm City Presbyterian Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 517, Palm City, FL 34991.
NEVA N. LUPTON
WESTERNPORT -- Neva N. Lupton, 86, of 115 Church St., Westernport, died Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at Heartland of Keyser Nursing Home, Keyser, W.Va., where she had been a resident.
Born in Westernport on Dec. 7, 1914, she was the daughter of the late James and Maggie (Mayhew) Footen.
Mrs. Lupton was a retired bookkeeper, having worked for Kenny's Market in Westernport. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Westernport, and a member of Victory Unit #155 Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving are a daughter, Judy Dayton of Westernport; a son, Bob Lupton and wife Anita of Westernport; four grandchildren, Kim White, Keyser, Kellie Braithwaite, Westernport, Carrie Dayton, Westernport, and Jason Lupton, Kansas City; and six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Dallas Shaffer officiating.
Interment will be in Philos Cemetery, Westernport.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Heartland of Keyser Nursing Home activity fund.
