EVELYN G. PORTER
CUMBERLAND -- Evelyn Gladys Porter, 93, a resident of St. Vincent de Paul Nursing Home, Frostburg, for the past 4 1/2 years, formerly of Stewart Avenue and Fayette Street, Cumberland, died Sunday, May 13, 2001, at the nursing home.
Born June 20, 1907, in Cresaptown, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary Lula B. (Winters) Winterberg. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Norbert B. O'Donnell; her second husband, Frederick W. Porter; and one daughter, Patricia R. Jacobs and her husband Albert. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Porter was a graduate of Allegany High School and Catherman's Business School. She was a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church. She was a member of Women's Civic Club and the Sacred Heart Auxiliary, where she had 4,800 volunteer hours in the gift shop. She was a frequent blood donor at the American Red Cross, where she was a member of the Gallon Club. She had a real estate license and assisted her husband in the real estate and insurance business with the firm of O'Donnell Real Estate and Insurance.
Surviving are two daughters, Lois J. McMullen and husband Hugh, Cumberland, and Carol L. Nagel, Virginia Beach; one step daughter, Carol Miller and husband Gregory, Baltimore; seven grandchildren, Susan Jacobs Brewer and husband Regan, Issaquah, Wash, Betsy A. Sherrier and husband Stephen, Johnstown, Pa., Jack McMullen, Cumberland, Hugh A.McMullen and wife Carol, Silver Spring, Daniel F.McMullen, Baltimore County, Jamie Dickerhoff and husband John, Fayetteville, N.C., Kimberly Wilson and husband Gregory, Centerville; nine great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Friends were received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave. on Tuesday from 3 to 6 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated as SS Peter Paul Catholic Church on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. with Fr. William Moody as celebrant.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-laws. Honorary pallbearers will be Thomas Wigger, John McMullen Jr., Butch Ibanez, John F. Workmeister, and Lynn H. Workmeister.

LILLIAN K. RUSSELL
LONACONING -- Lillian K. Russell, 76, formerly of Lonaconing, died on Tuesday, May 15, 2001.
Born on June 28, 1924, in Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Mary Murphy Kiser. She was the wife of the late Hart Harlan Kemphfer, who died in 1953, and the late Robert Russell, who died in 1977.
She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Herb Ziegler of Sykesville; sisters, Betty Friend of Hagerstown, and Marian Rodeheaver of Grantsville; and two grandsons.
She was also preceded in death by siblings, Lewis Kiser and Dorothy Liller.
A Memorial Service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday at the Haight Funeral Home and Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville.
Interment will be private.
TAYLOR A. DICKEN
CUMBERLAND -- Taylor A. Dicken, 80, of 14112 Valley Road, NE, Cumberland, died Sunday, May 13, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born on Sept. 3, 1920, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Harry M. Dicken and Susan Pearl (Cessna) Dicken. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Onalee Watson; and two brothers, Homer and Luther Dicken.
Mr. Dicken was retired from the Potomac Edison at Celanese Fibers Corporation of America as a turbin operator. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served with the combat engineers of the 29th Division and received the Bronze Star for meritorious achievement during the D-Day Invasion. He was a member of Henry Hart Post #1411 Veterans of Foreign Wars and Trinity United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor K. (Couter) Dicken, Cumberland; two daughters, Nancy Lee Theriault and husband Robert, East Amherst, N.Y., Leslie Ann Stevens and husband Michael, Cumberland; a sister, Hazel Brobst and husband John, Denver, Pa.; five grandchildren, Christopher Stevens, Daniel Stevens, Katherine Stevens, Zachary Theriault and Spencer Theriault; a number of nieces; and a nephew.
Friends will be received at Trinity United Methodist Church, Grand Avenue, Cumberland, on Saturday from 2 until 4 p.m.
A Memorial Service will be conducted at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Glenn Capacchione officiating.
The family requests that memorials be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
JO ANN MCBRIDE
CUMBERLAND -- Jo Ann McBride, 59, of 15820 Brice Hollow Road, SE, Cumberland, died Friday, May 4, 2001, at Memorial Hospital.
Born on June 8, 1941, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of Sarah Elizabeth (Beeler) Hebb, Cumberland, and the late Dorsey Grant Hebb. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Donald E. Hebb, due to an auto accident in 1968.
She is survived by her husband, Charles L. McBride Sr., Land O Lakes, Fla.; a son, Charles L. McBride Jr. and special friend, Lorie Hamilton; and her two sons, Roy and Josh Hamilton, Cumberland; a brother, Dorsey J. Hebb and wife Vickie, Cumberland; two sisters, Carolyn Straw and husband William, Cumberland, and Willie Clayton and husband Don, Ocala, Fla.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Friday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
A Memorial Service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Otis Beeler officiating.
WILBERT GRANT "WID" MILLER
CUMBERLAND -- Wilbert Grant "Wid" Miller, 81, of Cumberland, died Monday, May 14, 2001, at Memorial Hospital..
Born Dec. 20, 1919 in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Elias and Bessie Pearl (Mann) Miller. Mr. Miller was also preceded in death by one brother, Ernest L. Miller and wife Mary and one sister, Pauline.
Mr. Miller worked at the Celanese Fibers for over 20 years and retired from the Hiser Supply Company in 1984. He was a life member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, having served with Company G, 115th infantry, 29th Division, serving overseas from 1942 to 1945. Mr. Miller was an active bowler with the Senior Citizens League and Industrial league of White Oaks Lane. Mr. Miller was one of the first members of the Church League and Country League at the Bowler.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Betty June (Norris) Miller; one son, W. Gary Miller and wife Sharyn (Light) Miller; one grandson, Douglas G. Miller and wife Jody (Benson) Miller; one granddaughter, Rachel E. Miller; one great-grandson, Kaleb S. Miller; one nephew, Lloyd R. Norris, Fort Lauderdale, Fl.; two nieces, Charlsie E. Wroten, N.C., and Donna R. Nesbitt and husband Herb, Churchton; and several other nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave. on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 12 p.m. with the Pastor Glenn A. Capacchione officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.

MURIAL J. "PERK" WINTERS
SHAFT -- Murial J. "Perk" Winters, 84, of Shaft died Sunday, May 13, 2001 at Frostburg Village Nursing Home.
Born Sept. 19, 1916 in Klondike, she was the daughter of the late James and Christina (Patterson) Allen. She was also preceded in death by her husband, George "Bazz" Winters; five brothers, Tom Allen, James Allen, Malcolm Allen, Jackson Allen, and Kenneth Allen; and one sister, Margaret Nolan.
She was retired as a cook at Duncan's Cafe. She attended Trinity Assembly of God Church.
Surviving are one son, Aaron Winters and wife Rosie, Shaft; one daughter, Judy Ballases and husband Charles, Midlothian; eight grandchildren, Richard Winters and wife Mary Ann, Diane Winters, Barry Winters and wife Lois, Bob Johnson and wife Lisa, Lou Ann Ross, Daron Winters and wife Stacey, Beth Ballases, and Amber Ballases; eleven great-grandchildren, Tyler Johnson, Rebecca Winters, Joey Baltes, Alicia Baltes, Danielle Johnson, Andrew Baltes, Emily Baltes, Aaron Winters, Jacob Winters, Hannah Winters, and Lacy Winters; one brother, Harbert Allen, Shaft, and two sisters, Franciene Yates, Carlos, and LaVanna McKenzie, a resident of St. Vincent de Paul Nursing Home.
Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 W. Main St., Frostburg on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. T. William Preston officiating.
Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.
