HELEN E. KENNEY
FROSTBURG -- Helen Esther (Lewis) Kenney, 78, of 31 Linden St., Frostburg, died on Friday 11th of May 2001, after a battle with cancer at Sacred Heart Special Care Unit (Hospice). She was the daughter of the late Charles and Catherine (Rooney) Lewis of Eckhart Mines. Her husband, Stephen J. Kenney Sr. and her brothers, Charles and Joseph Lewis predeceased her.
She is survived by her brother, Francis X. Lewis (Frostburg); and her children, Stephen J. Kenney Jr., (Alexandria, Va.), Rev. Charles Douglas Kenney (St. Margaret's Church) Bel Air, Craig Kenney and wife Patricia (Peretti), Frostburg, Kathy (Kenney) Alvarado and husband Rafael (New Orleans, La.) Helen Kenney-Cornell and husband Mike (Fredericksburg, Va.) Mark Kenney of Frostburg; four grandchildren, Adam and Adrianna Kenney and Nolan and Gavin Cornell; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Helen was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and the Sodality of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
She was an avid gardener and proud member of the Frostburg Garden Club, where she devoted her time helping to maintain the baskets on Frostburg's Main Street. She also was active with her Beall High School Class of 1940 and attended most of their dinners and reunion functions as well as senior citizen (Bowling League).
Early in her life, Helen worked at various Candy Stores in Frostburg and at the Celeanese Corp. She also assisted her husband, Stephen with the running of the Kenney's Grocery Store on Water Street.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to the Frostburg Garden Club, c/o Ruth Anne Stewart, 172 Washington St., Frostburg, MD 21532, to be used towards obtaining more lamppost flower baskets for the town of Frostburg or St. Michael's School, c/o 44 Main St., Frostburg, MD 21532.
Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 W. Main St., Frostburg, on Monday 14 May from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 3:45 p.m.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael's Church, 56 E. Main St., Frostburg, at 1 p.m. on Tuesday 15 May 2001 by her son the Rev. Charles Douglas Kenney.
Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery.
GEORGE L. PORTER
OAKLAND -- George Louis Porter, 86, of Oakland, died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at Cuppett and Weeks Nursing Home, Oakland.
Born on May 2, 1915, in Oakland, he was a son of the late Harry L. Porter Sr. and Georgianna (Littman) Porter.
Mr. Porter was a retired mail carrier in Oakland and later a rural carrier in Garrett County. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army after serving in the 71st Infantry Division in World War II. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and also a life member of the VFW, the American Legion and the National Rifle Association.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth (Casteel) Porter; one daughter, Sue Porter Schwarz, Mentone, Ala.; one son, George E. Porter, Oakland; one sister, Susanna Porter Santelmann, Stillwater, Okla.; two granddaughters; and two great-granddaughters.
At Mr. Porter's request, his body has been donated for medical research.
A memorial service will be conducted at a later date.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Central American Medical Association, c/o Dr. Dona Alvarez, 311 N. Fourth St., Oakland, MD, or Hospice of Garrett County, P.O. Box 271, Oakland, MD.

MARY E. BROWN
OAKLAND -- Mary E. Brown, 68, of W. Liberty St., Oakland, died Friday, May 11, 2001, at the Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Born on June 16, 1932, in Oakland, she was the daughter of the late Carl P. and Emma L. (Saucer) Jamison.
She was a member of the Crellin Assembly of God Church and worked at the Garrett County Memorial Hospital for over 20 years.
She is survived by one son, Donald W. DeBerry, Kirtland, N.M.; two sisters, Betty Jo Grimm, Youngstown, Ohio, and Myrtle Teter, Cleveland, Ohio; three brothers, Elwood Jamison, Oakland, Perry Jamison, McCoole, and Roger Jamison, Cleveland; and one grandson, Dalton G. DeBerry.
Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, May 14, 2001, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Bruce Craig officiating.
Interment will be in the Oakland Cemetery.
K. ALBERT WOLFE
CUMBERLAND -- K. Albert Wolfe, 94, of Cumberland, died May 5, 2001, at his son's residence in Chevy Chase.
Born on March 6, 1907, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Kinsey Audrey Wolfe and Jenny (Dixon) Wolfe. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Bernadette R. (Flanagan) Wolfe on Dec. 28, 1981.
Mr. Wolfe was a 1928 graduate of Allegany High School, where he served as class president. He attended William and Mary College. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Mr. Wolfe was retired from the B&O Railroad, where he was a pipefitter. He was a member of Centre Street United Methodist Church, Ft. Cumberland Lodge #211 A.F. & A.M., 32nd degree, Cumberland Scottish Rite Bodies, Ali Ghan Shrine, Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Department, Cumberland Outdoor Club Aerie #245, F.O.E., Lodge #271, L.O.O.M., Ft. Cumberland Post #13, American Legion, and a member and past Commander of Knobley Mt. Post #136, American Legion.
Survivors include his son, Ted. A. Wolfe, with whom he had resided in Chevy Chase, and a niece, Sally McGreevy, Tucson, Ariz.
A private graveside service was held at St. Patrick's Cemetery.
The Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., Cumberland, was in charge of the arrangements.
