LAKE M. HENDERSON
CAPON BRIDGE, W.Va. -- Lake Miller Henderson, 85, of Capon Bridge, died on Friday, May 11, 2001, at the Rose Hill Nursing Home in Berryville, Va.
Mrs. Henderson was born on April 10, 1916, in North River Mills, a daughter of the late Charles L. and Wilma McDonald Miller. She was a school teacher in Hampshire County for 46 years and retired after teaching for 35 years at Capon Bridge Elementary as a first grade teacher. She was a graduate of Capon Bridge High in 1934. She graduated from Shepherd College. The 1972 edition of "Outstanding Elementary Teachers of America" listed Lake Henderson. She was Hampshire County's Teacher of the Year in 1980 and among twelve finalists for West Virginia's Teacher of the Year. She was chosen Knight of Old Hampshire in 1981. She was also a former president of the Delta Kappa Gamma Honor Society. She was a lifetime member of North River Mills United Methodist Church. She was also a member of Capon Bridge Methodist Women, a Sunday School teacher, a member of the Board for the Hampshire County Committee on Aging, Friends of the Library, the Hampshire County Democratic Executive Committee, American Legion Auxiliary, Capon Bridge Senior Center and the Capon Bridge Town Council.
She was married
to W. Harold Henderson. Mr. Henderson died on Dec. 29, 1977.
Surviving are one sister-in-law, Peggy Miller of North River Mills; and a number of nieces and nephews. She is also preceded in death by two brothers, Bruce and Sloan Miller.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at 1 p.m. at the Salem United Methodist Church in Slanesville. Officiating will be the Rev. Patrick Kerr. Interment will be at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Monday, May 14, 2001, at the Giffin Funeral Home in Capon Bridge, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

STEVEN C. MOORE
KEYSER, W.Va. -- Steven Charles Moore, 39, of 1550 Ludwick St., Keyser, died Friday, May 11, 2001, at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser.
Born on July 17, 1961, in Keyser, he was a son of Charles M. and Nancy J. (Hood) Moore of Keyser. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Charles and Mary Hood of Piedmont.
Mr. Moore was currently employed as a home supervisor with Res-Care in Keyser. He also was formerly employed at the Sheetz Convenience Store in Keyser for 10 years. He was a 1979 graduate of Keyser High School and attended Potomac State College, West Virginia University and Frostburg State College. He was also a member of Keyser Church of the Brethren and the Keyser Volunteer Fire Department, where he was actively involved in the fire prevention program. He was also a member of the Potomac Valley Chapter, Order of DeMolay, Keyser, and the Potomac Valley Junior Rifle Team.
Steve was very active with the local youth athletic programs, having coached church league basketball, Special Olympics, seventh and eighth grade girls basketball at Keyser Primary Middle School, Keyser High School junior varsity girls basketball, as well as the varsity girls basketball at the former Elk Garden High School.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife of five years, Melissa M. (Staggs) Moore; one brother, Glenn R. "Frog" Moore and wife Becky, Tonawanda, N.Y.; paternal grandmother, Helen M. Moore, Keyser; a special niece and nephew, Abby and Adam Moore, Tonawanda; and father and mother-in-law, Robert and Becky Staggs, Keyser.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Dwight Ramsey officiating.
Interment will be in Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
The Keyser Volunteer Fire Department will conduct a memorial service at the funeral home on Monday at 7 p.m.
NAOMI MCGREGOR
CUMBERLAND -- Naomi McGregor, 88, of the Willow Valley Apartments, Cumberland, formerly of Frostburg, died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born on Oct. 28, 1912, in Midlothian, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Emma (Meager) Duncan. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, William McGregor; and a son, Larry McGregor.
Mrs. McGregor was a homemaker. She was formerly employed at the Celanese Fibers Corp., and assisted in the family business. She was a member of the Eckhart Baptist Church and formerly a Sunday School teacher and superintendent at the Frostburg United Methodist Church.
Surviving are one son, W.J. "Joe" McGregor; a daughter-in-law, Judy (Fike) McGregor, Great Falls, Va.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, William Duncan, Shaft; two sisters, Mildred Landefeld, Shaft, and Helen Ruffo, Eckhart; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Gerald L. Evens officiating.
Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.
HARRY M. NEILSON
CUMBERLAND -- Harry Marshall Neilson, 74, of Cumberland, died Friday, May 11, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born on Oct. 30, 1926, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late James G. and Ruth (Bean) Neilson. He was also preceded in death by two stepsons, Davy and Randall Neat.
Mr. Neilson worked for his father at Neilson Bros. Supply Company in Frostburg, and retired in 1981. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving aboard the USS Wasatch and the USS Enterprise. He was a boxer in the early years of his Navy service. Harry had 20 years of sobriety with A.A.
Surviving are his wife, Stella (Monnett) Bauman-Neilson; one daughter, Kathy Schultz, Cooper City, Fla.; one son, Harry Neilson Sr. and wife Billie Jean (Snyder) Neilson, Short Gap; one sister, Lois Ann "Peggy" (Neilson) Kesner and husband Jack, Mt. Airy; one brother, James G. Neilson, Cumberland; two grandchildren, Harry Neilson Jr. and Tina Marie Propst, both of Short Gap; two special adopted grandchildren, Michael Ryan and Kourtney Browning; five stepchildren, Debbie Bauman Smith and husband Randy, Baltimore, Steve Bauman and wife Donna (Moore-Fetters), Hagerstown, Mike Bauman and wife Michelle (Feathers-Nave), Claysburg, Pa., Jeff Bauman, Bedford, Pa., Kimberly (Bauman) Morlen and husband Danny Morlen II, Wiley Ford; 10 step-grandchildren; and 11 step-great-grandchildren.
There will be no visitation. At Mr. Neilson's request, he will be cremated at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., Crematorium.
A Memorial Service will be held Monday at 7 p.m. at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity or the donor's choice.
JOYCELYN M. SHERMAN
AURORA, Ill. -- Joycelyn M. "Joy" Sherman of 748 Bangs St., lost her long battle with cancer at her residence and went to be with the Lord on May 10, 2001.
Born in Cumberland, on May 7, 1943, she was the daughter of the late James W. Boyland Sr. and Lillian M. (Everett) Boyland.
She was a 1961 graduate of Fort Ashby High School and Cathermans Business School. She was employed by DuKane Corp. of Illinois, for 20 years.
She is survived by three daughters, Tina Young and significant other, Mark Krantz of Aurora, Ill., April Sherman-Middleton and husband Bob, and Alison Swanson and husband Jeremy of Montgomery, Ill; seven grandchildren, Henry and Blake Sherman, Eric and Jared Middleton, Alan and Austin Swanson and Skyler Krantz; her sister, Jeanne K. Amick and husband Chet, Cumberland, Md.; two brothers, James Boyland Jr., Martinsburg, W.Va., and John K. Boyland, Los Angeles; and two nieces, Sharon A. Amick and Shelly M. Amick of Cumberland.
At her request, she will be cremated.
DONALD A. DEMOSS
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -- Donald Alvin "Buck" DeMoss, 70, of Johnson City, died Sunday, May 6, 2001, at the Johnson City Medical Center.
Born on Nov. 21, 1930, in Cumberland, Md., he was the son of Lena Dickerhoof, Cumberland, and Shelton DeMoss, Connecticut. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Carl Dickerhoff.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Virginia DeMoss, Johnson City; three daughters, Dawn E. Phillips, McHenry, Md., Debra A. Knotts, Tallahassee, Fla., and Valerie V. Fowler, Lake City, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Virginia Richardson, Johnson City, and Sandy Stewart, Emmit, Wash.; one son, Michael H. DeMoss, McAlpin, Fla.; one stepson, Billy Miller, Seneca, S.C.; one stepsister, Jane Mason, Cumberland; and one stepbrother, Richard Dickerhoff, Cumberland. He is also survived by his first wife, Mary Faye DeMoss, Fla.
At Mr. DeMoss's request, his body was cremated and a memorial service was held in Johnson City on May 9, 2001.
Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland.
