GEORGE E. WILT
OAKLAND -- George E. Wilt, 66, of Smouse Road, Oakland, died Sunday, May 6, 2001, at his home.
Born on Feb. 25, 1935, in Swanton, he was the son of the late Howard R. and E. Catherine (Fitzwater) Wilt.
He was a retired farmer.
He is survived by his wife, Alice L. Wilt; one daughter, Sherri D. Evans, Oakland; one sister, Viola I. Knox, Mountain Lake Park; two brothers, Randall M. Wilt, Lakeside, Ohio, and H. Wayne Wilt, Oakland; one grandson; and a much loved special friend, whom he raised, Robert Ash, Oakland, and his sons, Joshua and Jeremy.
Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, May 10, 2001, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Gail Hixon and the Rev. Ivan Ackerman officiating.
Interment will be in the Oakland Cemetery.

LORETTA P. KLINE
OLDTOWN -- Loretta Pearl (Cartwright) Kline, 87, of Oldtown, went to be with her Lord, whom she loved and served for many years, on Sunday, May 6, 2001, at the Cumberland Nursing Center.
Born on Dec. 30, 1913, in Oldtown, she was the daughter of the late Levi and Lula Cartwright. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Helen Cartwright, Hazel Cartwright and Catherine Reed; and five brothers, Charles Cartwright, James Cartwright, Edward Cartwright, Millard Cartwright and Willard Cartwright.
Mrs. Kline was a retired cook from Oldtown School. She was a secretary/bookkeeper for the Oldtown/Paw Paw Orchard and cook at the Boy Scout Camp, Oldtown. Loretta was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend that will be missed greatly. She was a member of the Bethel Assembly of God Church, Oldtown, for 50 years. She had been very active in the church as a Women's Leader, Missionettes Leader, Sunday School teacher and Vacation Bible School.
Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Gilbert R. Kline; one daughter, Carolyn V. Wilson, Romney, W.Va.; three grandchildren, Teresa L. Wilson, Vicki and Vance and children, Vanessa and Ryan, and Heather Lightfoot; two special people, great-niece, Norma Jean Cowgill, and great-nephew, Larry Wayne Cowgill; one sister, Carrie Taylor, Delaware; four sisters-in-law, Joyce Cartwright, Oldtown, Goldie Cartwright, Oldtown, Margaret Cartwright, Covington, Va., and Sadie Harding, Inwood, W.Va.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at Bethel Assembly of God Church, Oldtown, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the church on Thursday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Fred Parker, the Rev. Robert Collette and the Rev. James Stemple officiating. There will be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment will be in Davis Memorial Cemetery, Cumberland.
Pallbearers will be Charles Cartwright, Vernon Galliher, Roger Bishop, Thomas Brown, Rusty Jones, Floyd Stafford, William McMillian, Steve Joiner, Bernard Stansberry and Jim Vance.
The Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, is in charge of the arrangements.
JEFFREY A. SHINGLER
WESTERNPORT -- Jeffrey A. Shingler, 34, of 21116 Creekside Drive, Westernport, died Saturday May 5, 2001 at his residence.
Born in Hagerstown on Aug. 1, 1966, he was the son of Katherine (Greco) Shingler of Westernport and the late John Calvin Shingler.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a half brother, Donnie Shingler, Frostburg; a half sister, Pearl Gebens, Baltimore and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Lester Clifford officiating.
Interment will be in Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser, W.Va.
ERMA LEE GETZ
HYNDMAN, Pa. -- Erma Lee Getz, 67, of Hyndman Road, Hyndman, went to be with the lord on Sunday, May 6, 2001.
Born on Nov. 17, 1933, in Wellersburg, she was a daughter of Marie S. (Wagner) Sturtz, Berlin and the late Calvin Sturtz.
Surviving are John P. Getz, her husband of 42 years; a son, John P., of Frederick, Md.; a daughter, Meta Jo Miller and husband William L. of Ellerslie; a sister, Linda Bridges and husband David, Corriganville; and two grandsons, Eric and Daniel Miller.
Mrs. Getz was last employed as a sales associate at the Bon Ton, LaVale. She was a member of Calvary Bible Church, Ellerslie.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, May 7, 2001, at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, 169 Clarence St., Hyndman.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 8, 2001 at 11a.m. with the Rev. Ken L. Korns officiating.
Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.
ROSALENE "ROSIE" GARDNER
LONACONING -- Rosalene "Rosie" Gardner, 59, of 17302 Hummingbird Hill Lane S.W., Lonaconing, died Saturday, May 5, 2001 at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born in Lonaconing on Dec. 1, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Fred Hughes and Mae (Coleman) Hughes. She was also preceded in death by one brother Freddie Hughes.
Surviving are her husband William Edward Gardner, Lonaconing; one daughter, Tammy Shockey and husband Gary, Lonaconing; two sons William Ray Gardner and wife Heather, Lonaconing and Lonnie Gardner and wife Rhonda, Lonaconing; five grandchildren; two sisters, Elaine Hughes, Lonaconing and Pauline Gowans, Accident; three brothers, Rick Hughes, Lonaconing, Robert Hughes, Lonaconing and John Hughes, Frostburg.
Her body will be at Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing.
Friends will be received on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Richard Mortimore.
Interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills.
JOHN WILLIAM NEWCOMER
LAVALE -- John William Newcomer, 90, of LaVale, died Saturday, May 5, 2001 at Sacred Heart.
Born April 25, 1911 in Rockwood, Pa., he was the son of the late William Henry and Helen (Thomas) Newcomer.
He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Lillian Florence (Isherwood) Newcomer; a son, Robert Francis Newcomer.
Mr. Newcomer was self-employed from 1938 until his retirement in 1982, he owned and operated Newcomer's Jewelry Stores. His first store was located on Virginia Avenue, then moved to Baltimore Avenue and then the final location was in the Searstown Shopping Center.
Mr. Newcomer was a member of Highland Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Alta (Hanlin) Duling Newcomer; one son, Lindley Newcomer, Manassas, Va.; a step-daughter, Jane Walla, Leonardtown; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral service will be conducted from the Highland Baptist Church on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Jack Lancaster officiating.
Interment will be in Bayard Cemetery.
