MYRTLE K. DURBEN
OAKLAND -- Myrtle K. Durben, 91, of Hutton Road, Oakland, died Monday, April 30, 2001, at her home.
Born on Aug. 13, 1909, in Jennings, she was the daughter of the late Leroy and Minnie (Lee) White. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, George F. White and Harold E. White; and two grandchildren, Larisa Rae Durben and Colin Scott Durben.
She was a lifelong member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Oakland. A 1927 graduate of Oakland High School, she worked as a clerk for Englander's Pharmacy, Oakland, for 33 years.
She is survived by one son, Charles E. Durben and wife Ida T. (Moon), Oakland; three sisters, Nellie Swartzentruber and Maxine DeBerry, both of Oakland, and Helen Beckman, Swanton; one brother, Max L. White, Oakland; two grandchildren, Gene Durben and wife Debbie (Greer), with whom she made her home, Oakland, and Christopher L. Durben, Oakland; and three great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at St. Mark's Lutheran Church on Thursday, May 3, 2001, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Michael Robinson officiating.
Interment will be in Garrett County Memorial Gardens, Oakland.

SEAN M. DUKE
CAMP HILL, Pa. -- Sean Matthew Duke, infant son of John Edward and Laura Ann (King) Duke, died Sunday, April 29, 2001, at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill, immediately following his birth.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Vincent and Catherine King; and his paternal grandfather, John W. Duke.
In addition to his parents, surviving are two brothers, Christian Duke and Colby Duke; and his paternal grandmother, Shirley Jarvis, Tavares, Fla.
Sean will be buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, Cumberland, Md. A Memorial Service will be conducted at the Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Harrisburg, on Friday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Name of Jesus-Elizabeth Ministry, 6150 Allentown Blvd., Harrisburg, PA 17112.

ALICE I. MILLER
OAKLAND -- Alice Irene Miller, 80, of Oakland, died Sunday, April 29, 2001, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born on June 29, 1920, in Garrett County, she was the daughter of the late Truman Clifford DeWitt and Theodosia (Friend) DeWitt.
Surviving are her husband, Carson Miller; one son, Larry C. Miller, Laurel; one daughter, Ann E. Sweitzer, Swanton; and four grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Donald Matthews officiating.
Interment will be in Garrett County Memorial Gardens.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Hospice of Garrett County.
GRACE M. EVANS
KITZMILLER -- Grace M. Evans, 96, of Goldsboro, N.C., formerly of Kitzmiller, died Sunday, April 29, 2001, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Born in Kitzmiller, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Amanda (Glass) Mosser. Grace was also preceded in death by her husband, Henry Gilbert Evans.
Mrs. Evans is survived by a daughter, Wilma Evans Markley of Goldsboro; a son, Dale Henry Evans and wife Frances of Ft. Myers, Fla.; a brother, Charles Cecil Mosser and wife Eileen of Baltimore; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
"Amazing Grace" as her grandchildren call her, was still making the most delicious homemade bread at the young age of 96.
Friends will be received at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, Kitzmiller, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.
Interment will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Elk Garden, W.Va.
J. GALEN METZGER
LAVALE -- J. Galen Metzger, 78, of LaVale, died at his home on Monday, April 30, 2001.
Born on June 12, 1922, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late E.J. Wellington and Adrienne (Robinson) Metzger.
Mr. Metzger was a member of the LaVale United Methodist Church, where he had served on the Administrative Board, the Finance Committee and the Trustees. He was an avid gardener and belonged to the Upper Potomac Gardening Club, the Garden Club of Cumberland, and was a life member of the Allegany County Historical Society. Mr. Metzger graduated from Allegany High School in 1940 and served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was retired from Pittsburgh Plate Glass Co., where he was a supervisor in the Tank Department. He also owned and operated National Road Kennels.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Dorothy (Williams) Metzger; and three children, Ann Potter and husband Jerry of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., Brad Metzger and wife Barbara of LaVale, and Molly Edelen and husband Mac of LaVale. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Brian and Steven Potter, Kate and Daniel Metzger, and Lonnie and Jacob Edelen. Additional survivors include a cousin, Virginia (Metzger) Clark of Frostburg, and sister-in-law, The Sister Jane Teresa of All Saints Convent, Catonsville.
Friends may visit the family at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Hwy., LaVale, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the LaVale United Methodist Church on Thursday, May 3, 2001, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Bernadette Ross and the Rev. Lawrence Neumark officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to services.
Interment will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Baltimore Pike.
Memorials may be made in Galen's memory to the WMHS Hospice Home Care, 900 Seton Drive, Cumberland, MD 21502, or to the LaVale Rescue Squad, 977 National Hwy., LaVale, MD 21502.

STEVEN F. CRAWFORD
FROSTBURG -- Steven Franklin Crawford, 23, of 11300 Upper George's Creek Road, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 29, 2001, from his residence.
Born on May 26, 1977, in Cumberland, he was the son of Herbert F. and Betty (Thomas) Crawford of Frostburg.
Mr. Crawford was a correctional officer with the Maryland Correctional Training Center, Hagerstown. He was a member of the Gods Ark of Safety Church, Frostburg, the Midland Sportsman's Club and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Heather (Jacobs) Crawford; mother and father-in-law, Julie and Kenneth Jacobs; one brother, Herbert W. Crawford, all of Frostburg; two sisters, Deborah Likens, Cresaptown, and Stephanie Cessna, Bedford, Pa.; one niece; and four nephews.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. J. Richard Greene and the Rev. Everett J. Spence officiating.
Interment will be in the Frostburg Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Robert Jacobs, William Beeman, Ethan Cessna, Paul Anderson, Chris Vinci, Mike Likens and Chris Moore.
