DARVIN D. ROMESBURG
Darvin D. Romesburg, 64, Oakland, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 1999, at his home.
Born July 17, 1935, in Oakland, he was a son of the late Ralph M. Bowman Sr. and Grace M. (Bowman) Romesburg. He was also preceded in death by one son, Barry Romesburg, and one brother, Ralph M. Romesburg Jr.
He was an inspector for General Motors, Baltimore, for 31 years, and was a member of the Deer Park Sportsmen’s Club.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara R. (Bayer) Romesburg; one daughter, Cheryl Lynn Rinehart, Oakland; four sons, Dennis D. Romesburg and Richard E. Romesburg, both of Baltimore, Randall S. Romesburg, Eglon, W.Va., and George A. Romesburg, Oakland; three sisters, Betty Jean Reckart, Hazelton, W.Va., Mildred Skipper, Deer Park, and Barbara Ann Uphold, Oakland; one brother, Richard W. Romesburg, Oakland; 19 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, where a service was conducted Sunday, Sept. 26, with the Rev. Donald Matthews officiating. Cremation followed the service.
DONALD W. BAKER
Donald W. Baker, 58, Cleveland, Ohio, formerly of Oakland, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999, at the Lewis Stokes Veterans Hospital, Cleveland.
Born June 7, 1941, in Oakland, he was a son of the late Hansie Baker and Olive (Bailey) Baker Hartman.
He was a member of the Lakeside Assembly of God Church. A 1960 graduate of Southern High School, he was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include two sisters, Virginia Skipper-Cummings, Oakland, and Evelyn M. Nazelrod, Martinsburg, W.Va.; and one brother, Robert C. Baker, Oakland.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, where a service was conducted earlier today, Sept. 30, with the Rev. Robert Culler officiating. Interment was in the Deer Park Cemetery.
Military honors were accorded at the cemetery by members of the various veterans organizations in southern Garrett County.
EDNA M. FALSTICK
Edna M. Falstick, 76, Oakland, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999, at the Cuppett-Weeks Nursing Home, Oakland.
Born Nov. 20, 1922, in Deer Park, she was a daughter of the late Henry H. and Anna G. (Uphole) Hardesty. She was also preceded in death by one son, Charles Falstick, and by three brothers, Clarence Hardesty, George Hardesty, and Jack Hardesty.
She was a member of the Mtn. Lake Independent Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, James P. Falstick, Scranton, Kan.; two sisters, Nellie G. Hutton, Umatilla Fla., and J. Lottie Brenneman, Bittinger; five brothers, William H. Hardesty and Joe Hardesty, both of Kitzmiller, Noah D. Hardesty, Oakland, Paul S. Hardesty, Rockville, and Harold C. Hardesty, Pittsburgh; and two grandchildren.
Her body was donated to the Human Gift Registry, West Virginia University, Morgantown, W.Va., for medical research. A memorial service will be conducted at a later date.
The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to the Mtn. Lake Independent Baptist Church, 1005 Broadford Road, Mtn. Lake Park, MD 21550.

RICHARD B. WOLFE
Richard Burdette Wolfe, 92, Oakland, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 1999, at the Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home, Oakland.
Born Dec. 28, 1906, in Keyser, W.Va., he was a son of the late Cyrus S. and Tola A.D. (Hahn) Wolfe. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Earl and Verl Wolfe; one daughter, Della (Wolfe) Kerbs; two brothers, Kenneth and Franklin Wolfe; and three sisters, Virginia Wolfe, Evelyn Myers, and Pearl Kesler.
He was a member of the Oak Park Church of the Brethren.
Surviving are his wife, Viola (Kitzmiller) Wolfe; one daughter, Vonda Paugh, Oakland; one son, Clarence Wolfe, San Francisco, Calif.; five sisters, Thelma Wolfe, Oakland, Melvina Toms, Frederick, Lois Wolfe, Mtn. Lake Park, Mary Shaw, Columbus, Ohio, and Blanche Miller, Accident; three brothers, Paul Wolfe, Oakland, Neil Wolfe, Loch Lynn, and Orville Wolfe, Richmond, Va.; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland. A service was conducted at the Oak Park Church of the Brethren on Sunday, Sept. 26, with the Rev. Mel Menker officiating. Interment was in Garrett County Memorial Gardens.
JAMES H. SPEICHER SR.
James Hubert Speicher Sr., 54, McHenry, died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Aug. 3, 1945, in Grantsville, he was a son of Hubert Spiker, Grantsville, and the late Virginia (Durst) Spiker. He was also preceded in death by one son, David.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, and was a member of Grantsville Post 214, American Legion. He was also a member of the Casselman Valley Sportsmen’s Club, Grantsville. He had been employed in the maintenance department at Garrett Community College for 18 years.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Verna Elizabeth (Butler) Speicher; two sons, James Hubert Speicher Jr. and Jason Ray Speicher, both of McHenry; one daughter, Nellie Teresa Sue Speicher, McHenry; seven brothers, John David Durst, Frostburg, William H. Spicher, Joseph Spiker, Terry 'Butch' Spiker, and Robert Spiker, all of Grantsville, Raymond R. Spiker, Crellin, and Gary W. Spiker, Meyersdale, Pa.; one sister, Judy Uphold, Grantsville; and one granddaughter.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, McHenry, where a service was conducted at 1 p.m. today, Sept. 30, with the Rev. Ross Glotfelty officiating. Interment was in the Durst Cemetery, Grantsville.
ELIZABETH F. MITCHELL
Elizabeth F. Mitchell, 81, Oberlin, Ohio, formerly of McHenry, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999, at the New Life Hospice Residential Center, Lorain, Ohio.
Born Aug. 15, 1918, in McHenry, she was a daughter of the late Howard and Melissa (Rodeheaver) Matthews. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald J. Mitchell, in 1985, as well as six brothers and sisters.
Survivors include three daughters, JoAnn Ritenour and Donna Harsar, both of Oberlin, and Laurel Stashick, Berlin Heights, Ohio; one brother, Hobert Matthews, Camp Hill, Pa.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday. A service will be conducted in the chapel at Garrett County Memorial Gardens on Saturday, Oct. 2, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow.
JOHN W. LAWTON
John W. Lawton, 78, Annapolis, formerly of Oakland, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999, at his home.
He was born Oct. 20, 1920, in Oakland. He was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
He graduated from Curtiss Wright Technical Institute in Glendale, Calif., and was employed at Consolidated Aircraft in San Diego, Calif. During World War II he was a technical representative for Lockheed Aircraft with the Royal Air Force in Great Britain, and later served in the United States Navy. At the time of his retirement in 1985, he was vice president of Westinghouse International Operations.
Survivors include one son, Bruce D. Lawton, Arnold; four daughters, Carol L. Christhilf, Annapolis, Anne L. Gunn, Arnold, Susan A. Lawton, Odenton, and Nancy L. Chambers, Topsham, Maine; one sister, Virginia Lawton, Washington, D.C.; and eight grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be conducted at a later date.

ELMA J. ARBLASTER
Elma Jane (Meese) Arblaster, 59, Friendsville, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999, at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser, W.Va.
Born Oct. 8, 1939, in Canonsburg, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Blanche (Fike) Meese. She also resided with her uncle and aunt, Freda (Fike) and Charles Hand, for many years. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Hand; and two sons in infancy.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Arblaster, whom she married in June 1961; one son, Rodney Arblaster, North Carolina; one daughter, Shannon Arblaster, West Virginia; one sister, Ellen Karchella, McDonald, Pa.; and three grandsons.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Friendsville, where a service was conducted Wednesday, Sept. 29, with the Rev. Michael Robinson officiating. Interment was in the Steele Cemetery, Friendsville.
ELIZABETH SMITH
Elizabeth Rebecca Smith, 77, Cumberland, died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
A graveside service was conducted earlier today at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, with the Rev. Fr. Thomas R. Bevan officiating. Interment followed.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Center Street, Cumberland.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, LaVale.
CURTIS E. MARTIN
Curtis E. Martin, 86, Gormania, W.Va., died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born Aug. 4, 1913, in Kilgore, Neb., he was a son of the late Victor E. and Dessie M. (Kemphfer) Martin. He was also preceded in death by one son, Delmas Martin.
He was a member of the Calvary Temple, Mt. Storm, W.Va. A retired coal miner, he was a member of the UMWA, Thomas, W.Va. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Donna L. (Shaffer) Martin; two daughters, Donna Fridley, Mt. Storm, and Janet Bennett, Riverton, W.Va; two sons, C. Dwight Martin and Brian D. Martin, both of Bayard, W.Va.; one sister, Laura Mae Shaffer, Kingwood, W.Va.; one brother, Leo Martin, Tunnelton, W.Va.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today, Thursday. A service will be conducted at the Calvary Temple on Friday, Oct. 1, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Wesley Georg officiating. Interment will follow in the Bayard Cemetery. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service.

CAROLE A. EVANS
Carole Ann Evans, 57, Luke, died Thursday, Sept. 16, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Aug. 13, 1942, in Westernport, she was a daughter of the late Harold D. and Beatrice I. (Junkins) Parsons. She was also preceded in death by husbands Thomas E.; Bryan, in 1984, and Harold E. Evans, in 1998.
She was a homemaker and a member of Christ Memorial Baptist Church, Westernport.
Survivors include one son, Thomas Bryan III, Luke; two daughters, Patricia Kelly, Luke, and Jennifer Thrush, Piedmont; one brother, Robert Harold Parsons, Bloomington; two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Schoppert, Keyser, W.Va., and Janet Louise Barton, Cresaptown; and six grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport. A service was conducted at Christ Memorial Baptist Church on Saturday, Sept. 18, with the Rev. Steffan Carr officiating. Interment was in Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
