ANDREW B. LEATHERMAN
KEYSER, W.Va. -- Andrew B. Leatherman, 82, of Jake Staggers Road, Keyser, died on Thursday, April 19, 2001, at his residence.
Born on April 26, 1918, in Keyser, he was the son of the late Warner W. and Annie M. (Barnhouse) Leatherman. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Jane (Arnold) Leatherman on September 24, 1992.
Mr. Leatherman was a retired self-employed farmer and Custodian of the Mineral County VOTEC. He was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a member of the Sunnyside Church of the Brethren.
Surviving are his son, Robert A. Leatherman of Ft. Ashby; his two daughters, Anna Kathryn Fike and Carla S. Leatherman, both of Keyser; his four grandchildren, one step-grandchild and two step-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral Services will be conducted at the Markwood Funeral Home on Saturday, April 21, 2001, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Herman Baliles officiating.
Interment will be in Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
LAWRENCE LEASE
CUMBERLAND -- Lawrence Lease, 80, of Cumberland, died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at Memorial Hospital.
Born on Dec. 17, 1920, in Rawlings, he was the son of the late Joseph Edward and Kathryn (Dawson) Lease. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Lease; one son, George Lease; two sisters; and three brothers.
Mr. Lease was a Hospital Orderly at Memorial Hospital. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a member of the Cumberland Eagles Aerie #245, life member of Post 13 American Legion, life member of LaVale Volunteer Rescue Squad, and a member of the Western Maryland Labor Union Council Senior Citizens.
Surviving are one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Oakley, Mechanicsville; one son, Robert Lease, Leesburg, Va.; one sister, Helena Burger, Ohio; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
At Mr. Lease's request, his body was donated to medical science.
A memorial service will be conducted at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Stephen F. Yelovich officiating.
EUGENE F. PENDERGAST
CUMBERLAND -- Friends for Eugene F. Pendergast will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
Mass of a Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Western Maryland Health System Hospice Home Care, 900 Seton Drive, Cumberland, MD 21502.

CUMBERLAND -- Friends will be received for Galen C. McGregor at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral service will be conducted from The Lighthouse of Hope Assembly of God Church on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Wayne Turner officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

WILLIAM J. HELMSTETTER
CUMBERLAND -- William Joseph Helmstetter, 82, of 815 Maplewood Lane, Cumberland, died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born on Aug. 20, 1918, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Lawrence J. Helmstetter and Mary Catherine (Cavanaugh) Helmstetter. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Virginia D. (Cutter) Helmstetter in 1969; and two brothers, Edward L. and Robert C. "Mike" Helmstetter.
Mr. Helmstetter was retired from the Kelly-Spingfield Tire Company. He was a Army veteran of World War II veteran with the 29th Division, a Navy veteran during the Korean War, and he was a life member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
He is survived by his daughter, Debra Marie (Helmstetter) Godlove and husband James F., Hagerstown; three brothers, Joseph H. Helmstetter and wife Patricia, LaVale, George F. Helmstetter, Sun City, Fla., and John T. Helmstetter, Cumberland; three sisters, M. Virginia Padfield, Cumberland, E. Jane Mull, Willard, Ohio, and Pauline Stotler, Cumberland.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Wake Service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 8:45 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. with the Father Jerome Dunn, OFM, Cap., as celebrant.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Military honors will be accorded at the graveside by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
ROY L. SANDERS
OAKLAND -- Roy L. Sanders, 63, of Sunnyside Road, Oakland, died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Born on March 15, 1938, in Terra Alta, W.Va., he was the son of the late Russell and Mary (Bowser) Sanders. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Benjamin Sanders.
He was a member of the Oakland Church of Christ, the Garrett County Farm Bureau and was an Army veteran.
He was the vice-president of the Mountain Fresh Producers who operate the Farmers Tailgate Market, was a past president of the Southern Band Boosters and the Alumni Association of the Southern F.F.A.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine E. "Cathy" (Rinehart) Sanders; two daughters, Debbie L. Rounds, Oakland, and Danita Jo Rhodes and husband Ronnie, Oakland; one son, Glen R. "Butch" Sanders and wife Kathy, Oakland; four brothers, Russell Sanders and Gerald Sanders, both of Terra Alta, W.Va., Dale Sanders, Oakland, and James Sanders, Newell Wells, W.Va.; and eight grandchildren, Andy Rounds, Adam Sanders, Kellie Rounds, Zachary Rhodes, Travis Sanders, Shane Rounds, Ashley Rhodes and Missy Rhodes.
Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, April 22, 2001, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. David Moon officiating.
Interment will be in the Nine Cemetery, Oakland.
Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by members of the various veteran organizations in Southern Garrett County.
CHARLES S. BUTLER
WESTERNPORT -- Charles S. "Gobble" Butler died April 18, 2001, at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser. He was born in Piedmont, W.Va., on May 7, 1923. He was the son of Howard S. and Clara Dale (Leatherman) Butler.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Deloris (Harshberger) Butler, on March 28, 1965.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Frances (Cheshire) Butler, Westernport; his children, Janice LaRue and husband, Terry; Connie Lechliter and husband, Jerome; Charles S. Butler and wife, Linda and Richard B. Butler and wife, Carolyn, all of Piedmont; John W. Cheshire and wife, Linda, Westernport; Mikki Kaputa and husband, Jerry, Abbeyville, S.C. and Kelly Butler, St. Petersburg, Fla.
He is also survived by his sister, Virginia Strickler and husband, Glenn, Westernport; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was retired from Westvaco as a general mechanic with 43 years of service. He was a life member of Victory Post 155, American Legion, Westernport, and served as past commander. He was a member of Queen's Point VFW, McCoole, and the Disabled American Veterans. He was an avid fisherman and was Protestant by faith.
He was a veteran of World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
Friends will be received at the Fredlock Funeral Home, Piedmont, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Joseph Jarrett officiating. Interment will be in the Philos Cemetery, Westernport.
Military honors will be accorded by various veterans organizations.
