THRESA G. PLUMMER-CHEEK
CUMBERLAND -- Thresa G. Plummer-Cheek of Cumberland, went home to be with her Lord on Easter Sunday, April 15, 2001, at her residence.
Born on May 25, 1927, in Ridgeley, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Boyd and Sarah Sponaugle. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Harold O. "Jim" Plummer Sr.; an infant daughter, Cindy; five brothers; and one sister.
Mrs. Cheek was a member of the First Assembly of God for 42 years. She was a school bus driver for 24 years.
Surviving are her husband, Clarence Cheek; four sons, James H. Plummer and wife Deloris, Richard A. Plummer and wife Shirley, Harold O. Plummer Jr. and wife Kathy, and Eugene H. Plummer and wife Nancy; two stepsons, Dennis Cheek and wife Kim, and Phillip Cheek and wife Jessie; two stepdaughters, Lois Gistinger and husband Gary, and Deborah Sisco and husband Steven; five sisters, Madeline Burns, Lessie Spates and husband Maurice, Thelma Bowers, Corda Wilson and husband Ivan, and Betty Jean McKenzie and husband Walter; one brother, Claude Sponaugle and wife Frances; special friends, Don and Nancy Fansler; 25 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at First Assembly of God, 23 Elder St., Cumberland, on Thursday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Rodney Casteel officiating. Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the service from 12 noon until 1 p.m.
Interment will be in Zion Reformed Church Cemetery, Cumberland.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.

EDNA L. MILLESON
FORT ASHBY, W.Va. -- Edna Louise Milleson, 87, of Springfield, died Monday, April 15, 2001, at Hampshire Memorial Hospital.
Born on Jan. 4, 1914, close to Fort Ashby, she was the daughter of the late Lambert and Elsie Pearl (Ward) Wagoner. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Lambert M. Wagoner; and two sisters, Velda Pearl Crabtree and Ruth Day.
Mrs. Milleson had been a member of Mt. Olive United Methodist Church since she was 11 years old. She had been the church treasurer and Sunday school secretary for over 40 years. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, John Benjamin Milleson; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Inc., Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral service will be conducted from the funeral home on Wednesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Roy Stanley officiating.
Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Olive United Methodist Church.
Pallbearers will be Ray Hookey, Willard Garland, Dale Beam, Ronald Hoyd Jr., Jim Seeders and Kenny Day.
JULIA E. ARMSTRONG
KEYSER, W.Va. - Julia E. Armstrong, 78, of Push Root Road, Burlington, died on Sunday, April 15, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Born May 19, 1922, in Wheeling, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Rose (Newlon) Nicola. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Merle Rex Armstrong on March 9, 1998.
Mrs. Armstrong was a retired seamstress from the Keyser Garment Factory and was a Brethren by Faith. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are a daughter, Sandra S. Shoemaker and husband Lloyd C. of Purgitsville; a son, Merle R. Armstrong, Jr. and wife Margaret of Moses Lake, Wash. She is also survived by five grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday, April 19, 2001, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Larry Shrout officiating.
Interment will be in Queens Point Cemetery, Keyser.

CALVIN DIETZ
SHELBY, Ohio -- Calvin Dietz, 73, resident of 4476 Stiving Road, Shelby, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at his home following a short illness.
Born on May 10, 1927, in Cumberland, Md., he was the son of the late Orrie and Gertrude (Emerick) Dietz. He had been a Shelby resident since 1965.
Mr. Dietz was a truck driver with Central Transport retiring in 1987 and was currently employed with Family Meds Drugstore in Shelby. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served during World War II. He attended the Church of the Nazarene, enjoyed fishing and playing his harmonica and guitar.
Survivors include his wife, Alice (Robinette) Dietz, whom he wed on Jan. 18, 1949; one son and daughter-in-law, Calvin C. and Connie Dietz of Shelby; one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Richard Bowden of Rocky Mount, N.C.; five grandsons, Calvin and Andrew Dietz, Kevin and Craig Bowden, and Dustin Wilson; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Waneda and Paul Hartge of Shelby, and Marie Hosselrode of Baltimore, Md.; and nieces, nephews and other relatives. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Sandra J. Dietz Wilson in 1999; one brother, Orin Dietz; and one sister, Eileen Mowry.
Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday from the Barkdull Funeral Home with the Rev. Lester R. Champer officiating.
Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Cook's cemetery near Wellersburg, Pa.

VIOLA M. MACKENZIE
CROFTON -- Viola Mae MacKenzie died peacefully on February 20, 2001. She was nearly 94 years old at the time and a resident of the Crofton Convalescent Home in Crofton, close to her family.
Born in 1907, she was a member of the Cumberland community for over 90 years. At the age of 4, she was the proud poster child for Coca-Cola Company. Throughout her adult life, she touched many young minds and hearts as she substitute taught music at various schools throughout the county. "Ms. Mac" loved teaching children, young and old, how to appreciate music and how to love singing. She is remembered for her energy, her active spirit and her loving generosity.
She was the wife of M. Monroe MacKenzie, owner of a local hardware store and mother of two daughters, who survive her, Phyllis Coles of N.C., and Vera Elaine Taschenberger of Maryland. She is missed by her younger sister, Elizabeth Micheals, Kansas City, Missouri; her sister-in-law, Gertrude Moreland; two grandchildren, Brian Taschenberger, Crofton, Lisa Tascchenberger, Lima, Peru; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Through her love of singing, Viola was active in the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, most of her adult life. Even in her last days, one could hear humming a favorite hymn. Viola was a member and past worthy matron of Cumberland Chapter 56, Order of Eastern Star, former Mother Advisor of the International Order of Rainbow for Girls and a charter member of the Mapleside Homemakers. She also sang in the Cumberland Choral Society for many years as well as being a member of the Cumberland Music and Arts Club.
She outlived many of her friends and most of her classmates, but she will be remembered in the hearts of those who knew her forever.
A small memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on Sunday, April 22, 2001, at 1 p.m.
