HELEN L. DEVORE
HYNDMAN, Pa. - Helen Lucille DeVore, 97, of Church Street, Hyndman, died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at WMHS Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Born on Dec. 23, 1908, in Hyndman, she was a daughter of the late Frederick William and Pricilla Gertrude (Albright) Bruck.
Surviving are a son, Robert R. DeVore, Oak Park, Ill.; two daughters, Gertrude D. Pensyl, Hyndman, and Ruth D. Miller, Hagerstown, Md.; a sister, Phyllis B. Eisentrout, Fort Ashby, W.Va.; 12 grandchildren, Stanley, Mervin and Lynn Pensyl, Robert Miller, Anne, William, Robert J., Daniel, Frederick, James and John DeVore, and Mary Beth DeVore Bennett; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death in 1959 by William Charles Mervin DeVore, her husband of 37 years, whom she married
Nov. 1, 1922; also by a brother, Ray Bruck; a sister, Margaret Hyatt; a great-grandson, Joshua DeVore; and a great-great-grandson, Joshua Hosselrode.
Mrs. DeVore was a homemaker, a member of Grace UMC, Hyndman, which she had joined in 1910, and where she had been celebrated as its oldest member. She was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star 41, Bedford, and of the Hyndman Senior Citzens. An avid newspaper reader, she enjoyed needle point crafts, quilting and growing flowers.
Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, 169 Clarence St., Hyndman, on Monday, April 16, 2001, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Julie L. Applegate and the Rev. Roger A. Johnson officiating.
Mrs. DeVoreıs grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
Interment will be in Madley-Yutzy Cemetery, Buffalo Mills.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to Grace UMC, Hyndman, or the Hyndman Area Rescue Squad.
DANIEL C. WHITTELSEY
MOUNT LAKE PARK - Daniel Chauncey Whittelsey, 77, of Mountain Lake Park, formerly of Coral Gables, Fla., passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2001, in Morgantown, W.Va.
He was born on Jan. 24, 1924, in Bay Shore, Long Island, N.Y., and was a son of the late Daniel I. Whittelsey and Freda (Peck) Whittelsey. Mr. Whittelsey graduated from the Taft School in 1943, and from Yale University in 1950. He was a veteran of World War II, where he served as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy. He was the founder and CEO of Whittelsey Wood Products and Jacaranda Incorporated, Miami, Fla. Mr. Whittelsey was a member of the Yale Club and the Deep Creek Yacht Club. He enjoyed local politics, and was a columnist for The Republican newspaper in Oakland.
He is survived by his wife, Elisabeth (Luckey) Whittelsey; two sons, Daniel I. Whittelsey and his wife Deborah of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Thomas F. Whittelsey and his wife Mari of Miami, Fla.; two daughters, Lee Saba and her husband David of Ashburn, Va., and Carol P. Bonella and her husband Robert of Sarasota, Fla.; one sister, Katherine H. Whittelsey of Charlottesville, Va.; and nine grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Durst Funeral Home in Oakland, on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at St. Matthewıs Episcopal Church on Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Father Chip Lee officiating.
Interment will be in the Putnam cemetery in Greenwich, Conn. The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Southern Garrett Rescue Squad or the American Diabetes Association.
SANFORD M. WELTON SR.
DECATUR, Ill. - Sanford Montgomery Welton Sr., 64, died at 11 p.m. Monday, April 9, 2001 at his residence in Decatur, Ill. He was born March 8, 1937, in Cumberland, Md., the son of Wright M. and Harriette J. (Wierer) Welton, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Welton retired as Quality Control Development Supervisor after 35 years of service with PPG Industries. He attended the University of Maryland and Yale University and served as a Chinese interpreter in the U.S. Air Force for eight years. He graduated from Piedmont High School, class of 1955.
Surviving are his son, Sanford M. Welton Jr. and wife Penny; daughter, Adair Welton Ward and husband Peter, of Springfield, Ill.; two sisters, Adair Welton Markby and husband Harry, of Cumberland, and Ruth Welton Taber and husband Willard, of LaVale, Md.; a brother, Wright M. Welton and wife Norma Jean, of Kiefer, Md.; grandchildren Kristina, Jacquelyn, Jonathon and Jeffrey; three nieces; four nephews; two great-nieces; and four great-nephews.
Services will be held at 7:30 p.m. with visitation from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 13, 2001, at Dawson and Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home, Decatur.
On Monday, April 16, 2001, at 10 a.m. there will be a visitation at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, Md. Graveside services will be conducted in Philos Cemetery, Westernport, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Mickey Stephens of Grace Memorial Community Church, Cumberland, with interment to follow.
The family would like to thank Michelle, Vicki, Laynie, Sandy and Sundi, for the loving care they provided for our father, grandfather and brother.

PERRY F. VANSICKLE
FRIENDSVILLE - Perry Franklin VanSickle, 90, formerly of 365 Wakefield Road, Friendsville, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at Cuppett-Weeks Nursing Home, Oakland.
Born on July 7, 1910, in Friendsville, he was a son of the late Samuel and Ella (Uphold) VanSickle. He was also preceded in death by his wife, L. Lauretta (VanSickle) VanSickle on April 6, 2000.
Mr. VanSickle was a member of the Keeler Glade Church of God and was a farmer.
He is survived by three sons, James E., Raymond C. and Lott VanSickle, all of Friendsville; four daughters, Janet L. Fike and Judith C. Frazee, both of Friendsville, Alice Catherine Hartzell, Boonsboro, and Mary Janet Yoder, Cumberland; two brothers, Jack VanSickle, Friendsville, Joe VanSickle, Oakland; one half brother, Ray VanSickle, Friendsville; one sister, Amanda Lowdermilk, Friendsville; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 943 Second Ave., Friendsville, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Pastor Cathy Harman officiating.
Interment will be in Blooming Rose Cemetery.

CHARLES J. WAGONER
CUMBERLAND - Charles Jackson ³Jack² Wagoner, 74, of Cumberland, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born on July 6, 1926, in Springfield, W.Va., he was the son of the late Elwood Hughes and Grace (Runion) Wagoner. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Reba Roach and Josephine Pownell.
Mr. Wagoner owned and operated Ren Roy Flowers, Cumberland, for 42 years. He was very active in the FTD and Southern Retail Trade Association.
Mr. Wagoner was a member of the Springfield Presbyterian Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Surviving are three brothers, E. Alex Wagoner, Martinsburg, W.Va., Loy A. Wagoner, Annapolis, and R. Dan Wagoner, New London, Conn.; four sisters, Maxine Mahood, Paw Paw, W.Va., Mary Susan Williams, Romney, W.Va., Hannah Grace Sincell, Oakland, and Martha Ann McLoughlin, Stockton, Calif.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, Friday from 6 to 9 p.m.
The funeral service will be held at the Shaffer Funeral Home Saturday, April 14 at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Jeffrey D. Lang officiating.
Burial will be in the family cemetery at the Wagoner Farm, Danıs Run Road, Fort Ashby.

JAMES R. GRAHAME
CUMBERLAND - James Roy Grahame, 57, of Cumberland, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at Memorial Hospital.
Born on Nov. 23, 1943, in Cumberland, he was the son of the son of the late Joseph William Grahame and Nellie (Davis) Grahame.
Mr. Grahame was machinist for the CSX Transportation Systems. He was a graduate of Fort Hill High School Class of 1961, a veteran of the U.S. Army, Vietnam era. He was a member of the Machinist Local, Cumberland Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie #245, Cumberland Outdoor Club, Goodfellowship Club, and American Legion Post #297.
He is survived by his daughter, Erica L. Grahame, Raleigh, N.C.; two stepdaughters, Kedra S. Martin, Cleveland, Ohio, and Kelley Sassano, Raleigh, N.C.; a sister, Louise G. VanMeter and husband James, Ridgeley, W.Va.; two brothers, Joseph W. Grahame Jr. and wife Sandra, Elkins, W.Va., and John (Jack) B. Grahame and wife Linda, Decatur, MI; three nieces, Joelle Kenney, Jenna Gongola and Beth Grahame; a nephew, Bradley Grahame; and many special friends.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. O. Morton Harris officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park.
