MADISON B. JOHNSON
KEYSER, W.Va. -- Madison Bryne "Johnnie" Johnson, 77, of Route 6, Box 6632, Keyser, died Sunday, July 29, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Born on May 28, 1924, in Purgitsville, he was the son of the late Walter Olie and Leona May (Whetzel) Johnson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Milagros "Norma" (Ramos) Johnson on July 8, 1999, and by a half brother, Gene Wilt.
Mr. Johnson was retired as a brakeman and conductor with the B&O Railroad, with 35 years of service. He was a U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Queen's Point Memorial Post #6775, V.F.W., McCoole, Md. He attended the Pinto Mennonite Church and was an avid musician, hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman.
Surviving are four sons, John Wesley Johnson, Keyser, Madison B. Johnson Jr., Warren, Mich., James Lee Johnson, Friendsville, Md., and Edwin Dennis Johnson, Darkesville; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Wednesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Lester Hershey officiating.
Interment will be in the Fort Ashby Cemetery, Fort Ashby. Graveside military honors will be accorded.
MARY P. ROSS
CUMBERLAND -- Mary Pauline "Polly" Ross, 75, of 13007 Bedford Road, NE, Cumberland, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, July 29, 2001, at the Allegany County Nursing Home.
Born on Jan. 8, 1926, in Three Churches, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Thomas Edwin McBride and Julia Ann (Gearhart) McBride. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, William Edwin Daugherty; her second husband, Dean W. Ross; and a sister, Hope Kubes.
Mrs. Ross was a volunteer reading tutor for the Allegany County Board of Education. She was a member of Bedford Road Baptist Church.
Surviving are her daughter, Lucinda "Cindy" (Daugherty) Emrick and husband Brian, Cumberland; a grandson, Brian K. Holsberry, San Antonio, Texas; a step-daughter, Lucretia Craft and husband Paul, Mississippi; a step-son, Harold "Skip" Ross and wife Charileen, Pennsylvania; and four step-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
A graveside service will be conducted on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Park with the Pastor Bruce P. Baugus officiating.
DANIEL A. FLETCHER
CANTON, Mich. -- Daniel A. Fletcher, 62, of Canton, died Monday, July 23, 2001, in Superior Township.
Born on Oct. 27, 1938, in Cumberland, Md., he was the son of former States Attorney and Mrs. Paul M. Fletcher.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Sherri Fletcher; two children, Paul Fletcher, New Haven, Conn., and Tricia Fletcher, Boston, Mass.; and two step-children, Wendy (Steven) Nipper Payt, Columbus, Ohio, and Andrew Nipper, Canton. He was also preceded in death by a son, Bradley Fletcher.
He attended West Point Military Academy and graduated from Dickinson College in Pennsylvania. He was in the insurance industry for 40 years, and was employed by Mundis & Mundis Agency, Ann Arbor, Mich., for 14 years. He was a former president of Canton Lions Football/Booster Club, and Plymouth and Salem Football Booster Club. He was a golf enthusiast and an avid supporter of University of Maryland Terrapin Club. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Canton Chamber of Commerce.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, July 28, 2001, at the First United Methodist Church of Plymouth, with the Rev. John Grenfell officiating.

GLADA F. DAWSON
LOCH LYNN -- Glada F. Dawson, 79, of Second Avenue, Loch Lynn, went to be with her Lord on Monday, July 30, 2001, at her home.
Born on Jan. 9, 1922, in Oakland, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Ida A. (Cogley) Johnson. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Sandra K. Ours in 2000.
She was the founding member of the Full Gospel Revival Center, Loch Lynn.
She is survived by her husband, Chester E. Dawson; one daughter, Wanda F. Dawson, Loch Lynn; one son, Roy E. Dawson and wife Georgie, Loch Lynn; two sisters, Della Jane Gross, Cresaptown, and Dorothy Beckman, Oakland; and one granddaughter, Wanda K. Ours, Loch Lynn.
Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, 32 S. Second St., Oakland, Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Buck Hanson and the Rev. Lela Sledge officiating.
Interment will be in Garrett County Memorial Gardens, Oakland.
J. ELMER HOWELL
CUMBERLAND -- J. Elmer Howell, 87, of Sparrow Lane, SW, Cumberland, formerly of Oakland, died Saturday, July 28, 2001, at the Cumberland Nursing Home, Cumberland.
Born on April 28, 1914, in Dry Run, he was the son of the late Josephus and Ada (Bowers) Howell.
He was a retired farmer and coal miner having worked for the Fitzwater Mining Co., Swanton. He attended the LaVale Assembly of God Church and the Loch Lynn Church of God. One of his greatest joys was being a grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Jane K. (White)(Hardesty) Howell; one step-daughter, Nancy L. Doerr, Accident; three step-sons, Charles H. Hardesty, Swanton, Thomas W. Hardesty, Mountain Lake Park, and Ronald D. Sisler, Middletown; one sister, Leona Rice, Cumberland; one brother, George Howell, Baltimore; 12 step-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild.
Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, 32 S. Second St., Oakland, Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the Loch Lynn Church of God on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2001, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Stephen Schuessler and the Rev. Ivan Ackerman officiating.
Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in the Deer Park Cemetery.
MARGARET G. DAVIS
CUMBERLAND -- Margaret G. Davis, 93, of the Cumberland Nursing Center, formerly of Baltimore, died Saturday, July 28, 2001, at the nursing center.
Born on March 16, 1908, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Louisa (Taylor) Beeche. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James F. Davis in 1973; one son, James E. Davis; five brothers; and two sisters.
Mrs. Davis was a sales clerk in Hutzlers Department Store, a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Salvation Army Auxiliary, Mapleside Homemakers Association, the South Cumberland Business and Civic Association, and the Area Senior Citizens Organizations.
Surviving are one daughter-in-law, Jacquelyn F. (Ringler) Davis, Waynesville, N.C.; two grandchildren, Dr. Todd D. Davis, Sylva, N.C., and Tracey Redding and husband Paul, Gaithersburg; and five great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Tyler, Matthew, Sommer and Justin.
There will be no visitation.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with Father Milton A. Hipsley as celebrant.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
The Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, is in charge of the arrangements.
WINIFRED B. ORDNER
WESTERNPORT -- Winifred "Winnie" B. Ordner, 87, of 420 Vine St., Westernport, died Friday, July 27, 2001, at her residence.
Born on Aug. 9, 1913, in Lonaconing, she was the daughter of the late Walter "Fidge" Blubaugh and the late Bridget (Mills) Blubaugh Sultzer. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Ordner; her stepfather, Henry Sultzer; four brothers, James Blubaugh, Joseph Blubaugh, Russell Blubaugh, and Frank Sultzer; and two sisters, Eleanor Carder Beeman and Evelyn Kisselovich. Mrs. Ordner was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are one brother, Charles E. Sultzer and wife Lois of Swanton; two sisters, Rachel "Penny" Delligatti of Cumberland, Susan Gambini and husband Jack of New Creek, W.Va.; a sister-in-law, Mary Blubaugh of Cresaptown; and a brother-in-law, Joe Kisselovich of Oakland.
Mrs. Ordner was a homemaker and a member of the Westernport United Methodist Church, Vine Street.
At Mrs. Ordner's request, her body was donated to the State Anatomy Board of Maryland.
A celebration of her life will be held on Aug. 26 at Westernport United Methodist Church, 434 Vine St., Westernport, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. John Footen officiating.
