NELLIE E. HOWELL
BARTON -- Nellie E. Howell, 101, of Dogwood Flat, Barton, died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2001, at Egle Nursing Home, Lonaconing, where she had been a resident.
Born in Barton, on Sept. 30, 1899, she was the daughter of the late John A. and Elizabeth (Preston) Metz. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John G. Howell in March 1977; one sister, Lillie Ross; and four brothers, Clarence, Earl, Leslie and Charles Metz.
Mrs. Howell was a member of Barton United Methodist Church, member of Pride of Barton Council #77 Daughters of America, member of Ladies Auxiliary Barton Hose Co. #1, member of Ladies Auxiliary Barton American Legion #189, and the Barton Senior Citizens. She was still an avid reader of local newspapers and magazines, and an avid bingo player.
Surviving are three sisters-in-law, Alice Metz of Barton, Vera Metz and Mabel Metz, both of Egle Nursing Home, Lonaconing; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the chapel on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. John Park officiating.
Interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills.
N. ARLENE HINKLE
FORT ASHBY, W.Va. -- Norma Arlene Hinkle, 58, of Fort Ashby, died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001, at Memorial Hospital.
Born on March 10, 1943, in Fort Ashby, she was the daughter of Letha M. (Abe) Self, Fort Ashby, and the late Floyd G. Self.
Mrs. Hinkle was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, Cresaptown. She received her BS degree in Library Science from Shepherd College and her Masters degree in Elementary Education from WVU. She had been a Librarian at Frankfort Middle School for 36 years. She was a member of Chapter #426 of the Experimental Aircraft Association, Cumberland.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her loving husband of 26 years, Leon B. Hinkle; two daughters, Krystal Dawn Hinkle and Tracey Marie Hinkle, both at home; one sister, Marylan K. Liller, Short Gap; mother and father-in-law, John and Lodema Hinkle, Fort Ashby; brother and sister-in-law, Bruce and Brenda Hinkle, Fort Ashby; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Inc., Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Calvary Baptist Church on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Pastor David Kraft officiating. Her body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Keith Morris, Bill Johnson, Dick Fordyce, James Spataro, Joseph Sank and Charles Nicholson.

RICHARD S. ALLEN
CUMBERLAND -- Richard Saylor Allen, 79, of Cumberland, died peacefully in his sleep on July 31, 2001.
Mr. Allen was born and raised in Cumberland, the son of the late Saylor Richard and Dora (Massey) Allen.
After serving in the Army during World War II, he relocated to California, Pennsylvania. Mr. Allen retired after 40 years with the Pittsburgh National Bank, and several years ago returned to Cumberland to live.
Mr. Allen is survived by his wife, Sara Lee Allen; two daughters, Linda Allen-Benton of Fort Washington, Mary Jo Allen of Edmonston; a son-in-law, George W. Benton of Fort Washington; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.
The viewing will be held at Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Thursday, Aug. 2, from 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at the McKendree United Methodist Church, the Rev. Dan Wright will officiate.
Interment will be in Maryland State Veterans Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the local combined veterans honor guard.

CHARLES WHITEHEAD JR.
MIDLOTHIAN --Charles "Chick" Whitehead Jr., 75, of 19910 Old Midlothian Road, died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001, at his residence.
Born May 29, 1926, in Midlothian, he was the son of the late Charles Sr. and Dora (Reitenbaugh) Whitehead. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Mr. Whitehead was retired from Laborers Local 616, Cumberland as a construction worker. He was a member of the Barton American Legion.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Dorothy (Brennan) Whitehead; one son, Tim Whitehead, Midlothian, and a loyal companion and friend, his dog Sam.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 1 p.m., with the Rev. George Loar officiating.
Interment will be in the Frostburg Memorial Park where member of Farrady Post 24 American Legion Honor Guard will accord military honors.
Pallbearers will be Tom Skidmore, Jim Phillips, Jeff Phillips, Eric Phillips, Jerry Phillips, and Ray Drew.
Honorary pallbearers will be Stanley Taylor, Vernon Hartman, Alvin Brode, Jim Tennant, and Howard Skidmore.
ANDREW P. HAMBURG
CUMBERLAND -- Andrew Paul Hamburg, 81, of Cumberland, died Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at the Allegany County Nursing Home.
Born march 1, 1920, in Davis, W.Va., he was the son of the late Andy and Stella (Day) Hamburg.
Mr. Hamburg was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He had retired as a self employed painter.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, Thursday from 9 to 10 a.m.
Funeral services will be conducted a the funeral home on Thursday, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Senan Glass officiating.
Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
KATHLEEN E. LUCAS
KITZMILLER -- Kathleen Elizabeth Lucas, 76, died Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at her residence.
Born Aug. 31, 1924, in Elk Garden, she was a daughter of the late Wesley and Rhoda Shillingburg. Mrs. Lucas was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth and a daughter, Sharon Newport.
Surviving are three sons, Robert Lucas and William Lucas both of Kitzmiller, Gary Lucas of New Creek. Also surviving are two daughters, Maxine Elburn and Peggy Davidson both of Oakland; eight grandchildren, Kaye Lucas, Willie Lucas, Aaron Lucas, Robert Elburn Jr., Danny Davidson, Christopher R. Fout, Meranda L. Fout, Alisha Lucas; and three great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home in Kitzmiller.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. in the House Of Prayer, Hartmansville, W.Va. with the Rev. Leslie Hipp officiating.
Interment will be in the IOOF cemetery Elk Garden.
STELLA M. REYNOLDS
MOOREFIELD, W.Va. -- Stella Mae Reynolds, 78, of Trough Route, Moorefield, passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at the Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, Va.
Born Sept. 7, 1922, in Old Fields, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Nellie (Shears) Drake. She was preceded in death by one brother, Charles "Ike" Drake.
Surviving are her husband of 62 years, Randolph "Pete" Reynolds; two sons, Charles L. Reynolds and wife Joan of Morgantown, Charlie Reynolds and wife Stacy of Romney; four daughters, Barbara Parsons and husband Howard of Masontown, Iona Barnett of Morgantown, Kimberly Barnett and husband Steve of Westover, Melissa Hipp and husband Brian of Moorefield; eight grandchildren, Kendra and Robert Casteel, Candace Reynolds, Randy Reynolds, Matthew Reynolds, Matthew Barnett, B.J. Lake and Bryan Barnett; and 11 great-grandchildren, Cory Reynolds, Devon Hipp, Ashley and Kayla Casteel, Tiffani, Zachary and Tori Reynolds, Brittany Durham, Amber Dunnigan, Taylor and Tyler Humphries.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Fraley Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 2, 2001, at the Fraley Funeral Home in Moorefield with Brian Hipp officiating.
At her request, Mrs. Reynolds will be cremated after the services on Thursday.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Fraley Funeral Home of Moorefield.
