RAYMOND E. PRYOR
CUMBERLAND -- Raymond Elwood Pryor, 70, of 411 Memorial Avenue Extended, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, at Memorial Hospital.
Born July 14, 1931, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Lester Elwood and Virginia Isadore (Sirbaugh) Pryor.
Mr. Pryor was a retired conductor for CSX Railroad. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion Post 13.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Bettye Lorraine (Haines) Pryor; two sons, Ricky Allen Pryor and wife Diane, Cumberland, Douglas Ray Pryor, Wilmington, Del.; one daughter, Vicki Lorraine Pryor-Weaver and husband Ernie, Ridgeley, W.Va.; five grandchildren, David Brian Lancaster and wife Ronda, Jason Michael Lancaster and wife Marcy, Nicholas Ray Pryor, Gretchen May Pryor, all of Cumberland, Danielle Nicole White, Ridgeley; one great-grandchild, Jacob Michael Lancaster, Cumberland; four brothers, Clarence Junior Pryor, Paul Morgan Pryor, Robert Lee Pryor, Roy Allen Pryor, all of Cumberland; four sisters, Virginia Elizabeth Beckwith, Mary Lou Miller, Sandra Carol Peer, Shirley Ann Chandler; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Monday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Richard H. Jewell officiating.
Interment will be in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Rocky Gap, Flintstone.
Military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Western Maryland Health System Home Hospice Care.
JEAN L. DIETZ
HYNDMAN, Pa. -- Jean Lois Dietz, 75, of Bernard's Lane, Hyndman, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, at Pennknoll Village Nursing Center, Everett.
Born July 9, 1926, in Fairhope, she was a daughter of the late George and Hulda (Richardson) Merkel. On July 9, 1942, she married
Harvey Stanford "Bud" Dietz, who preceded her in death in March 1997. She was also preceded in death by five brothers, Lee, Donald, Daris, Dewey, and Harry Merkel; one sister, Helen Nair; and one grandson, Donald Urice.
Surviving are four sons, Ronald Dietz and wife Dorothy, Boothwyn, Jerry Dietz, Manns Choice, William "Bill" Dietz and wife Linda (Smith) and Barry Dietz and wife Carol (Dawson), all of Hyndman; three daughters, Rita, wife of James Urice, Corriganville, Pamela, wife of Don Stuby, Hyndman, and Tammy, wife of Wayne McMannis, Arcadia, Fla.; two brothers, Victor Merkel, Cumberland, John Dermer and wife Juanita, Ohio; three sisters, Alma, widow of the late Raymond Custer, Betty, wife of Harvey Huffman, and Shirley, wife of Vernon Emerick, all of Kennells Mills; 19 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Dietz was a homemaker. She was a former member of the Hyndman Senior Citizens and had been active in the Hyndman VFC Ladies Auxiliary.
Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, 169 Clarence St., Hyndman, on Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2001, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2001, with the Rev. Roger O. Huffman officiating.
Interment will be in Hyndman Cemetery.
JOHN F. GORDON
WINCHESTER ROAD, LaVale -- John F. "Pap" Gordon, 80, formerly of Frostburg, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, at Frostburg Village Nursing Home.
Born Oct. 2, 1920, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late Abram and Cecelia (Hosken) Gordon.
Mr. Gordon was a World War II veteran. He fought in the European Campaign and was awarded the Bronze star and the Purple Heart. He was retired from the State Highway Administration and was an avid carpenter.
He was a member of American Legion Farrady Post 24, Mount Savage V.F.W. 6025, and Fort Cumberland D.A.V. Chapter 2.
Beloved husband on 56 years to Nancy Lee (Layman) Gordon, he is also survived by three sons, John Francis Gordon Jr. and wife Esther, LaVale, Paul Eugene Gordon and wife Debbie, Cumberland, Charles Frederick Gordon, Ind.; two daughters, Linda Lee O'Connor and husband Brian, Ridgeley, W.Va., Karen Sue Beitzel and husband Dale, Germantown; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was one of 15 children. There are two surviving sisters, Mary Housel, Zihlman and Olive Bridges, Kennel's Mill, Pa.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 W. Main St., Frostburg, on Monday from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Fort Cumberland D.A.V. Chapter 2 will hold a memorial service at 7:30 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Harold R. McClay Jr. officiating.
Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park. Honor guard members of American Legion Farrady Post 24, Mount Savage V.F.W. Old Rail Post 6025, and Fort Cumberland D.A.V. Chapter 2 will accord military honors at graveside.
Pallbearers, all nephews will be, Earl Cook, Dennis Cook, William Gordon, and Larry Housel, Mark Housel.
DANNY B. THOMAS
CUMBERLAND -- Danny Berkley Thomas, 76, of 920 Kent Ave., Cumberland, died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, at Memorial Hospital.
Born May 9, 1925, in Fairmont, W.Va., he was the son of the late Dorsey Berkely Thomas and Opal Virginia (Robinson) Thomas.
Mr. Thomas was a retired manager of Commercial Press. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member and Past Master of Ohr Lodge 131 A.F. and A.M., Cumberland Scottish Rite Bodies, 33rd degree knights Commander Court of Honor, Antioch Commandary 6 knights Templar, Salem Chapter 11 R.A. and S.M., Salem Chapter 18, R.A.M., Honorary member of East Gate Lodge, McKinley Chapter 12 Order of the Eastern Star, and Cumberland Kiwanis.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy M. (Barth) Thomas; a brother, Donald R. Thomas and wife Betty, Philadelphia, Pa.; two sisters, Lois Ann Hall, Fairmont, and Betty Jo Paton, Elkins; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Monday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Tuesday, 10 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Tom Landaker officiating.
Interment will be in Maryland Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap.
Ohr Lodge 131 A.F. and A.M. will conduct a memorial service on Monday at 7:15 p.m.
Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the combined veterans honor guard.

JOHANNA J. YATCHYSHYN
CUMBERLAND -- Johanna Jaworski Yatchyshyn, 80, of Cumberland, formerly of Belle Vernon, Pa., and Palm Harbour, Fla., died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, at Mon Valley Hospital, Charleroi.
Born Sept. 23, 1920, in Lock 4, N. Charleroi, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Kolchesky Jaworski. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Peter Yatchyshyn, DC, in 1992; an infant son; two sisters, Olga Wieczorkski, Upper St. Clair, Pa, and Vicki Zuzik, Cleveland, Ohio; and a son-in-law, Stephen Sturgeon, N.C.
Survivors include one son, Dean M. Yatchyshyn and wife Sharon, Cresaptown; three daughters, Lana Foor and husband Dennis, Belle Vernon, Anna Marie Miller and husband Stephen "Larry", Cumberland, Stephanie Sturgeon, Dunedin, Fla.; a brother, Edward Jaworski, Ocala, Fla.; a sister, Julia Jaworski Bly, Lock 4, N. Charleroi; three grandchildren, Alexa and Brandon Foor, Belle Vernon, and Daniel Miller, Urbana, Md.
A Memorial service will be conducted Monday, Aug. 13, 2001, at 7 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Country Club Road, Cumberland, with John C. Richmond officiating.

MARY C. HOOVER
CUMBERLAND -- Mary Catherine Hoover, 80, of 15902 Brice Hollow Road, SE, Cumberland, died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2001, at Memorial Hospital.
Born May 22, 1921, in Sand Run, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Waitman T. Towsend and Katie Melinda (Reid) Towsend. She was also preceded by her husband, Ralph Hoover in 2000.
Mrs. Hoover was a retired Postmaster from the Spring Gap, post office. She was a member of Mount Tabor United Methodist Church and the National Association of Postmasters.
She is survived by her son, Jerry Hoover and wife Martha, Cumberland; two daughters, Helen Libey, Columbia, Brenda Ebersole and husband Toby, Perry Hall; two sisters, Gordie Pappas, Huntington, Marjorie Markowich, Greenbelt; three grandchildren, Sherrill Libey, Rebecca Ebersole, and Michael J. Hoover.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001, at 1:30 p.m. where a memorial service will be conducted with the Rev. Mike Henning officiating.
Interment will be in Mount Tabor Cemetery.
JAMES F. BAIER
CUMBERLAND -- James Francis Baier, 68, of Kensington/Algonquian, Cumberland, died Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 4, 1932, in Pittsburgh, Pa., he was the son of the late John Killian Baier and Marie Clair (Vasco) Baier. Also preceded in death by a son, John Baier, Oct. 3, 1991.
Mr. Baier was a Traffic Control Officer for Huls America, Incorporation Chemical Company. He was an U.S. Army veteran of Korea.
He is survived by two daughters, Roseanne Lapp and husband David and Betsy Day and husband Andy, both of Cumberland; two sons, James Baier and wife Lila, Greensburg, Pa., and Eric Baier and wife Nancy, Fla.; two brothers, Dennis Baier, Pittsburgh, Pa., Father Donald Baier, Fla; and five grandchildren.
