W. ROBERT NETHKEN
OAKLAND -- W. Robert Nethken, 88, of Turkey Neck Road, Oakland, died Sunday, July 22, 2001, at the Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born on Oct. 3, 1912, in Elk Garden, W.Va., he was the son of the late Warden R. and Caroline (Pritts) Nethken. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Philomena E. (Schuvke) Nethken.
He was the president and C.E.O. of Nethken Company, coal mining. He was a graduate of St. John's College, Annapolis with a BA in English and a member of the KA Fraternity.
He is survived by two daughters, Ann Ehlers, LaVale, and Eleanor Alvarez, Westerville, Ohio.
At. Mr. Nethken's request his body will be cremated.
The Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, is in charge of arrangements.
ELVA N. MCCABE
Westernport -- Elva N. McCabe, 91, formerly of 402 Vine Street, departed this life on Sunday, July 22, 2001, at the Frostburg Village Nursing Home, after a lengthy illness.
Born on Oct. 16, 1909, in Westernport, she was the daughter of the late Bruce Nicola and Minnie (Duckworth) Nicola. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph B. McCabe; her daughter, Mary Frances Larry; one grandson, Shawn B. Smith; two brothers, Raymond and Wilbur Nicola; and a sister, Leona B. Nicola.
Mrs. McCabe was owner of the Vine Street Grocery, Westernport, which she operated with her husband, Joseph for 27 years. She was a graduate of Bruce High School and a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church.
Surviving are her daughters, Joanne C. Welsh and husband Paul J. of Westernport and Eleanor T. Ewing and husband Bill of Cumberland; her sister, Vera Wiltison of Keyser; her five grandsons, Glenn M. Welsh and wife Mickie of Keyser, Pastor Randall W. Larry and wife Diane of Keyser, David W. Larry of Cumberland, Gregory H. Larry of Cumberland, and Christopher W. Ewing of Manassa, Va.; her two granddaughters, Marsha C. King and Charles of Harrisonburg, and Sonja E. Stewart and husband Jim of Jefferson. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren, Brandon, Derek, Seth, Zachary, Brooke, Daniel, Rachael, Sarah and Michele.
Friends will be received at the Fredlock Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 24, 2001, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter's Catholic Church on Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at 11:00 a.m. with Father Adam Parker as celebrant.
Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Westernport.
If lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Peter's Catholic School or the Tri-Town's Rescue Squad.
MARY E. DAWSON
CUMBERLAND -- Mary E. Dawson, 84, of Arch Street, Cumberland, died, Saturday, July 21, 2001, at home.
Born Sept. 19, 1916, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late John Thomas and Mary Geneva (Masemore) Williams. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Raymond E. Dawson Sr., 1993; two sisters, Frances Williams Tubbs, and Dorothy Williams Thomas; and two brothers John Thomas Williams; and Carl Elwood Williams, July 20, 2001.
Mrs. Dawson was a homemaker and a member of Christ United Methodist Church.
Surviving are one son, Raymond E. Dawson Jr. and wife Mary Lou, Cumberland; two brothers, David Franklin Williams, and Owen Masemore Williams and wife Mildred, all of Cumberland; three grandchildren, Karen Reed, Brian Dawson, and Steve Dawson and wife Mary, all of Cumberland; three great-grandchildren, Danny Reed, Stephanie Dawson, and Lisa Binnix; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m.
Joint funeral services for Mary Dawson and her brother, Carl Williams, will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Max Greenfield and the Rev. Wayne R. Turner officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
The family requests that contributions be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, the American Heart Association, or the Bishop Walsh Middle High School.
HAROLD W. MOORE
CUMBERLAND -- Harold William Moore, 81, of Cumberland, died Saturday, July 21, 2001 at the Cumberland Nursing Center.
Born Sept. 4, 1919, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late George Washington and Martha Wilhemina Moore. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Lee (Lindsay) Moore; one brother, and one sister.
Mr. Moore was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and retired from the Potomac Edison Company after 25 years of service. He was Catholic by faith.
Surviving are one daughter, Donna Susan (Moore) Bauman and husband John Stephen, Wiley Ford, W.Va.; one granddaughter, Susan Lee (Bauman) Norman and husband Edward Lee, Wiley Ford; four great-grandchildren, Edward Stephen Norman, Brittini Nicole Norman, Katlyn Gwyn Norman, and Lindsay Ann Norman; one sister, Betty Greene, Fla.; and two brothers, Walter Moore, Cumberland, and Thompson Moore, Mich.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Rosary will be recited Sunday at 8:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Monday at 10:30 a.m. with Father Jerome Dunn, O.F.M., Cap. as celebrant.
At Mr. Moore's request his body will be cremated.
Military honors will be accorded at the church by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
Pallbearers will be Vincent Brockey, Edward L. Norman, Eddie S. Norman, Paul Brockey Jr., and J. Bauman.
WILLIAM H. BOWDEN
CUMBERLAND -- William Henry Bowden, 78, of Cumberland, died Saturday, July 21, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Dec. 5, 1922, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Cook) Bowden. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Ethelwyn Sidaway, Bernice Wolford, and Charlene Painter.
Mr. Bowden was retired from the CSX Transportation Corporation, where he was supervisor of the wheel shop, and he was a U.S. Army Air Corp veteran of World War II, stationed in England. He was a graduate of Fort Hill High School, a member of New Covenant United Methodist Church, Machinist Locale at the railroad, and Potomac Lodge 100 A.F. and A.M. A 32nd Degree Mason, Mr. Bowden was a member of the Scottish Rite, Ali Ghan Shrine Club, and the Shrine Motor Corp. He was also a member of the Cumberland Outdoor Club, American Legion, Fort Cumberland Post 13, and V.F.W. Henry Hart Post 1411.
Surviving are one sister, Ruth Painter, Cumberland; four nephews, Gary Wolford, Cumberland, John Painter and wife Sandy, New Lennox, Ill., Alfred Sidaway and wife Peg, Wiley Ford, W.Va., and Fred Wolford and wife Bonnie, Neb.; several great nieces and nephews; and several very good friends.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Monday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The Potomac Lodge 100 will conduct a Masonic service on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Jewell officiating.
Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap.
Military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Shrine Children's Hospital.
CARL E. WILLIAMS
CUMBERLAND -- Friends for Carl Elwood Williams will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m.
Joint funeral services for Mr. Williams and his sister Mary Dawson will be conducted at the funeral home, Monday at 1 p.m.

DAVID P. CAMPBELL
SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- David Preston Campbell, 3, of Mission Viejo, died Sunday, July 1, 2001, at Children's Hospital of San Diego.
Born Nov. 15, 1997, in Baltimore, he was the son of Catherine Barham and Daniel Campbell, and brother of Daniel Campbell III, all of Mission Viejo. He was the grandson of John E. Barham, Bel Air, (formerly of Cumberland), Carol Barham, Bel Air, and Arlean and Daniel Campbell, Potomac.
Survivors also include three aunts, Donna Barham Welsh and Stewart Friant, Pikesville, Susan Campbell, Germantown, Amy Campbell and Jim Decker, Pasadena; and three cousins, Megan McKenzie Welsh, Pikesville, and Robert and Shawn Collins, Pasadena.
A private viewing for the family was held Friday, July 6, 2001, from 9 to 10 a.m. at O'Connor Laguna Hills Mortuary, 25301 Alicia Parkway, Laguna Hills, Ca.
A memorial service attended by 300 family and friends was conducted at Mount of Olives Lutheran Church, Mission Viejo, Ca., on Friday, July 6, 2001, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Timothy Delkeskamp officiating.
At the parents request, his body was cremated.
David was a beautiful red-headed, blue-eyed boy who was blessed with a personality that touched many lives.
David had Leigh Syndrome, a severe mitochondrial disease.
