HALLIE T. LEIGHTON
Hallie T. Leighton, 87, Oakland, died Sunday, Sept. 5, 1999, at Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home, Oakland.
Born Dec. 5, 1911, near White Church, she was a daughter of the late Scott and Lucinda (Hamill) Harvey. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Floyd B. Leighton, on March 15, 1988; one step-grandson; one brother; and five sisters.
She was a homemaker and a former member of the Youghiogheny Glades Chapter DAR.
Surviving are one daughter, Carolyn Ann Flude, New Stanton, Pa.; one stepson, Floyd O. Leighton, Enterprise, Ala.; one stepdaughter, Margaret Wolf, Nokomis, Fla.; one sister, Dorthea Scanlon, Kingwood, W.Va.; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, where a service was conducted Wednesday, Sept. 8, with Pastor Robert Fisher officiating. Interment was in the Oakland Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials be directed to the Garrett County Historical Society.
IRVIN K. GEORG
Irvin Kenneth 'Doc' Georg, 76, Accident, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999, at the Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home, Oakland.
Born June 8, 1923, in Accident, he was a son of the late Charles and Anna (Miller) Georg. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine McCrobie and Mildred Liston.
He was a retired employee of the Maryland State Highway Administration, and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Surviving are his wife, Melda (Opel) Georg, whom he married Aug. 18, 1956; two sons, Dan Georg, Accident, and John Georg, Grantsville; four daughters, Geni Livengood, Sarasota, Fla., Margaret Brown, Rexburg, Idaho, Emily Georg, Accident, and Mary Georg, Pocatello, Idaho; three brothers, Ralph Georg, Accident, John Georg, Annandale, Va., and Donald Georg, Reynoldsburg, Ohio; one sister, Iola Schmidt, Bridgeville, Pa.; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, McHenry, where a service was conducted Wednesday, Sept. 8, with Jackson Hamrick officiating. Interment was in the Glade Cemetery.
PRENTISS H. PORTER
Prentiss H. Porter, 80, Port Republic, formerly of Oakland, died Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999, at his home.
He was born Oct. 3, 1918.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Nell (Bittinger) Porter; two sons, David Lansing Porter and John Edward Porter; three brothers, Donald Porter, Perryopolis, Pa., Ray Porter, Mtn. Lake Park, and Charles Robert Porter, Somerset, Ky.; two sisters, Elva Filippone, Washington, D.C., and Ann Mersing, Dumphries; and four grandchildren.
A service was conducted at Trinity United Methodist Church, Prince Frederick, on Wednesday, Sept. 1, with the Revs. James H. Farmer and John T. Farrell officiating. Interment was in Central Cemetery, Barstow.
The Rausch Funeral Home, Port Republic, was in charge of arrangements.
CATHERINE M. SPOERLEIN
Catherine Moon Spoerlein, 85, Columbia, died Monday, Sept. 6, 1999, at the St. Agnes Nursing Home, Ellicott City.
Born Aug. 1, 1914, in Wheeling, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Mark H. and Blanche (Chance) Moon.
She had been a resident of Garrett County for approximately 40 years.
She was a member of the Linden-Linthicum United Methodist Church, Clarksville. She was retired from Executive Housekeeping Services. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).
Survivors include two daughters, Louise (Spoerlein) Gosnell, Loch Lynn, and Elaine Spoerlein, Columbia; four grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.
A funeral service was conducted at 2 p.m. today, Thursday, at the Linden-Linthicum United Methodist Church in Clarksville.
A graveside service is planned at the Oakland Cemetery on Friday, Sept. 10, at 1 p.m. Friends and family are invited to the Gosnell residence, 103 Alderson Street, Loch Lynn, following the service.
The Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, is in charge of arrangements.
JAMES C. SCHROYER
James C. Schroyer, 77, Markleysburg, Pa., died Monday, Sept. 6, 1999, at the Henry Clay Villa, Markleysburg.
Born April 1, 1922, in Friendsville, he was a son of the late Clarence W. and Iva L. (VanSickle) Schroyer. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret (Sipe) Schroyer; his second wife, Edna C. (Stark) Schroyer; three brothers, Wade, Ralph, and Henry Schroyer; and two sisters, Daisy Smith and Jean Schroyer.
He was a veteran of World War II. He retired from Lucas Machine Shop, Cleveland, Ohio.
Survivors include one son, James Schroyer, Winchester, Va.; brothers and sisters, Ruth Kahl, Friendsville, William R. Schroyer, Greenville, Pa., Flora Humbert, Markleysburg, John Schroyer, Union City, Pa., Frances Fike, Andover, Ohio, and Lavonne Godec, Dorset, Ohio; three stepsons, Paul Schroyer, Yuma, Ariz., Charles Schroyer, Clarksville, and Thomas Schroyer, Grantsville; two grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and 11 step-great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Rodney S. Turner Funeral Home, Markleysburg, and at the Markleysburg Church of the Brethren, where a service was conducted earlier today, Sept. 9, with the Rev. Joe Brown and the Rev. Ron Thomas officiating. Interment was in the Blooming Rose Cemetery, Friendsville.
MARY L. CESNICK
Mary L. Cesnick, 92, Frostburg, formerly of Klondike, died Monday, Sept. 6, 1999, at the Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville.
Born Sept. 12, 1906, in Gilmore, she was a daughter of the late William W. and Elizabeth I. (Broadwater) Mansfield. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Stephen L. Cesnick, in 1987; two sisters; one brother; and two stepbrothers.
She was a homemaker, and a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Midland, and the Sodality.
Survivors include one daughter, Mildred C. 'Mamie' Patterson, Frostburg; one brother, Patrick V. Mansfield, Joppa; one granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, where a service was conducted earlier today, Sept. 9, with the Rev. Father Paul Byrnes officiating. Interment was in Frostburg Memorial Park.
MINNIE M. SNYDER
Minnie M. Snyder, 57, Glen Burnie, formerly of Oakland, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999, at the North Arundel General Hospital, Annapolis.
Born Oct. 20, 1941, in Maryland, she was a daughter of James C. and Mildred E. (Spence) Gernet. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick H. Snyder, in 1987.
She was a retired seamstress.
Survivors include one sister, June Schluter, Glen Burnie, and one brother, John Gernet, Glen Burnie.
An interment service for the cremains will be conducted at the Oakland Cemetery on Monday, Sept. 13, at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Richard Tepper officiating.
The family suggests memorials take the form of contributions to either the cancer or heart foundations.
The Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, is in charge of arrangements.
JESSIE M. FULK
Jessie M. Fulk, 95, Frederick, formerly of Oakland, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 1999, at the Citizens’ Nursing Home, Frederick.
Born Dec. 19, 1903, in Oakland, she was a daughter of the late W. George and Virginia E. (Buncutter) Sanders. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clarence E. 'Bum' Fulk, in 1961; two sons, William K. Fulk and Thomas G. Fulk; four sisters; one brother; and three grandchildren.
She was a member of the Oakland Church of Christ.
Surviving are one daughter, Nellie L. Graham, Frederick; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
A service will be conducted at the Gortner Union Church on Saturday, Sept. 11, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Dr. George G. Earle Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Gortner Cemetery.

JOHN C. SEESE, D.D.S.
John Charles Seese, D.D.S., 53, Kingwood, W.Va., died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999, at his home.
Born Feb. 1, 1946, in Kingwood, he was the son of the late Charles Edgar and Avis Lorene (Spiker) Seese.
He was a 1964 graduate of Kingwood High School and a 1971 graduate of the West Virginia University School of Dentistry in Morgantown. Following graduation, he practiced in Kingwood until opening a private practice in Oakland in January. He attended Rock Ministries Church in Morgantown.
Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Paula J. Seese; three sons, Jarrett B. Seese, Pittsburgh, Joshua A. Seese, Kingwood, and Jonathan C. Seese, Pittsburgh; and one sister, Connie Knight, Fairfax, Va.
Friends will be received at the James G. Lobb Funeral Home, Price Street, Kingwood, from 7 to 9 p.m. today, Thursday, and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday. A service will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, Sept. 11, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. David Chedester officiating. Interment will follow in the Shady Grove Cemetery, Brandonville, W.Va.

Alice Louise Kolb, 79, Accident, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born March 15, 1920, in Somerfield, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Tarlton and Ella (Leslie) Collier. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Glen Collier.
She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, M.S., the Cove, and was a homemaker. She was a former co-owner of the Kolb Country Store in Accident.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Richard J. Kolb, whom she married Nov. 14, 1943; two sons, Paul Kolb, Accident, and Fred Kolb, Charleston, W.Va.; and three grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, from 7 to 9 p.m. today, Thursday, and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday.
A service will be conducted at St. John’s Lutheran Church on Saturday, Sept. 11, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Douglas Kabell officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
