ARTHUR T. LANDAKER
CUMBERLAND -- Arthur "Duke" Thomas Landaker, 74, of Cumberland, died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at Memorial Hospital.
Born on Aug. 3, 1926, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late James William Landaker and Elsie Mae (Hose) Landaker. He was also preceded by his wife, Beverly Lou (Agee) Landaker in 1988.
Mr. Landaker was retired from the City of Cumberland Police Maintenance Department.
He is survived by his son, Thomas L. Landaker and wife Deborah, Cumberland; two grandchildren; a step-granddaughter; a great-grandson; six sisters; seven brothers; and a special friend, Virginia Cox.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Fred Iser officiating.
Interment will be in the Maryland Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap.
CHARLES W. WRIGHT
MCHENRY -- Technical Sergeant Charles William "Lightning" Wright, 82, of Pysell Road, McHenry, passed away Saturday, July 21, 2001, at Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville.
Born March 26, 1919, at Altamont, he was the son of the late Charles Isaac Wright and Carrie Mae (Lee) Wright. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Orland and Lyle Wright; and four sisters, Iona Rodeheaver, Grace Bateman, Leona Savage and Geraldine Rodeheaver.
Mr. Wright served in the U.S. Air Force as an airplane mechanic for 24 years, retiring in 1971. He served during World War II, Korean War, and the Vietnam Conflict. Since his retirement, Mr. Wright has been using his carpentry skills to bless many lives.
He is survived by one sister, Catherine E. Savage, McHenry; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 26722 Garrett Highway, Accident (McHenry), on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted in the funeral home on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Donald Matthews officiating.
Interment will be in Garrett County Memorial Gardens where military graveside rites will be observed.
CLARK H. SCHLOSSNAGLE
MOUNTAIN LAKE PARK -- Clark Howard Schlossnagle, 87, of 708 I Street, Mountain Lake Park, died Saturday, July 21, 2001, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born April 12, 1914, in Accident, he was a son of the late Howard and Maude (Spoerlein) Schlossnagle.
Mr. Schlossnagle was a member of Bear Creek Church of the Brethren and served in various offices in the church. A retire farmer, he was a member and past director of the Garrett County Farm Bureau and participated in the Farming for Better Living program.
Surviving are his wife, Ethel Virginia (Layman) Schlossnagle; three sons, Louis Schlossnagle, Bowdon, N.D., Roy Schlossnagle, Columbiana, Ohio, Ellis Scholssnagle, Frederick; two daughters, Darlene Almon, Bonita Springs, Fla., Linda Sanders, Oakland; five brothers, Raymond Scholsnagle, Friendsville, Marvin Schlosnagle, Rochester, Minn., Eugene Schlosnagle, Carlisle, Pa., John and Glenn Schlosnagle, both of Accident; five sisters, Mabel Graves, Coudersport, Gladys Broadwater, Louisville, Ky.; Eleanor Grove, Waynesboro, Marjorie Higley, Morris, Dorothy Moon, Watkinsville, Ga.; 22 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 26722 Garrett Highway, Accident (McHenry) Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Bear Creek Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Dr. Thomas Wegman officiating.
Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services.
Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may be directed to either Southern Rescue Squad or the American Cancer Society.
CARL E. WILLIAMS
CUMBERLAND -- Carl Elwood Williams, 78, of Cumberland, died Friday, July 20, 2001, at his residence.
Born Sept. 12, 1922, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late John Thomas and Mary Geneva (Masemore) Williams. He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine F. Williams, Aug. 28, 1982; one daughter, Mary Frances Williams Arnold, April 29, 2001; two sisters, Frances Williams Tubbs and Dorothy Williams Thomas; and one brother, John Thomas Williams.
Mr. Williams was retired from the Allegany Ballistics Laboratory, Cumberland, and he was a former Cumberland City policeman. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II and Battle of the Bulge. He was Protestant by faith and a member of the Fort Cumberland Lodge 211 A.F. and A.M.
Surviving are two step-sons, Gordon E. Winebrenner, V. Allen Winebrenner and wife Patricia, all of Cumberland; one sister, Mary E. Dawson, Cumberland; two brothers, David Franklin Williams, Owen Masemore Williams and wife Mildred, all of Cumberland; six grandchildren, Beth Eckard and husband Randy, Bedford, Pa., Laryn Pratt and husband William, Walkersville, Travis Robinette, Fort Riley, Kan., Susan Conlon, Vickie Griffiths and husband Wayne and Randall Winebrenner, all of Cumberland; four great-grandchildren, Ryan Eckard, Kylie Eckard, Will Pratt and Ethan Malec; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Cumberland, Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m.

EVELYN J. MORAN
FROSTBURG -- Evelyn J. "Polly" Moran, 64, of Frostburg, died Thursday, July 19, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Dec. 11, 1936, in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late James and Mabel (Gordon) Rankin. She was also predeceased by her husband, Ronald Moran, and two brothers, Frederick and John Rankin.
Surviving are one son, Paul Moran, Frostburg; two daughters, Sandra Gordon and husband Paul, and Donna Moran, all of Frostburg; four grandchildren, Ryan Ross, James Darr, Shannon and Stephanie Cadwallader; one brother, Robert Rankin and wife Nancy, Frostburg; and three sisters, Betty Albright and husband John, Loartown, Mary Folk and husband William, Frostburg, and Ida Fairgrieve, Cresaptown; and one sister-in-law, Betty Gracie, Frostburg.
Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 W. Main St., Frostburg, on Sunday from 12 noon to 2 p.m.

HARRY E. SHOBE
CUMBERLAND -- Harry E. Shobe, 93, of Holland St., Cumberland, died Thursday, July 19, 2001, at his home.
Born Jan. 31, 1908, in Purgitsville, W.Va., he was the son of the late Howard W. Shobe and Lucy B. (Cindy) Shobe. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Rosalie C. Shobe; a son, Howard A. Shobe; five brothers, Ellis Shobe, John Shobe, Ralph "Rink" Shobe, Bob Shobe and Bill Shobe; and two sisters, Maxine Dean and Edrie Evans.
Mr. Shobe worked for Wood Products Lumber Mill. He also worked as an automobile salesman during the depression, and was a crewman on a yacht. He also worked as a route salesman for the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company, was a Texaco distributor of petroleum products and owned and operated a service station in South Cumberland; he was a member of Centre Street United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Men's Club and the Wesleyan Men's Bible Class, East Gate Lodge 216 A.F. and A.M., the Scottish Rite Bodies of Cumberland, Ali Ghan Shrine Temple, Algonquin Forest 140, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Knight of Pythias, Past Patron of McKinley Chapter 12, Order of the Eastern Star, Past Matrons and Past Patrons Association of Western Maryland and the South Cumberland Business Men's Association.
He is survived by one son, Harry R. Shobe and wife Mary, Houston, Texas; one brother, Jefferson P. Shobe, Winchester, Va.; six grandchildren, Scott R. Shobe and wife Jessica, Sugar Land, Brett J. Shobe, Houston, Stacey E. Shobe, Austin, Anthony H. Shobe and wife Helen, Herndon, Bethany Shobe, Rixeyville, and Eric Shobe, Vienna; two great-grandchildren, Anthony T. Shobe and Shayne N. Shobe.
Friends will be received at the Kight Funeral Home, 309-311 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 5 to 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, 10 a.m. with the Rev. Lloyd B. McCanna and the Rev. William H. Bice officiating.
Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.

McKinley Chapter 12, Order of the Eastern Star will hold memorial services at the funeral home on Sunday, 7:30 p.m.
The family has requested that contributions take the form of donations to Centre Street United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society, Allegany-Garrett Counties.
