RAYMOND J. BRIDGES
CUMBERLAND -- Raymond Joseph Bridges, 71, of Cumberland, died Tuesday, July 14, 2001, at the Martinsburg VA Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born on March 28, 1930, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Raymond and Leota (Eirich) Bridges. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Calvin Bridges.
Mr. Bridges was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion Post 13, VFW #1411, Eagles #245, and the Goodfellowship Club. He was Catholic by faith.
Surviving are his stepmother, Edith Bridges, Cumberland; two brothers, Wesley A. Bridges and wife Ilene, Cumberland, and Pat Bridges and wife Debbie, Cumberland; four sisters, Donna Eakon, Jackie Lewis and Linda Painter, all of Cumberland, and Donna Dodrill, Wiley Ford, W.Va.; one niece, Vickie Brown and husband Michael, New Jersey; one nephew, Rick Bridges and wife Robyn, Westminster; and several more nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 10 a.m. with the Father Jerome Dunn, O.F.M., Cap., officiating.
Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap, Flintstone. Military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
ANDREW J. BENNETT
CUMBERLAND -- Friends for Andrew J. Bennett will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake service will be conducted Thursday at 8 p.m.
At Mr. Bennett's request, his body will be cremated.
Inurnment will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
JESSE D. ISNER
FORT ASHBY, W.Va. -- Jesse Darl Isner, 92, of Dawn View Nursing Center, formerly of Short Gap, died Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at the nursing center.
Born on Oct. 16, 1908, in Elkins, he was the son of the late Wade Thomas and Daisy Belle (Tallman) Isner. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Arline (Bean) Isner on May 8, 1991, after 60 years of marriage; eight brothers; and one sister.
Mr. Isner was retired from the Celanese Corporation, Cumberland. He was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, Short Gap Senior Citizens, Short Gap Hunt Club, and the Lost Chord Club of Sacred Heart Hospital. He was blessed with many skills and hobbies and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Surviving are four daughters, Eileen Virginia Siple and husband Arthur, Fort Ashby, Naomi Charlotte Broome and husband Carroll, Hagerstown, Md., Norma Jean Dayton and husband Calvin, Short Gap, Carolyn Faye Bulger and husband Donald, Cumberland; three sons, Kenneth Wayne Isner and wife Eleanor, Harrisonburg, Va., the Rev. Vernon Darl Isner and wife Gail, Chambersburg, Pa., Darell Lynn Isner, Front Royal, Va.; one sister, Merle Emberline, Delaware; one half-brother, E. Edward Isner, California; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Paul Mateer officiating. Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale, Md.
Pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be great-grandsons.
ARTHUR T. LANDAKER
CUMBERLAND -- Arthur "Duke" Thomas Landaker, 74, of Cumberland, died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at the Special Care Unit of Memorial Hospital.
Born on Aug. 3, 1926, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late James William Landaker and Elsie Mae (Hose) Landaker. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Lou (Agee) Landaker in 1988.
Mr. Landaker was retired from the City of Cumberland Police Maintenance Department. He was also employed by National Jet, Celanese Fibers Corporation of America and Habeeb Flowers. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II with the Philippine and Japanese Occupational Forces and was a member of the Fort Cumberland Post #13 American Legion and the Goodfellowship Club.
He is survived by a son, Thomas L. Landaker and wife Deborah, Cumberland; a grandson, Thomas L. Landaker II, Norfolk, Va.; a granddaughter, Krista E. Hollaway and husband Jeremy, Honolulu, Hawaii; a step-granddaughter, Desiree S. Keller, Cumberland; a great-grandson, Donovan I. Hollaway, Honolulu; six sisters; seven brothers; and a special friend, Virginia Cox, Shanks, W.Va., and her family, to whom he was a father and grandfather figure.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Fred Iser officiating.
Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap. Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
HAROLD L. JOLLEY
CUMBERLAND -- Harold Lee Jolley, 73, of Cumberland, died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at Memorial Hospital.
Born on Jan. 18, 1928, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Arthur and Sophia (Bierman) Jolley. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Audrey Jolley.
Mr. Jolley was retired from the PPG Industries, Cumberland, working out of the Local #489. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II, and a member of Davis Memorial United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mildred G. Jolley; one son, Gene Arthur Jolley and wife Mary, Monroe, Mich.; one daughter, Barbara Gornall and husband Richard, Cumberland; one sister, Mildred Price, Cumberland; four grandchildren, Craig Jolley, Terry Jolley, Sarah Gornall, David Gornall; two step-grandsons, Brian Gornall, Justin Gornall and wife Stephanie; and two great-grandchildren, Brenden Gornall and Emma Gornall.
At Mr. Jolley's request, his body was cremated. Graveside services will be private.
Inurnment will be in Davis Memorial Cemetery.
VIRGINIA L. BARNHART
CUMBERLAND -- Virginia L. Barnhart, 65, of the Lions Manor Nursing Home, died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born on July 1, 1936, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Walter and Elva Laveda (Eckshaw) Barnhart. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Helen Grace Michael; and one brother, Joseph William Barnhart.
Miss Barnhart attended Friends Aware.
Surviving are one brother, James E. "Barney" Barnhart and wife Veron, Cumberland; and six nieces, Cathy Kinsman and husband Mark, Short Gap, W.Va., Clementine Henderson and husband John, Cumberland, Christine Farris and husband Jim, Cumberland, Linda Proud and husband Ronnie, LaVale, Angela Struntz, Cumberland, and Patricia Volk and husband Ed, Seattle, Wash. Also surviving are several other nieces and nephews from the west coast.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 12 p.m. with the Rev. Charles A. Erzkus officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
HERMAN A. RODERICK
PIEDMONT, W.Va. -- Herman A. "Jim" Roderick, 74, of 64 W. Hampshire St., Piedmont, died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at his home.
Born on June 20, 1927, in McCoole, Md., he was the son of the late Vernon and Myrtle (Hodges) Roderick. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Zella Davis and Frances Biddle.
"Jim" retired from Westvaco's Luke Mill with 41 years of service. He was a United States Army veteran, having served in Japan after World War II. He was a member of Kelly Mansfield Post #52 American Legion, Piedmont, a member of Queens Point V.F.W. #6775, McCoole, Md., member of Davis Lodge #51 AF & AM, and a member of the Piedmont Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Elsie M. (Zimmerman) Roderick; a son, James Roderick and daughter-in-law, Jane; granddaughters, Neena and Lucy of LaVale, Md.; a daughter, Margie Lynch and son-in-law, Al; grandchildren, Victoria, Brian and Al III, of Scott Depot; a brother, Bennett Roderick of Keyser; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, Md., on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Paul Smith officiating.
Interment with Masonic graveside and military honors will be accorded at Philos Cemetery, Westernport.
