LUCILLE L. MOSER
CUMBERLAND -- Lucille Ley Moser, 88, of Cumberland, died Monday, July 16. 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born March 9, 1913, in Akron, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Leo H. Ley Sr. and Bertha (Keller) Ley. She was preceded in death by one brother, Leo H. Ley Jr.
Mrs. Moser was a medical secretary with the Baltimore City Hospitals, where she had retired in 1975. She was a 1931 graduate of Ursuline Academy, a member f SS Peter Paul Catholic Church, Cumberland and Our Lady of Grace Church, Romney, W.Va. She and her husband moved to Romney in 1978, where she was very active with Our Lady of Grace Church, various clubs and charities, until she moved back to Cumberland in 2000.
Surviving are her husband, Forrest Mithcell Moser; two sons, Richard Moser Sr., Locust Grove, Va., and Thomas Moser, Woodbine; four grandchildren, Richard Moser Jr., Middle River, Christopher Moser, Towson, Grant Moser, New York City, and Beth Moser, Hampstead; four sisters, Alberta Robinson, Cumberland, Irene Grabenstein, Cumberland, Mary Catherine Kennedy, Daytona Beach, Fla., Dorothy Altice, Cumberland; one brother, Robert Ley, Marietta, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., Cresaptown, Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A Christian Wake service will be conducted Wednesday at 8:45 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at SS Peter Paul Catholic Church on Thursday at 10 a.m. with Father Senan Glass, O.F.M., Cap. as celebrant.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
The family requests contributions be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
CHRISTOPHER S. SMITH
NAGS HEAD, N.C. -- Christopher Sean Smith, 34, of 210 W. Blue Jay St., Nags Head, died suddenly at his home, Saturday, July 14, 2001.
Born Feb. 9, 1967, in Cumberland, he was the son of James M. Smith and Susan S. (Mackert) Smith, LaVale. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Joseph Edward and Margaret "Peggy" (Secrist) Mackert and his paternal grandparents, Sylvester "Smitty" and Eula (Baugher) Smith.
Mr. Smith was a graduate of Allegany High School, class of 1985, graduate of the Institute of Art, Pittsburgh, Pa. Chris' love for the ocean allowed him to travel extensively for A.B.K. Sports, teaching wind and sail surfing. He later settled in Nags Head, where he designed and built sail boarding equipment. He was also a partner in Flying Colors Contracting Company.
Besides his parents he is survived by a brother, Matthew J. Smith, owner of Cumberland Pharmaceutical Company and Pidge, Inc., Cumberland; he is also survived by aunts and uncles, Michael and Cindy Mackert. Leesburg, Va., Jack and Adrian Hopkins, Kalamazoo, Mich., Ray and Peggy-Jo Campbell, Allentown, Mark Mackert and Toni Fitch, Cleveland, Ohio, Debra and Pat Flanigan, Fairfax, Va., Pat and Ronnie Smith, Ridgeley, W.Va.; and numerous great aunts, uncles and cousins.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m.
A celebration of his life will be conducted Wednesday at the funeral Home, 8 p.m.
WALTER L. CRABTREE
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- Walter Lewis "Jack" Crabtree, 69, of 513 Kentucky Ave., Martinsburg, died Monday, July 16, 2001, at Newton D. Baker Veterans Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born Sept. 10, 1931, in Oldtown he was the son of the late Claude Russell Crabtree and Carrie Pauline (Alderton) Crabtree. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and James Crabtree and four sisters, Pauline Fox, Rose Lewis, Helen Walters and Beulah Davis.
Mr. Crabtree was retired from Orr's Orchard, Martinsburg. He was an U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Rose Lee (Allen) Crabtree; a son, Walter E. Crabtree and wife Cindy, Romney; a daughter, Reginia Miller and husband William, Martinsburg; a brother, Russell Crabtree and wife Juanita, Oldtown; three sisters, Nellie Radar and husband Melvin, Oldtown, JoAnn Allen and husband Jearald, Cumberland and Maxine Crabtree and special friend Don Teets, Oldtown; seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Thursday, 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Joe Dinicola officiating.
Interment will be in Maryland Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap.
Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by The Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
DAVID H. KENNEY
ELLERSLIE -- David Harold Kenney, 45, of Ellerslie, died Saturday, July 14, 2001, as a result of an accident.
Born on Oct. 8, 1955, in Baltimore, he was the son of David Charles Kenney and stepmother, Joan Kenney, Baltimore, and Patricia Joanne (Miller) Hoopert and stepfather, Jerry Hoopert, Reedsville, W.Va. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Daisy S. Stickley; and a good friend, Steve Clem.
Mr. Kenney was retired from the CSX Railroad and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of the Barrelville Outdoor Club. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and his hobby was taxidermy.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Theresa J. Kenney; one daughter, Ashley Lynn Kenney and fiancé, R. Jason Hamilton and future grandchild; one son, Lucas Lee Kenney; two sisters, Denise White, Baltimore, and Tina Michele Hamman and husband Ben, Slanesville, W.Va.; two brothers, Edmund Walter Cross and fiancee, Colleen Kazmarek, Baltimore, and Greg Kenney, Baltimore; special friend, Diane Dixon Hensel; best friends, Gary Sturtz, Jimmy Smith, Chuck Smith and Les Kennell; mother-in-law, Lois A. Hulings; three sisters-in-law, Linda, Sherry and Janice; and a number of nieces and nephews. A special thanks to Richard and Quylia Hamilton for all their help in our time of need.
Graveside services will be conducted at the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Gene Cecil officiating.

THE REV. ALBERT LEPLEY
CUMBERLAND -- The Rev. Albert "Lester" Lepley, 90, of the Cumberland Nursing Center, formerly of Old Towne Manor Apartments, died Saturday, July 14, 2001, at Memorial Hospital.
Born on Jan. 16, 1911, in West Virginia, he was the son of the late Dalton and Cora Lepley. He was also preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
The Rev. Lepley was a retired Nazarene Minister, serving churches in Maryland, West Virginia and Virginia. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, Cumberland, and a U.S. Army veteran. He attended the Trevecca Nazarene Bible College in Tennessee.
Surviving are his wife of 70 years, Rhea M. Lepley; two daughters, Elizabeth Gordon and husband George, Cumberland, and Rhea Mitzel and husband Staff Sgt. Marty, Fredericksburg, Va.; two sisters, Helen Beall, and Ellen Keel, both of Geneva, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Gary Barkley officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Honorary pallbearers will be two grandsons, Marty Mitzel Jr. and Joshua Mitzel. Pallbearers will be John Kimble, Faye Elder, Kay Elder, Harold Knotts, Buck Jacobs and Jim Kasecamp.
DOROTHY D. STEPHEN
KEYSER, W.Va. -- Dorothy Dodd Stephen, 79, a resident of Moran Manor Care Center, Westernport, and formerly of 215 'D' Street, Keyser, died on Saturday, July 14, 2001, at the nursing home.
Born on Sept. 5, 1921, in Keyser, she was the daughter of the late Fred Hamill and Sarah Edith (Dodd) Hamill.
Mrs. Stephen was a graduate of Keyser High School, Potomac State College and West Virginia University with a BM in Public School Music and high school certification in English and Social Studies. She was a Music Resource Teacher in Allegany County, Maryland, for 29 years. She was a member of the Keyser Presbyterian Church, where she was Circle Bible Teacher and Handbell Choir, a 50-year member of Alkire Chapter #10, OES, American Association of University Women, Charter member and organizer of Highland Arts Unlimited, volunteer for Family Crisis Center, American Field Service, and former Girl Scout leader in every level. She was the PPG Community Service Award recipient for 1965.
Surviving are her five children: Katharine Ann Campbell of Medford, Ore., John Stephen Jr. of Charleston, W.Va., Dorothy Lynn Taylor of Cumberland, Md., Aleta Jean Stephen of Redding, Conn., and Nancy Stephen of Monroe, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Friends will be received at the Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser, on Monday, July 16, 2001, from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Keyser Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Gary S. Eller officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to services.
Interment will be in Queens Point Cemetery, Keyser.
