IRVIN S. MANGES
CUMBERLAND -- Irvin Seth Manges, 73, of 20 Homestead Ave., Cumberland, died Friday, July 13, 2001, at Western Maryland Health System, Sacred Heart Campus.
Born on June 16, 1928, in Cumberland, he was the son of Irene Elsie (Athey) Manges, Cumberland, and the late Cobern Evans Manges.
Mr. Manges was a retired school teacher from Allegany High School. He received his bachelor degree from Shepherd College and his masters degree from James Madison University. A member of St. John's Lutheran Church, a life member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter #2, and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, where he was awarded a Purple Heart.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Betty Lee (Rider) Manges; two sons, Jeffrey A. Manges, Cumberland, and Mark I. Manges, Cresaptown; a granddaughter, Melissa A. Manges, Cresaptown; two brothers, James W. Manges and wife Margaret, LaVale, and William E. Manges, Cumberland.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Monday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Mark C. Dill officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
JAMES E. TRUKA
CUMBERLAND -- James Edward Truka, 84, of 1814 Bedford St., Cumberland, died Thursday, July 12, 2001, at the Western Maryland Health System, Sacred Heart Campus.
Born on March 9, 1917, in Bucyrus, Ohio, he was the son of the late Edward Wentz Truka and Martha (Witter) Truka. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Myra L. (Rutter) Truka on Aug. 20, 1998; and four brothers, John W., Thomas F., Philip H. and Edward L. Truka.
Mr. Truka was retired in 1981, from the Celanese Fibers Corporation of America, where he was the senior chemical engineer for more than 35 years. During his career with Celanese, he served as production supervisor, process engineering, quality control, new product development, economic evaluations and process control problems. Mr. Truka's background in education began as a premed student at Drake University, Kent State University and chemical engineering and chemistry of explosives from Ohio State University. Following special training in explosive chemistry, Mr. Truka was employed by Sanders and Porter Construction, Operating Engineers and Management Consultants at the Allowed Ordnance Plant in Joliet, Ill., a loading and assembly plant for U.S. Army Artillery, mine and bomb munitions. He served as production superintendent as well as industry integration chairman for the U.S. Army Ordnance Division to standardize quality control and operating procedures at all United States plants. He was a former member of American Chemical Society, American Institute of Chemical Engineers, American Society of Quality Control, Army Ordnance Association, American Ordnance Association, Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, and The Cumberland Country Club.
Surviving are two brothers, David J. Truka, Bucyrus, and Paul L. Truka, Wilmington, Del.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Sunday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Sunday at 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home with the Father Fred Cutajar officiating.
Interment and graveside services will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Bucyrus, on Tuesday at 10 a.m.
LOUISE F. MARTIN
CUMBERLAND -- Louise F. Martin, 81, of Shade's Lane, Cumberland, died Wednesday, July 11, 2001, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 23, 1919, in Beans Cove, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Pearl (Ruby) Donahue. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Dougherty and three brothers, Bernard Donahe, Robert Donahue, and William Donahue.
Mrs. Martin was a homemaker and a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the church sodality.
Surviving are her husband of 60 years, Ralph C. Martin; one daughter, Betty Jane Rice and husband Roger L., Hagerstown; three sons, Raymond D. Martin and wife Diana, Ronald S. Martin and wife Robin, all of Cumberland, Thomas E. Martin and wife Joanny, Ridgeley, W.Va.; one sister, Evelyn Borgman, Columbia; three brothers, Louis Donahue, Ralph "Jake" Donahue, both of Cumberland, Joseph Donahue, Corriganville; nine grandchildren, Brenda Talbert and husband Eddie, Tracy Rice, Gregory Rice and fiancee Maria, Jeffrey Martin, Christopher Martin, Shane Martin, Amber Martin, Bradley Martin, and Brison Martin; and one great-granddaughter, Emily Talbert.
Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virgina Ave., Cumberland, Friday from 2 t o 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A Christian Wake service will be conducted Friday at 4 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Saturday at 10 a.m. with Msgr. Thomas R. Bevan as celebrant.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Bedford Road, Cumberland.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Arthritis Foundation.
PATRICIA W. ADAMS
CONWAY, S.C. -- Patricia Welsh Adams, 46, Conway, died June 17, 2001, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.
She was born Oct. 21, 1954, a daughter of the late John Louth Welsh, formerly of Westernport, and the late Edna Broderick Welsh, formerly of Lonaconing.
She was owner of Sew Many Common Threads and was a member of Strand Stitchers and Smockers.
She was a Carolina Forest Booster Club member and a Eucharistic minister and lector at St. James Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband, Rusty Adams; a son, Jacob Adams, Atlanta, Ga.; a daughter, Megan L. Adams, Conway; three brothers, John L. Welsh II, Lawrenceville, Ga.; and William J. Welsh and Timothy M. Welsh, both of Augusta, Ga.; three sisters, Maureen Windmeyer, Laurinburg, N.C.; Kathleen W. Barnes, Papillion, Neb.; and Sharon W. Boyd, Denver City, Texas; 26 nieces and nephews; and 14 great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at St. James Catholic Church with the Revs. Rick LaBrecque, Monsignor Chet Moczydlowski, Henry Burke and Charles Snopek officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery.

HYNDMAN, Pa. -- Thomas W. "Tommy" Poole, 69, formerly of 201 Offutt St., Cumberland, died Saturday, July 7, 2001.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 14, 2001, at Cumberland Seventh-day Adventist Church, 800 Hill Top Drive, at 9:30 a.m.
MARTHA A. STAUP MILLER
LONACONING -- Martha Ann Staup Miller, 65, of 3 Watercliffe St., Lonaconing, died July 12, 2001, at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore.
Born at Lonaconing, May 9, 1936, a daughter of the late Roland and Grace (Elliott) Staup. She was preceded in death by one sister, Jean Staup Goynes and one brother, Robert Staup.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lonaconing. She was editor of the news letter Reflections from the Cross of the church. She was a member of the adult fellowship of the church. She was a member of Thursday Night Card Club of Lonaconing. One of her special hobbies was taking walks around Dan's Mountain State Park, Lonaconing.
Surviving are her husband Robert W. Miller; two daughters, Debra Ann Miller of Eldersburg, and Cynthia Miller Pellegrino and husband Michael of Hagerstown; one son, Mark Robert Miller of Conowingo; one sister, Gretchen Staup Bobo of Lonaconing; one brother, Fr. Thomas P. Staup, Frederick; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., 8 E. Main St., Lonaconing on Saturday, July 14, 2001, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A funeral service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 14 Church St., Lonaconing, with the Rev. Richard Mortimore, Fr. Thomas P. Staup, and the Rev. Bernadette M. Ross officiating.
Interment is in Frostburg Memorial Park, Frostburg.
The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to service.

ELK GARDEN, W.Va. -- Jared G. "Jerry" Paugh, 62, of Route 1, Elk Garden, died Wednesday, July 11, 2001, at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser.
Born in Barnum, on Oct. 13, 1938, he is the son of Lloyd "Pap" and Beatrice "Tag" (Bray) Paugh, Barnum.
Mr. Paugh was a member of the United Mine Workers and an avid hunter and fisherman.
Besides his parents he is survived by his loving wife, Ellen Elaine (Paugh); three daughters, Margie Reel and husband Jim, Elk Garden, Mischele Ervin and fiancé' Chip, Burlington, Marsha Carpenter and husband Brit, Elk Garden; five sons, Darius "Moe" Paugh and wife Lori, Springfield, Richard Paugh and wife Kathy, Mark Paugh and wife Margaret, Ronnie Paugh and wife Angie, all of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Jared Paugh, Elk Garden; three brothers, Gary Paugh, Swanton, Md., Terry Paugh, Elk Garden, and Larry Paugh, Barnum, 18 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, Saturday from 2 t o4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Donald Marple officiating.
Interment will be in Tasker Cemetery, Cross.
