FROSTBURG -- Erma Jean Peretti, 72, of Albert Avenue, Frostburg, died Sunday, July 1, 2001, at her residence after a lengthy illness.
The family will receive friends at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, one hour prior to the Mass.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael's Church on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Father Doug Kenney, Baltimore, as celebrant. Interment will be in the St. Michael's Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Marty Connor, Sam Lamanna, Ed Crowe, Eric Ruffo, Billy Williams and Kenny Peretti.
ANNA K. LANNON
ELLICOTT CITY -- Anna Katherine (Dailey) Lannon died Friday, June 29, 2001, at St. Agnes Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Ellicott City.
She was born in Rowlesburg, W.Va., on June 19, 1908. Before her marriage, she worked as a clerk in the Rowlesburg A&P Grocery Store. She was also a professional seamstress and continued to sew until her death. She and her husband lived most of their married
years in Cumberland.
She was predeceased by her husband, Edgar A. Lannon, who died on Nov. 24, 1981; and by her parents, Mary Ellen and Thomas Dailey.
She is also survived by her only child, Mary Ellen Marvin; two grandsons, Michael Marvin and Todd Marvin and wife Michelle; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
Interment will be in Cumberland, at a later date.
MELVIN L. COOK
KEYSER, W.Va. -- Melvin L. Cook, 73, of 49 C St., Keyser, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at the Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser.
Born Feb. 5, 1928, in Keyser, he was a son of the late Faye Elizabeth (Cook) Rogers. He also was preceded in death by a half brother, Frederick E. "George" Rogers.
Mr. Cook was retired as a sheeter operator in the finishing department at the Westvaco Luke Mill with 32 years of service. Prior to his employment with Westvaco, he was employed with the Western Maryland and B&O Railroads. He was a member of the Emmanuel Pentecostal Holiness Assembly, Keyser, and Local 676, United Paperworkers Union.
A lifelong musician, Mr. Cook was an avid banjo, guitar, mandolin and fiddle player. In the 1960s, he appeared on television on the Don Reno and Red Smiley Show and was part of a local group called "Don, Mel and the Bluegrass Pals." He also was a devoted fan and collector of western movies, but his greatest love in life was his family and his Lord.
Surviving are his wife of nearly 50 years, Lavine C. (Blizzard) Cook; two sons, Steven L. Cook and wife, Carolyn, Kingsport, Tenn.; Dennis M. Cook and wife, Lisa, Keyser; two daughters, Barbara C. Miller and husband, Gary, Apex, N.C.; Pamela A. Cook, Keyser; three half brothers, Kenneth Rogers and wife, Martha, Falls Church, Va.; Dalton Rogers and wife, Chearyl, Keyser; Carson Rogers and wife, Linda, Keyser; two half sisters, Wilma Alt, Keyser; Shirley Gattens and husband, Chuck, Keyser; and six grandchildren, Julie Pierson, Jason and Joshua Cook, Monica and Sarah Miller and Dustin Lee Cook.
Friends will be received at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Emmanuel Pentecostal Holiness Assembly, Keyser, on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Earl N. Williams officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.

LLOYD R. SEARS
KEYSER, W.Va. -- Lloyd R. Sears, 87, of 1440 Chandell St., Keyser, formerly of Ridgeville, died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at the Heartland of Keyser Nursing Home where he had been a resident for 13 months.
Born April 11, 1914, in Headsville, he was a son of the late Oscar Wilson and Margaret Gertrude (Turner) Sears. He also was preceded in death by two sons, Arnold Larkin Sears in 1951 and Russell Ray Sears in 1990; three brothers, one sister and one great-grandson. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Mr. Sears was retired as a tractor operator with the B&O Railroad with 37 years of service. He was a member of the Willow Dale Chapel, Knobley Road, Keyser. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Helen Virginia (Kelley) Sears; three daughters, Betty Riggleman and husband, Raymond, Romney; Jean Amtower and husband, Bill, Keyser; Pat Liller and husband, Jim, Laureldale; 11 grandchildren, Kenny Umstot and wife, Pam, New Creek; Harold Riggleman and wife, Dixie, Burlington; Dale Riggleman, Winchester, Va.; Mary Ann Tekieli and husband, Gary, Fairmont; Larry Riggleman and wife, Pam, Keyser; Sheila Riggleman, Cumberland, Md.; Randy Amtower and wife, Sue, Keyser; Nancy Johnson and husband, Hetzel, New Creek; Mike Liller and wife, Donna, Lillington, N.C.; Donnie Liller and fiancee, Dawn Williams, Keyser; Cody Duckworth, Keyser; 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Donald Leatherman and Mr. Cecil Rohrbaugh officiating. Interment will be in the Queen's Point Cemetery, Keyser.
The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the donor's favorite charity.
Pallbearers will be Kenny Umstot, Randy Amtower, Mike Liller, Larry Riggleman, Donnie Liller and Harold Riggleman.
RUTH J. ARBACHASKY
FORT ASHBY, W.Va. -- Ruth J. Hott Arbachasky, 78, of Fort Ashby, died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at her residence.
Born April 6, 1923, in Romney, she was the daughter of the late Aaron Burr Hott and Anna Blaine Pownell Hott. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony John Arbachasky and one daughter, Patricia Sharon Wotring.
Mrs. Arbachasky was a homemaker and a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Fort Ashby.
Surviving are one son, Timothy F. Arbachasky, at home; one sister, Zannah "Marguerite" Tidwell, Cumberland, Md.; one brother, Eugene Hott, Keymar, Md.; one granddaughter, Lisa Hyder and husband, Damon, Columbus, Ohio; two great-grandchildren, McKenzie and Baylee; one niece, Ramona Campbell, Willamsburg, Va.; and a number of other nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Frank R. Hyder officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Jim Myers, Bruce Myers, Doug Wolford, Jack Welch, Fred Siple and Lou Leatherman.
DEVON R. MENGES
CUMBERLAND -- Devon "Doady" Roy Menges, 81, of 606 Avondale Ave., Cumberland, died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at his home.
Born Nov. 3, 1919, in Hyndman, Pa., he was the son of the late Royal Clay Menges and Gertrude Geanette (Tipton) Menges. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia N. (Boyd) Menges on Oct. 11, 1997.
Mr. Menges was a retired commercial representative for C&P Telephone Co. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the New Covenant United Methodist Church and a former member of the Kingsley United Methodist Church where he was very active in their many activities and served many years as head usher. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He also was a member Cumberland Elks Lodge 63, Potomac Lodge 100 A.F.&A.M. and Scottish Rite.
As ideal parents, Doady and his wife were always involved with the many activities in which their daughters and grandchildren were involved, nor did they ever miss an event in which they were participating. Following his retirement, Doady and his wife, Georgia, enjoyed traveling by bus across the United States to include trips to Alaska and Hawaii. He also enjoyed many hours in his workshop while continuing his interest in the many sports he played throughout his life. In his early years, he was known for his athletic skills in football, baseball, and track and field activities and later in life he enjoyed tennis, bowling and golf as well as hunting and fishing.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Surviving are two daughters, Judith Menges and her fiancé, John Appel, Cumberland; Starr Cheney and husband, Jack, Cumberland; two grandchildren, Jason T. Cheney, M.D., and wife, Christine P. Cheney, Ph.D., Louisville, Ky.; Jantia R. Barnhart and husband, Chris, Thurmont; a great-granddaughter, Carinne J. Cheney, Louisville; brother-in-law, Fred A. Boyd and wife, Geny, Bedford, Pa.; and numerous nieces and nephews who were especially close to their uncle.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the New Covenant United Methodist Church on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Richard Jewell officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Mr. Menges will be taken to the church one hour prior to services.
Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
The Cumberland Elks Lodge will conduct a memorial service at the funeral home on Thursday at 7 p.m.
The family requests that memorials be made to the New Covenant United Methodist Church, 1707 Frederick St., Cumberland, MD 21502.
Honorary pallbearers will be Maurice "Reese" Early, Fred "Skip" Squires, Frank Pannone, Gene Sewell, Jim "Bud" Thomas, Dallas Hite and Fred Boyd.
Pallbearers will be Jason T. Cheney, Christopher A. Barnhart, Larry Gourley, Don T. Leap, Gary Boyd and Robert "Chris" Gourley.
