CLARENCE R. THOMPSON
CUMBERLAND -- Clarence Ralph Thompson, 88, of 14404 Old Hancock Road, Cumberland, died Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at the Western Maryland Health System's Memorial Campus.
Born on May 10, 1913, in Riverton, W.Va., he was the son of the late Clay Henry Thompson and Dora (Lambert) Thompson. He was also preceded in death by a son, Richard Thompson.
Mr. Thompson was a retired machinist helper for the Celanese Fibers Corporation of America.
He is survived by his wife, Florence Daisy (Mowen) Thompson; a daughter, Betty Smith, Hagerstown; a brother, Homer Thompson, Chambersburg, Pa.; two grandsons, Richard Thompson, Atlanta, Ga., and Ronald Thompson, Eastern Shore; and a special nephew, Elmer Hornbrook, Cumberland.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 12 noon with the Rev. Robert Nair and Ron Higson officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
C. WILLIAM THUSS
ABSECON, N.J. -- C. William Thuss, 68, formerly of Cumberland, Md., and Baltimore, Md., and now residing in Absecon, died at the home of his sister, Barbara A. Miller, Bayview Drive, Absecon, on Saturday, June 23, 2001.
Born on April 14, 1933, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Ralph J. Thuss Sr. and Virginia C. (House) Thuss. His wife, Betty I. (Collins) Thuss, died on Jan. 13, 1986. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Ralph J. Thuss Jr.
Mr. Thuss was a Fiscal Specialist with the Maryland State Division of Corrections at Jessup, Md., where he retired in 1996. He was an Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.
Besides his sister, he is survived by one son, Bryan W. Thuss and wife Cathy, Pocomoke City, Md.; two grandchildren, Nickolas B. Thuss and Sarah A. Thuss; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Kight Funeral Home, 309-311 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Prayer services will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 10 a.m. with Father Milton Hipsley officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
CHARLES M. LIVENGOOD
GRANTSVILLE -- Charles M. Livengood, 75, of 4418 Chestnut Ridge Road, Grantsville, died Monday at his residence.
Born on May 24, 1926, in Addison, Pa., he was the son of the late Maurice Livengood and Addie Elizebedh (Bowser) Livengood.
Mr. Livengood was retired from Penn Tables.
Surviving are his wife, Arlene (Bittinger) Livengood; four sons, David, Wayne, Kenneth and Scott, all of Grantsville; and four grandchildren. Mr. Livengood also has a brother, Bud Livengood of Meyersdale, Pa.
At Mr. Livengood's request, his body was cremated. The Hafer Funeral Homes, P.A., is in charge of the arrangements.
A Memorial Service will be conducted in the Cherry Grove Brethren Church on Friday, June 29, 2001, at 4:30 p.m. with the Rev. Henry Elsen officiating.

ALETHYA C. DICKEN
BOWLING GREEN -- Alethya Caroline "Sis" (Lease) Dicken, 71, of Bowling Green, died Monday, June 25, 2001, at the Sacred Heart Hospital Special Care Unit.
Born on June 10, 1930, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Bessie (Hart) Lease. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Elmer "Jake" Lease.
Mrs. Dicken had been a cook at Shehee's, Warner's, and Howard Johnson's restaurants. She was a member of Lighthouse of Hope Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, William Louis Dicken; three daughters, Deborah Almasy and husband Daniel, Coraopolis, Pa., Cindy Rice and fiancé Kevin, and Luann Stottlemyer and husband Thomas, Williamsport; one son, Bill Dicken and wife Cathy, Cresaptown; four brothers, James Lease, Carl Lease, William Lease and John Lease; three sisters, Alice Faye VanDine, Cecelia Hanlin and Vicki McDowell; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral service will be conducted at the Lighthouse of Hope Assembly of God Church on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Joe Shipley and the Rev. Mike Nau officiating.
The body will be taken to church one hour to the service time.
Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap.
Serving as pallbearers will be Bud Rice, T.J. Stottlemyer, Chad Dicken, Shawn Dicken, James Tracey and Mike Hartman.

LAWRENCE J. MCGOVERN
OAKLAND -- Lawrence Jesse McGovern, 74, of 137 George Washington Highway, Oakland, died Saturday, June 23, 2001, at Fort Howard Veterans Hospital.
Born on June 11, 1927, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, he was the son of the late Joseph C. McGovern and Frances Myrtle (McLean) McGovern.
Mr. McGovern was an addictions counselor for the Veterans Administration.
He is survived by three daughters, Sandra Irving and husband John, Oakland, Denise Cochran and husband Steve, Pasadena, Dawn Rutherford and husband Michael, Lafollette, Tenn.; a son, Ronald McGovern and wife Nadine, Chandler, Ariz.; a brother, United States Senator George McGovern and wife Eleanor, Stevensville, Mont.; a sister, Mildred Brady and husband Harold, Sioux Falls, S.D.; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Friday from 11 a.m. until 12 noon.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 12 noon with the Rev. Charles A. Erzkus officiating.
Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap. Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by The Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
BERNICE A. "BIDDS" SHARPLESS
KITZMILLER -- Bernice A. "Bidds" Sharpless, 80, died Monday, June 25, 2001, in the Garrett County Memorial Hospital in Oakland.
Born Aug. 5, 1920 in Vindex, she was a daughter of the late Jessie F. and Ada B. (Trout) Stewart.
Bidds is survived by her husband, Morris Sharpless; and four daughters, Sylvia Paugh and Joan Sharpless both of Swanton, Alta Tichinel of Kitzmiller and Sharon Tasker of Piedmont, W.Va. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the David A. Burdock Funeral Home in Kitzmiller.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Donald Stull officiating.
Interment is in the Kalbaugh Cemetery, Elk Garden.
CATHERINE F. MILLER
CUMBERLAND -- Catherine "Kay" Frances Miller, 58, of 426 Furnace St., Cumberland, died Saturday, June 23, 2001, at Western Maryland Health System's Memorial Campus.
Born on Oct. 24, 1942, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of Julia Marie Click, Cumberland.
Mrs. Miller was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother and an avid vegetable and flower gardener. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, an active volunteer for Allegany High School activities and fund raising, an active member and past president of Allegany Camper Club.
Besides her mother, she is survived by her husband, Carl F. "Fred" Miller Jr.; a son, Joseph Kevin Miller and special friend Cindy Bennett, Meyersdale, Pa., and a daughter, Julia A. Poland and special friend Ron Miller, St. Leonard; and two grandchildren, Kevin Poland and Kayla Poland, both of Cumberland.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 8 p.m. with Deacon Frank Werner officiating.
Interment of her cremated remains will be in the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap.
