BRIGITTE L. LAUPERT
WESTERNPORT -- Brigitte L. Laupert, 66, of 21502 Creekside Drive, SW, Westernport, died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at Western Maryland Health System, Memorial Campus.
Born on Jan. 12, 1935, in Germany, she was the daughter of the late Hans and Renate Miller. (She was our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother.)
She is survived by her husband, Edward Laupert, Westernport; one sister, Renate, Germany; and her children, Rebecca Krampf and husband, Jack, Cumberland; Regina Hamm-Riggle and husband, Jeff of LaVale; Andrew Laupert and wife, Donna, Martinsburg; Heidi Laupert and husband, Bobby Dick, Cumberland; Alison Winner and husband Chris, Lonaconing, and six grandchildren, Jeremiah, Ashley, Jennifer, Daniel, Tanner, and Colten.
As she wished, her body will be cremated, and there will be a private ceremony for immediate family.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Allegany County Animal Shelter or to the Allegany County Library System.
GLADYS E. HOTT
ROMNEY, W.Va. -- Gladys E. Hott, 82, of Romney, went to be with the Lord on June 20, 2001, at Hampshire Memorial Hospital, Romney.
Born July 9, 1918 in Kirby, she was the daughter of the late Garrett Duncan and Martha Ann (Bowman) Hott. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth E. Hott, March 1978; three sons, Richard E, Hott, Raymond G. Hott, and an infant son; one son-in-law, Stanley Ruckman; three brothers and two sisters also preceded her in death.
She was a member of the Hott's Chapel United Methodist Church, Kirby.
Surviving are, three sons, Wayne E. Hott and wife Patty, Kirby, Larry E. Hott, Romney, and G. Duncan Hott and wife Lisa, Romney; one daughter, Margie E. Ruckman, Romney; two sisters, Elaine Welton, Moorefield, Audrey Coffman, Charles Town; 22 grandchildren, and 38 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney.
The funeral service will be at Hott's Chapel United Methodist Church, Kirby, with Pastor Joseph A. Metzler, on Friday, June 22, 2001 at 1 p.m. The body will be taken to the church at 12 noon, Friday.
Interment will be in Hott's Chapel Cemetery, Kirby.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney.
CARLTON J. CALLIS JR.
OAKLAND -- Carlton James "Jim" Callis Jr., 58, of Oakland, died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at Cuppett-Weeks Nursing Home, Oakland.
Born Oct. 22, 1942, in Oakland, he was a son of Mary Eichelberger Callis, Oakland, and the late Carlton J. Callis Sr. In addition, to his father, he is also preceded in death by two sons, Carlton "Jamie" Callis, and John "J" Callis.
Mr. Callis was a retired auto dealer, a member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church, and over the years he performed with numerous musical groups.
Surviving in addition to his mother, are three sisters, Linda Callis, Oakland, Nancy Luague, Galax, Va., and Debra Cowgill, also of Oakland.
Friends may call at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home, Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Chip Lee officiating.
Interment will be in the Oakland Cemetery.
ROBERT A. HILL
FRIENDSVILLE -- Robert Allen Hill, 33, of Friendsville, died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at his residence.
Born Oct. 12, 1967 in Allegany County, he was the son of Kenneth L. Hill Sr. and Katheryn (Turbin) Hill. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Dora L. Sharon; maternal grandfather, William R. Turbin; and step-grandfather, Harvey W. Sharon.
Mr. Hill was a construction worker. He served in the Army Reserves. he was a member of the Cumberland Outdoor Club, a Methodist by faith, and a 1985 graduate of Fort HIll High School.
In addition to his parents, surviving are one son, Joshua Robert Hill, Cumebrland; one sister, Valerie Swope, Beans Cove, Pa.; two brothers, Richard W. Hill, Friendsville. Kenneth L. Hill Jr., Trapp; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Fred Iser officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Cumberland.
ANN S. WERTZ
RAWLINGS -- Ann S. (Myers) Wertz, 77, of Rawlings, died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 7, 1924 in Boston, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Maxwell and Grace Stover. She was also preceded in death by one son, Gary M. Myers and one brother, Albert Stover.
Ann was a retired physical therapist for Memorial Hospital. She was a U.S. Army -Air Corp. veteran of World War II. Ann entered the Medical Corps of the U.S. Army Air Corps on Aug. 10, 1944, where she served as a physical therapist at Langley Field, Va. Ann was a most gentle, loving person as attested by all who knew her. She was the greatest mother any child would desire. She will be greatly missed on earth and will be a rich blessing to heaven.
Survivors include one son, Jeff Myers; one daughter, Susan L. Myers, both of Rawlings; a daughter-in-law, Loretta Myers, Chicago, Ill.; two sisters, Edith Doolittle, Derry N.H.; Carol Allen, Gloucester, Mass; three granddaughters, Michelle Chaput, Dawn Krause, Hannah Myers; two grandsons, Travis Myers, Mason Myers; three great-grandchildren, Ryan, Ashley, Sean; and special friends, Cindy Dixon, Frostburg, and Rita Marks, LaVale.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., Cresaptown, on Saturday, June 23, from 2 to 4 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, June 23, at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Wayne R. Turner officiating.
At Mrs. Wertz' request her body will be cremated at the Scarpelli Funeral Home Crematorium.
LOUISE B. KENNEY
SHORT GAP, W.Va. -- Louise "Weezie" Brinkman Kenney, 73, of Short Gap, died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at Memorial Hospital.
Born April 11, 1928 in Grafton, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Vernon A. "Babe" Brinkman; three sisters, Leatha Reel, Leona Hayes, Betty Methis; and one brother, Rando Smith.
Mrs. Kenney was a seamstress for G&G Manufacturing and a waitress at the B&O YMCA on Virginia Avenue.
Surviving are her husband, Robert W. Kenney; two daughters, Joann Butts and husband Doug, Cumberland, Bonnie Siefers and husband Paul, LaVale; one son, Gary D. Brinkman and wife Patty, Fort Ashby; five grandchildren, Douglas G. Butts Jr. and wife Anna, Lorrie A. Butts, Greg S. Siefers and wife Tina, Todd M. Siefers, Gary D. Brinkman Jr.; twin brothers, Orzie Smith and wife Wilma, Elzie Smith and wife Dorothy, all of Alliance, Ohio; five great-grandchildren, Marissa, Haley, Danielle, Josh, and Sara.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

JOSEPH "JOE" MARTIN
WESTMINSTER -- Joseph "Joe" Willard Martin, age 70 of 417 S. Foxglove Rd., Westminster, died Tuesday, June 19, 2001 at the Anderson Area Medical Center.
Born in Owensboro, Kentucky on January 27, 1931, Mr. Martin was a retired Civil Engineer with the WEST VACO Company, a graduate of Kentucky Wesleyan College with a B.S. degree and received Certified Public Accountant Degree from the University of Kentucky. He started the Little League Football in Owensboro, KY. Upon his retirement, he moved to Lake Hartwell in 1997 and was a member of the Fair Play Presbyterian Church. Mr. Martin also served in the U.S. Air Force, having served in the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Elizabeth Belcher Martin of the home; daughters, Dana Martin Wheeler of Owensboro, KY., Debra Martin Pigage of Athens, GA. and Jodi Martin Strehl of Spartanburg, S.C.; sisters, Jane Kiger of Newport Richey, Fla. and Nancy Baggett of Owensboro, Ky.; four grandchildren, Joseph Michael Pigage, Jacob Marshall Strehl, Lucas Martin Strehl and Ellen Elizabeth Pigag; two great-grandchildren, Crystal Gail Wheeler and Brandon Wayne Wheeler
Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Henry and Norena Brack Martin.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2001 at the Fair Play Presbyterian Church with Dr. Larry Dunster officiating.
Inurnment will follow in the Heritage Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of S.C. Chapter, 2711 Middleburg Dr., Columbia, S.C. 29204 and/or to the Fair Play Presbyterian Memorial Fund, 201 Fair Play Church Rd., Fair Play, S.C. 29643.
