MARIE M. FLOOD
VIENNA, Va. -- Marie M. Flood, 81, of 8600 Tyspring St., Vienna, died Wednesday, June 13, 2001, at Fairfax Hospital, Fairfax.
Born on Aug. 4, 1919 in Queens, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Robert James and Marie (Smith) Shores.
Marie was Episcopal by faith, and was a retired author.
Surviving is a son, Robert Flood of Allen, Texas; two grandchildren, Darryl Flood and Christopher Flood.
Private graveside services will be held at Philos Cemetery, Westernport on Tuesday.
Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, is in charge of arrangements.
TROY K. DEMOSS SMITH
FORT ASHBY, W.Va. -- Troy Kirk DeMoss Smith, 18, of HC 86, Box 428-A, Fort Ashby, died Friday, June 15, 2001, at Memorial Hospital as the result of injuries sustained in an accident at Fort Ashby on Thursday, June 14, 2001.
Born at Cumberland, on Sept. 13, 1982, he was the son of Robert L. Smith and Linda D. DeMoss of Fort Ashby. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Chester and Edna Smith and his maternal grandparents, Roy Ray and Maudia Ruth DeMoss.
Troy had just completed his junior year at Frankfort High School. He was a member of the Dawson United Methodist Church, Dawson. He was very active in boy scouting all of his life, being a member of Troop 27, Keyser, where he had earned the Order of the Arrow and God and Country Badges. He enjoyed backpacking and was especially proud of having accomplished bicycling the entire length of the C&O Canal in three different weekends. He was also very fond of horseback riding and working with and taking apart computers.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his loving friend, Foxie and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Thursday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. John F. Footen officiating.
Interment will be in the Queen's Point Cemetery, Keyser.
WILLIAM L. OURS
KEYSER, W.Va. -- William Luther Ours, 69, of Route 1 Box 229-BB, Keyser, died Friday, June 15, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born on June 24, 1931 at Petersburg, he was the son of the late Charles and Mernie (Thorne) Ours. He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Cletus and Oscar Ours.
Mr. Ours was a retired self employed automobile mechanic. He was a member of the Christ Memorial Baptist Church, Westernport, and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine D. (Cosner) Ours; four sons, David Whetzel and wife Brenda, Keyser, Junior Whetzel and wife Ethel, Mercersburg, Pa., Gary Whetzel, Mo., and William Dale Ours, Keyser; two daughters, Georgianna Baugher and husband Charles, Baltimore, and Wanda Lee Matthews and husband Kirk, Merritt Island, Fla.; nine brothers, Leon Ours, South Fork, Galen Ours, Glen Ours, Bobby Ours, Dale Ours, Ralph Ours, Olin Ours, all of Dorcas, Paul Ours, Durgon, and Delmas Ours, Petersburg; three sisters, Janie Sites, Mernie Kimble, both of Dorcas, and Arvella Zimmerer, Petersburg; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at Christ Memorial Baptist Church, Westernport on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Steffan Carr officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to services.
Interment will be in the Mount Storm Cemetery, Mount Storm.
Graveside military honors will be accorded.
DONALD D. HETRICK
CUMBERLAND -- Donald Deforest Hetrick, 82, of 14204 Oakview Drive, S.W., Cumberland, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at Arlington Hospital, Arlington, Va.
Born July 18, 1918 in Grantsville, he was the son of the late Harvey Clayton Hetrick and Ruth Lucille (Brenneman) Hetrick. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Park.
Mr. Hetrick was a Lutheran by faith and was a retired construction worker for the Washington D.C. Metro Transit Authority.
He is survived by his wife, Ruthie E. (Resh) Hetrick; one son, Gary Hetrick, Alexandria; one daughter, Dotty Folk, Grantsville; one brother, Kenneth Hetrick, Mount Airy; three grandsons, Adam and Nicholas Hetrick, and Jeffrey Folk; and one great-grandson, Trevor Hetrick.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted in the funeral home on Wednesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Harold McClay Jr. officiating.
Interment will be in the Bittinger Cemetery.
VELMA A. WERNER
FINZEL -- Velma Agnes Werner, 80, of 2550 Finzel Road, Frostburg, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake service will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 8:30 p.m. by the Rev. Fr. Doug Kenney.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at the St. Mary's Catholic Church at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. William Moody as celebrant.
Interment will be in the Finzel Cemetery.
BROTHER THOMAS TOMASUNAS
PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- Brother Thomas Tomasunas, OFM Cap., 74, of Friar of the Augustine Province of the Capuchin Franciscan Order, died on Friday, June 15, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center, Pittsburgh, after a short illness.
Born on June 25, 1926 in Grand Rapids, Mich., he was the son of the late John and Helen (Zemaitis) Tomasunas. Given the name Edward at birth, he took the name of "Thomas" on professing vows of poverty, chastity and obedience in the Capuchin Franciscan Order on Feb. 28 1955.
Brother Thomas worked in fraternity service within the Capuchin Franciscan Order throughout his religious life. Noted as a generous and skilled tailor, cook, sacristan and instructor for the younger friars. Brother Thomas anticipated the needs of those he served and often performed the most humble tasks around the friary. He never ceased to offer a shining example of true brotherhood, love and grace.
His assignments ranged from the Capuchin Brothers Training Program in Cumberland, (1959-1965, 1968-1977), to service in other friaries across the Middle Atlantic Capuchin Province (Saint Mary, Herman, 1965-1968, 1978-1980, Saint Conrad Friary, Annapolis, 1977-1978). For the past 21 years (1980-2001). Brother Thomas worked among the friars at St. Augustine Friary, Lawrenceville, Pittsburgh.
Brother Thomas was a veteran of the U.S. Army which he served faithfully and commendably from Oct., 1944 through Feb., 1947.
He is survived by over 10, 000 Capuchin Franciscan brothers throughout the world and by his brothers, John (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and William (Newaygo, Mich.) and his sister, Mary Kumko (Grand Rapids, Mich.). He was preceded in death by his brothers Albert and Charles.
Viewing will take place of Saturday, June 16, 2001, at Saint Augustine Friary, 221 36th St., Pittsburgh, from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday, June 17, 2001, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A wake service will be celebrated in the Friary at 8 p.m. The body will be transferred to Saint Augustine Church, 220-37th St., on Monday, June 18, 2001, where the Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. The Very Rev. Paul Kuppe, OFM Cap., Province of Saint Augustine, will preside.
Burial will follow in the friars' plot at Saint Augustine Cemetery, Millvale.
