HAZEL C. NEUS
SYKESVILLE -- Hazel C. Neus, 80, of Sykesville, formerly of Cumberland, died Friday, June 15, 2001, at her daughter's residence in Sykesville.
Born March 9, 1921 in Winchester, Va., she was the daughter of the late Lessa Bageant. She was also preceded in death by her husband, W. Edward Neus, Sept. 15, 1996.
Surviving are one daughter, Deborah A. Hawkins and husband Tommie, with whom she resided; one son, William E. Neus Jr. and wife Lynne, Baltimore; four sisters, Marybelle Light and husband Dr. Jack Light, Virginia Bishop, Mabel Young, Anna Reed, all of Cumberland; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Wayne R. Turner officiating.
Interment will be in the Maryland Veteran's cemetery at Rocky Gap, Flintstone.

JOHN W. SHERWOOD
PAW PAW, W.Va. -- John W. Sherwood, 82, of Paw Paw, died Wednesday, June 13, 2001, at St. Vincent Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla.
He was born March 13, 1919 at Keifer, Md., and was the son of the late Joseph Edward and Alpha Malcolm Sherwood.
He attended Johnson Bible College in Knoxville, Tenn. He had worked on the pipeline in Alaska and retired as a chef in Ohio. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the Paw Paw Church of Christ.
His wife, Juanita Sherwood preceded him in death in 1993.
Surviving are one daughter, Jenny Sherwood of Knoxville; two sons, David Sherwood of Knoxville, and John Sherwood of Knoxville; one sister, Hazel Haugh of Oldtown; two brothers, Jesse Sherwood of Jacksonville, and Melvin Sherwood of Hereford, Ariz.
Friends may call at the Kimble Funeral Home in Paw Paw, where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 19, at the Paw Paw Church of Christ with Pastor Mike Collins officiating.
Burial will be at the Wesley Chapel Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Kimble Funeral Home in Paw Paw.
VELMA A. WERNER
FINZEL -- Velma Agnes Werner, 80, of 2550 Finzel Road, Frostburg, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Feb. 6, 1921 in Pocahontas, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Joshua and Amada (Arklie) McKenzie. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph E. Werner; four brothers; five sisters; and she was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Werner was a retired housekeeper from Frostburg State University. She was a member of Saint Mary's Catholic Church, Pocahontas.
Mrs. Werner is survived by three sons, Roger Lee Werner, Finzel, Larry Werner and wife Christine, Frostburg, and Victor Werner and fiancee Barbara Martin, both of Finzel; three grandchildren, Nicol Ann Walker and husband Dan, Wilkes Barre, Larry Werner II, Frostburg, and Tina Marie Agnes Werner, Frostburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake service will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 8:30 p.m. by the Rev. Fr. Doug Kenney.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at the St. Mary's Catholic Church on Tuesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. William Moody as celebrant.
Interment will be in the Finzel Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Kenny Rosenberger, Robert McKenzie, David McKenzie, Keith McKenzie, Fred Keoner and Guy Griffith.
MAXINE P. LONG
SPRINGFIELD, W.Va. -- Maxine P. Long, 86, of Springfield, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at Dawnview Manor, Fort Ashby.
Born Sept. 28, 1914 in Keyser, she was the daughter of the late Samuel A. Park and Minnie M. (Shuman) Park. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Herbert W. Long in 1993; one brother, Emory Park; twin sisters, Leola Sperry and Leota Haines. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Long was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Fort Ashby. She had worked at the Celanese Corporation and the Ladies Garment Factory, Cumberland. Maxine had also worked with her late husband on the family farm for many years.
Mrs. Long is survived by one daughter, Genevieve George, Fort Ashby; one granddaughter, Anita Kronk, Westminster; and one sister-in-law, Edith Thompson, Cumberland.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Inc., Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral service will be conducted from the funeral home on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Dallas Forren officiating.
Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery.
EVELYN S. CZARNECKI
FREDERICA, Del. -- Evelyn S. Czarnecki of Frederica died Friday, June 8, 2001, in Genesis ElderCare, Milford. She was 93.
Mrs. Czarnecki was a registered nurse in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1948, with the rank of staff sergeant.
She was a member of the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, in 1970; her parents, Bertram R. and Laura E. Hickey Sinclair; a sister, Thelma Russell; and a grandson, Gary L. Welden.
She is survived by her three daughters, Evelyn Failing of Folsom, Pa.; Gwendolyn Welden and her husband, Curt, of Essington, Pa. and Charlene Lelinski and her husband, Anthony, of Cumberland; a sister and brother-in-law, Constance and Pat Townsend of Baltimore; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at noon Wednesday at Baltimore National Cemetery.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests donations to a favorite charity.

CUMBERLAND -- Geraldine M. Judy, 70, of Blackiston Avenue, Cumberland, died Thursday, June 14, 2001 at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born March 24, 1931 in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late James and Grace (Buhrman) Ogle. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ernest William Judy, June 12, 1965; one sister, Maureen Alkire and husband Richard; three brothers, Marvin Ogle, Ralph Ogle and Monroe Ogle.
Mrs. Judy was retired from Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Our mother was the light of our lives. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and a loyal friend to all she met. Our loss is heavens gain. Till we meet again MOM, we love you.
Surviving are one son, James E. Judy, Cumberland; two daughters, Sheila Crawford and husband Richard, LaVale, Sonia M. Foutz and husband Bill, Rawlings; one brother, Raphael Ogle and wife Lilliebelle, Eyner, N.C.; four grandchildren, Kelly Mauzy and husband Chris, Jason Crawford, Lisa Foutz and Ryan Foutz; two great-grandchildren, Gavin and Andrew Mauzy; several nieces and nephews; and many special friends.
