HELEN L. MILLER
HARRISONBURG, Va. -- Helen Louise Miller, 87, died on Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at The Sunnyside Retirement Village in Harrisonburg.
She was born Jan 10, 1914 in Cumberland, and was the daughter of the late Arta M. and Mary Rebecca Stemple Gall.
Helen moved to this area in 1980 from Keyser, W.Va., and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Harrisonburg. She was a former member of the Keyser Presbyterian Church where she was very active and retired from Potomac State College.
Her husband, Thomas Lester Miller preceded her in death in May of 1964.
She is survived by one son, Thomas Owen Miller of Alexandria; two daughters, Mary L. Scott of Harrisonburg, and Marie Warner of Tampa, Fla.; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m., Friday morning at the Bethel Chapel of Sunnyside by the Rev. Paul O'Gorek.
Graveside services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday afternoon at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Cumberland.
Friends may call anytime at the home of Charles and Mary Scott at 1556 Cumberland Drive in Harrisonburg.

Her body is at the Kyger and Trobaugh Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
ALEC YACENECH
CUMBERLAND -- Alec Yacenech, 79, of Baltimore St., Cumberland died at his residence on Saturday, June 9, 2001.
Born on July 16, 1921 in Independence, W.Va., he was the son of the late Peter Yacenech and Katherine (Hnatyk) Yacenech.
He was a retired orchard worker and a decorated veteran of World War II were he served in the Army Air Corp, he also was a veteran of the Korean Conflict were he served in the US Air Force.
He is survived by one brother, Edward R. Emerson, Cumberland; three sisters, Mary A. Yacenech, Cumberland, Stella J. Eaton, Fort Ashby, W.Va., and Anne Y. Reed, Cumberland; and a number of nieces and nephews.
His body was cremated, a memorial service will be held at a later date.
The Kight Funeral Home, 309-311 Decatur St., Cumberland, will be in charge of the arrangements.
JULIA E. BAKER
KEYSER, W.Va. -- Julia E. Baker, 89, of 78 W. Piedmont St., Keyser, died Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at the Potomac Valley Hospital.
Born on July 10, 1911 at Cross, she was a daughter of the late William and Rhoda (Michaels) Baker. She also was preceded in death by her husband Bernard C. Baker on March 18, 1974; one daughter, Pauline Parker; five brothers, Henry, Charles, Hiram, Russell and Raymond Baker; one sister, Gladys Bray; one grandson, Jimmy Baker; and one great great-granddaughter.
Mrs. Baker was a homemaker and was Protestant by faith.
She is survived by three sons, Lewis Baker, Allen Baker and wife Virginia, Ronald Baker and wife Mary, all of Keyser; three daughters, Nancy Powell and husband Robert, Keyser, Ethel Baker, Keyser, Jean Baker, Westernport; four brothers, Robert Baker and wife Mary, Piedmont, Norman Baker and wife Vivian, Keyser, LeRoy Baker, Rawlings, Daniel Baker and wife Judy, Keyser; two sisters, Josephine Baker, Whitacre, Va., Myrtle Baker, Dundalk; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 8 great great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel on Friday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Leslie Hipp officiating.
Interment will be in the Sinclair Memorial Park, Cross.
EDWARD S. BARNCORD
CORRIGANVILLE -- Edward S. Barncord, 71, of Poorbaugh Hill, Corriganville, died Wednesday, June 13, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born on Jan. 11, 1930, in Rockwood, Pa., he was the son of the late Walter Scott Barncord and Martha (Lapp) Barncord. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Nina Lee (Loeber) Barncord on March 9, 1965, and three brothers, Olen Mosser, David Mosser and Howard Barncord.
Mr. Barncord was a retired operator with CSX with 42 years of service. After retirement he was most happy working in his wood shop. HE also enjoyed genealogy and learning to speak in German. He was a member of the Kemp Lodge 154 A.F. and A.M., Mount Savage.
Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Frances Grace (Resh) Barncord, two sisters, Orpha Catherine "Catty" Crabtree and Martha Louise Crites, both of Corriganville; one brother, William Francis "Barney" Barncord; three sons, Arthur Scott Barncord, California, Md, Mark Barncord, Dunkirk, and Eric Barncord, Cumberland; one daughter, Monica Armstrong, Corriganville; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Friends will be received at Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, June 16, at 1 p.m.
Interment will be in Grantsville Cemetery.
CLEMENT H. CLOWER
SALEM, W.Va. -- Clement Hogbin Clower, Salem, formerly of the Petersburg area, died June 12, 2001, in Salem.
Born April 1, 1920 in Petersburg, he was the son of the late Albert and Mable (Hogbin) Clower. He was also preceded in death by his wife Jane (Pritchard) Clowers in 1947.
In 1938 he graduated from Petersburg High School. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army. In 1947 Mr. Clowers graduated from Salem College and returned to Petersburg, where he taught at the high school until 1955. During this time he coached the girls basketball team, taught Journalism and wrote a column for the Grant County Press called (Sportingly Yours).
He is survived by two step-sons; two sisters; two grandsons; two great-grandsons; and 15 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., on Friday, June 16, 2001, at the Salem United Methodist Church, Salem.
Burial will be in the cemetery nearby.
MARY R. SHRIVER
CUMBERLAND -- Mary Ruth Shriver, 109, of Cumberland, died Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at her residence.
Born on May 5, 1892, in Tomahawk, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Samuel T. and Mary (Stuckey) Hedges. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harry R. Shriver in 1937; an infant son; and 10 brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Shriver was a homemaker. She was the oldest surviving member of Tomahawk Presbyterian Church. Her life spanned three centuries of loving and caring for family.
Surviving are one daughter, Lois L. Laurent and husband William, with whom she resided; one son, John M. "Jack" Shriver and wife Romaine, Hagerstown; two grandsons, Gary A. Shriver and wife Pamela, Green Bay, Wis., and Barry R. Laurent, Pasadena; one great-granddaughter, Amberly L. Laurent, Pasadena; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Graveside services will be conducted at Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg, W.Va., on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Robin Reed Reese officiating.

GLADYS M. MCKENZIE
BOONSBORO -- Gladys Marie McKenzie, 92, of Hagerstown, formerly of Cumberland, died Saturday, June 9, 2001, at the Fahrney-Keedy Nursing Home, Boonsboro.
Born on April 14, 1909, in Frametown, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William French and Lily M. (McMorrow) James. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald K. McKenzie; a daughter, Phyllis J. Hicks; a son, D. Kenneth McKenzie; and two brothers, Paul James and William Claude James.
Mrs. McKenzie was retired from the Coning Department of the Celanese Corp., Cumberland, and she was a member of the Bethel Church of the Nazarene and Family Center.
Surviving are her son-in-law, James Hicks, Stuart, Fla.; two brothers, Eugene James, Cumberland, and Perry Hayes James, Atlanta, Ga.; one sister, Louise Shaffer, Cumberland; six grandchildren, Brian Hicks, Stuart, Bonna Loverock, Thurmont, Beth Sandy, Martinsburg, W.Va., Beverly Little, Stuart, Donna Fields, Hagerstown, and David McKenzie, Hancock; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Pastor David F. Dayhoff officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
