BETTY L. (BOWERS) KENNEDY
WHEATFIELD, N.Y. -- Betty Louise (Bowers) Kennedy, 61, of Niagara Falls Boulevard, Wheatfield, died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at home after a lengthy illness.
Born in Oakland on June 10, 1939, she was a daughter of Ruth Jewell and the late Stancie Bowers.
A high school graduate, she moved to Niagara Falls, in 1952 and to the Town of Grand Island in 1980. Betty worked as a receptionist for the Niagara Falls Chamber of Commerce from 1958 until 1961. She then was an office worker for General Abrasives for two years and was a sales clerk at J.C. Penny at the Boulevard Mall and the Bon Ton at Summit Park Mall for a short period of time. Mrs. Kennedy was a member of the Tonawanda Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Her children said that she enjoyed cooking and was a terrific mom and grandmother.
Mrs. Kennedy is survived by her husband of 39 years, Brian R. Kennedy; a son, Joel (Kathryn) Kennedy of Grand Island; a daughter, Heather Kennedy (Richard) Bohl of Niagara Falls, her mother, M. Ruth Jewell of Oakland; two brothers, Robert (Judy) Swinson and James (Martha) Swinson of Oakland; two sisters, Patricia Paugh of Oakland and Catherine Squires of Little Rock, Ariz.; a granddaughter, Elizabeth S. Lambert of Niagara Falls; several nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services were held on Monday, June 11, at the Otto Redanz Funeral Home, LaSalle Park Chapel, 2215 Military Road, Niagara Falls.
Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lewiston.

STELLA M. BARNES
FORT ASHBY, W.Va. -- Stella Mae (Dennison) Barnes, 67, of Fort Ashby, died Saturday, June 9, 2001, at Memorial Hospital.
Born on March 22, 1934, in Springfield, she was the daughter of the late Walter Brown and Vista Viola (Eye) Dennison.
Mrs. Barnes was a member of Berean Independent Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Herbert Barnes; three sisters, Mary Landis, Springfield, Elva Jane Hughes, Carbondale, Kan., and Judy Yaider, Springfield; one brother, William A. Dennison, Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Inc., Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral service will be conducted from the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dana Umbel officiating.
Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery.
Members of Berean Independent Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers.
E. BURNDETTA MCKENZIE
CUMBERLAND -- Friends for E. Burndetta "Burnie" (Flora) McKenzie will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Emmanuel-Bethel United Methodist Church, 24 Humbird St., Cumberland, on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Cumberland.
R. DALE WILLIAMS
FRESNO, Calif. -- Richard Dale Williams, 66, of Fresno, formerly of Midland, Md., died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at Clovis Community Hospital, Clovis.
Born on Jan. 18, 1935, in Midland, he was the son of the late James Dewey Williams and Nannie (Loar) Williams.
Mr. Williams was a retired employee of PPG Industries with 31 years of service. He has been a resident of Fresno, since 1967. He was a loving father and will be missed by his family and many friends.
Surviving are one son, Christopher Williams of Fresno; one daughter, Stephanie Williams of Fresno; one brother, James Williams of Midland; one sister, Mary Louise Viereck of McLean, Va.; and a nephew, Jeff Newman of Frederick, Md.
Friends will be received at the Yost and Webb Funeral Home, 1002 T St., Fresno, Tuesday, June 12, 2001.
Mr. Williams requested that his body be cremated.

MARY W. BROWN
CUMBERLAND -- Mary "Gen" White Brown, 86, of Cumberland, died Friday, June 8, 2001, at Memorial Hospital.
Born on Jan. 15, 1915, in Job, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Omer Clifton White and Gladys Magdalene Teter White Stewart. She was also preceded in death by two stepsons, Paul Dewain Brown Jr. and James William Brown; and one brother, Clark White.
Mrs. Brown was a member of Cumberland Grace Brethren Church. She was retired from the Maryland Glass Company and was a former sitter for Memorial Hospital.
Surviving are her husband, Paul Dewain Brown; one stepson, Daniel Earl Brown and wife Sharon, Rawlings; seven nieces, Monna Johnson, Wiley Ford, W.Va., Ruth Warnick, Springfield, W.Va., Georgie Scott, Darlington, Pa., Linda Miller, Portland, Ore., Lois Cover, Cumberland, Louise Duguid, Fort Wayne, Ind., and Betty Bosley, Cumberland; two nephews, Louis Kerns, Silver Springs, and Jackie Brown, Cumberland; five grandchildren, Dana Brown, Rawlings, Peggy Brown, Dover, Del., James Brown, Dover, Scott Brown, McCoole, and Deborah Brown Lottes; and a special sister-in-law and friend, Leona Kerns and husband Louis, Cumberland.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Raymond McCoy officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

MAXINE A. SQUIRES
CUMBERLAND -- Maxine A. "Mick" Squires, 82, of Cumberland, died Saturday, June 9, 2001, at her residence.
Born on July 25, 1918, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Jacob Lewis and Ada (Evans) Snyder. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Chester Arthur "Buck" Squires on March 20, 1977; six sisters, Margaret Burton, Lula Lease, Eleanor Snyder, Isabelle Downing, Audrienne Chaney and Dorothy Snyder; and three brothers, Joseph Snyder, Charles Snyder and James Snyder.
Mrs. Squires was a well known local caterer, who was known for preparing special occasion cakes. She volunteered at the Allegany County Health Department Well Baby Clinic, Washington Middle School Health Room and the Meals on Wheels program. She was a lifelong member of Holy Cross Episcopal Church and a member of the South Cumberland Businessmen's Association. She was a graduate of Pennsylvania Avenue High School Class of 1935. "Aunt Mick" was loved by her family and was a true friend.
Surviving are one son, James A. Squires Sr. and wife Patricia, Cumberland; two grandsons, James A. Squires Jr. and wife Lori, and Michael P. Squires and wife Kara; three great-granddaughters, Josie, Jessica and Caitlin; one sister, Wilda Long, Cumberland; one sister-in-law, Louvene Snyder, Cumberland; two very special nieces, Judy Snyder and Irene Hoyle, all of Cumberland; and many other nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, James Squires Jr. and Michael Squires, nephews, Richard Snyder, Richard Keller and Fred Squires, and her next door neighbor, William Easton.
E. BURNDETTA MCKENZIE
CUMBERLAND -- E. Burndetta "Burnie" (Flora) McKenzie, 77, of Cumberland, died Friday, June 8, 2001, at Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C.
Born Jan. 31, 1924 in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Robert Hetrick Flora and Freida M. (Riley) Flora Hyde. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Clarence Urban "Bill" McKenzie, July 20, 2000; her grandparents, William and Agnes (Murphy) Riley; and a special aunt and uncle, Joseph and Pearl Taylor.
Mrs. McKenzie was a 1941 graduate of Fort Ashby High School and a graduate of Catherman's Business School. She was an executive secretary for Farmers Dairy and ABL and retired from PPG Industries in the Employee Relations Department in 1983. She was a member of the New Covenant United Methodist Church and the Mended Hearts Association. Burndetta was a kind and caring wife, mother, co-worker and friend. She will be sadly missed by all of those who knew and loved her.
Surviving are one son, Robert C. McKenzie, with whom she resided; two cousins, Joann Eckard and husband Jim, and Ethel Rayburn, all of Cumberland; and one sister-in-law, Evelyn Dawson, Lonaconing.

Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Cumberland.
