CHARLES B. DEAN
PEARISBURG, Va. -- Charles Buhrman Dean, 87, of 401 Gale Road, Pearisburg, died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at the Avante Nursing Home, Waynesboro.
Mr. Dean was born on Oct. 12, 1913, in Philadelphia, and was a son of the late Oswald C. and Margaret K. Dean. Until his retirement in 1977, he had worked for the Celanese Corp., for 45 years. He was a member of the Pearisburg First United Methodist Church for over 50 years. He was a life member of the Masonic Order, The Moose, Knights of Pythias and the Order of DeMolay. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Helen L. Dean; and a daughter, Margaret Louise Dean. Survivors include, daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Terry Smoot of Waynesboro, Va.; and a sister, Elizabeth Taylor and family of Cumberland, Md.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, June 11, 2001, at 11 a.m. in the Pearisburg First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles Lockerby officiating with interment in Birchlawn Burial Park, Pearisburg.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Givens Funeral Home, Pearisburg.

WALTER B. HOMAN
MOOREFIELD, W.Va. -- Walter Byrd Homan, D.V.M., 68, of Moorefield, passed away Friday morning, June 8, 2001.
Born on Oct. 15, 1932, in Sugar Grove, he was a son of the late Dr. Virgil R. and Leafy (Mitchell) Homan. A graduate of Franklin High School in 1950, he attended Potomac State College from 1950-52, West Virginia University from 1952-53, and graduated from Ohio State University in 1957 with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree. He began his practice in Moorefield, the same year. He was a past member of the Moorefield Town Council from 1961-1967, served on the WV Veterinary Medicine Board from 1978-1984 and as its president from 1979-1984, was a member and past president of the WV VMA, the AABP, the AVMA and a member of the Moorefield Lions Club and Duffey Memorial United Methodist Church.
Surviving are four sons, Thomas Reid Homan, DVM, of Charleston, Kyle Richard Homan of Winchester, Va., Dale Byrd Homan of Shepherdstown, and Andrew Todd Homan of Winchester; one daughter, Jenni Lynn Homan Fenton of Fayetteville; four brothers, James Reid Homan and Virgil R. Homan Jr. of Sugar Grove, Richard W. Homan of Franklin, and John F. Homan of Shepherdstown; six grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Morris M. Homan.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 11, 2001, at the Duffey Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bruce Macbeth officiating.
Interment will follow with graveside services at 1 p.m. at the Sugar Grove cemetery in Sugar Grove. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 10, 2001, at the Fraley Funeral Home in Moorefield.

E. BURNDETTA "BURNIE" (FLORA) MCKENZIE
CUMBERLAND -- E. Burndetta "Burnie" (Flora) McKenzie, 77, of Cumberland, died Friday, June 8, 2001, at Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C.
Born Jan. 31, 1924 in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Robert Hetrick Flora and Freida M. (Riley) Flora Hyde. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Clarence Urban "Bill" McKenzie, July 20, 2000; her grandparents, William and Agnes (Murphy) Riley; and a special aunt and uncle, Joseph and Pearl Taylor.
Mrs. McKenzie was a 1941 graduate of Fort Ashby High School and a graduate of Catherman's Business School. She was an executive secretary for Farmers Dairy and ABL and retired from PPG Industries in the Employee Relations Department in 1983. She was a member of the New Covenant United Methodist Church and the Mended Hearts Association. Burndetta was a kind and caring wife, mother, co-worker and friend. She will be sadly missed by all of those who knew and loved her.
Surviving are one son, Robert C. McKenzie, with whom she resided; two cousins, Joann Eckard and husband Jim, and Ethel Rayburn, all of Cumberland; and one sister-in-law, Evelyn Dawson, Lonaconing.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Emmanuel-Bethel United Methodist Church, 24 Humbird St., Cumberland, on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Richard H. Jewell officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Cumberland.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Mrs. McKenzie may make memorial contributions to the Renovation Fund at the New Covenant United Methodist Church, 1707 Frederick St., Cumberland, MD 21502.
ELEANOR V. DORSEY
CORRIGANVILLE -- Eleanor V. Layman Dorsey, 68, of Corriganville, died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
She was born on Aug. 4, 1932, in Cumberland. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin H. Dorsey Sr. on April 28, 1993; one sister, Nan Boetcher; and three brothers, Willard, Kenneth and Frank Wisenburg.
Mrs. Dorsey was a homemaker and a former drapery maker in Cumberland.
Surviving are one son, Ralph Layman and wife Karen, Severn; one step son, Benjamin H. Dorsey Jr. and wife Jeanie, Bryan, Ohio; two step daughters, Donna G. Johnson, Corriganville, and April Adams and husband Jack, Baltimore; two step-sisters; one step-brother; 14 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 12 noon.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 12 noon with the Rev. Wayne R. Turner officiating.
Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.
Pallbearers will be Jim Robertson, Earl Johnson Jr., Ralph Layman Jr., and Eric Johnson.
WILLIAM S. BEAVER
KEYSER, W.Va. -- William Sidney Beaver, 85, of 59 Gilmore St., Keyser, formerly of Bloomington, Md. died Friday, June 8, 2001, at Moran Manor Nursing Home, Westernport.
Born on June 15, 1915 at Chillicothe, Ohio, he was the son of the late Lawrence Garfield and Ida Mae (Northcraft) Beaver. His wife, Mildred (Pattison) Beaver in 1983 also preceded him in death.
Mr. Beaver was the retired owner of the former Savage River Inn and Service Station in Bloomington. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II, having served with the 12th Armored Division. Mr. Beaver was a life member of Kelly Mansfield Post 52 American Legion, Piedmont, a member of Victory Post 155 American Legion, Westernport, a member of Queens Point V.F.W. 6775, McCoole, a charter member of Bloomington Fire Company, a 53 year member of Hiram Lodge 103 AF and AM, Westernport, and was Presbyterian by faith.
Surviving is his fiancee, Olive Carpenter of Keyser; a daughter, Elizabeth; five grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren; a nephew, James Davis of Rawlings; two nieces, Mary Ann McGoye of S.C., and Susan Donnelly of Bloomington.
The family will receive friends at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Hiram Lodge will hold a memorial service at the funeral home on Saturday at 7:15 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Paul Smith officiating.
Interment will be in Bloomington Cemetery, Bloomington, with full military honors accorded at graveside by the combined veterans organizations.
ARTHUR H. "BUB" BATEMAN
SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Arthur H. "Bub" Bateman, 66, of San Antonio, died on Wednesday, May 2, 2001, in University Hospital and Medical Center.
Born May 9, 1934 in Swanton, Md., he was the son of the late Clarence and Grace (Wright) Bateman.
He served in the United States Army for 14 1/2 years.
He is survived by one daughter, Pamela Marie of Garfield Heights, Ohio; a brother, Charles Hugh Bateman, Oakland, Md.; a sister, Anna Mae (Bateman) Wiles, Westernport; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
At Mr. Bateman's request his body was cremated. His earthly remains will be interred at Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery.
ROBERT G. DARR
CUMBERLAND -- Robert G. Darr, 65, of Bedford St., Cumberland, died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at Memorial Hospital.
Born on Feb. 13, 1936 at Cumberland, he was the son of the late Charles Darr and Viola (Iser) Darr; his wife Flossie Mae (Pennington) Darr, died on Nov. 18, 1995, he also was preceded in death by one brother, Eugene Francis Darr.
Mr. Darr was a retired Bottler, he worked for both the Old Export and Old German Brewing Companies of Cumberland. He was a member of Bethel Church of the Nazarene.
He is survived by four daughters, Marlene A. Bittner and husband Kevin, Meyersdale, Pa, Darlene L. Cage and husband Paul, Oldtown, Joyce F. Shoemaker and Harold Jr., Cumberland, Theresa L. Albright and husband Rick, Meyersdale; two sisters, Geraldine Lee, Richmond Va., and Ida Mae Hilleary, Cumberland; 10 grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Kight Funeral Home, 309-311 Decatur St., Cumberland on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. David F. Dayhoff officiating.
Interment will be at Oliver Grove Cemetery, near Oldtown.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Bittner, Jonathan West, Paul Cage, Harold Shoemaker Jr., David Twigg, and Rick Albright.
