BLANCHE E. PLUMMER
FROSTBURG -- Blanche E. Plummer, 87, formerly of 100 Honeysuckle Lane, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Dec. 18, 1913 in Mount Savage she was the daughter of the late John and Iva (Lohr) McElwee. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert L. Plummer; one sister, Kay Leasure; and one brother, Franklin McElwee.
Mrs. Plummer was formerly employed at the Celanese Fibers Corporation and retired from the Crystal Laundry Company. She was a member of the Frostburg Chapter 221 Women of the Moose.
Surviving are one daughter, Darlene Myers-Hill and husband John, Perry Hall; one brother, Francis McElwee, LaVale; two grandsons, Jay Hill Mount View, Calif., and Richard Hill, Mount Airy; and one great-grandson, Graham Gahs-Hill.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg on Friday from noon to 1 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Fr. William Moody officiating.
Interment will be in the Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.

ROY "FRANK" WHEELER
RIDGELEY, W.Va. -- Roy "Frank" Wheeler, 49, of Old Furnace Road, Ridgeley, died Tuesday June 5, 2001, at his residence.
Born Jan. 8, 1952 in Cumberland, he was the son of Evaline (Peer) Wheeler Chaney, Patterson Creek, and the late Roy A. Wheeler. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Kathy Hoover.
He was a 1969 graduate of Ridgeley High School and the Mineral County Vo-Tech School. He was a member of the Woodland Inn Eightball Pool League. Frank was baptized in March, 2001. He and Sharon were also remarried the same day. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and very much loved friend.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon (Crider) Wheeler; two sons, Roy "Michael" Wheeler, Cumberland, and Franklin "Wayne" Wheeler, Ridgeley; two daughters, Jennifer Miltenberger and husband Kevin, Ridgeley, and Amanda Wheeler, Romney; three grandchildren, Kellsea Renee, Kasidea Rachelle and Hannah Elizabeth Miltenberger; his step father, Edward Chaney, Patterson Creek; one brother, Mike O. Wheeler, Berkeley Springs; two sisters, Nilda Green, Winchester, Va., and JoAnn Hoover, Mount Jackson, Va.; and two step-brothers, Robbie Chaney, Fort Ashby, and Gary Chany, Levels.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Inc., Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral service will be conducted from the funeral home on Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. James Chetock officiating.
Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be members of the Woodland Inn Eightball Team, Arnie French, Rick Wright, Gary Carroll, Charlie Kenney, Bruce Deffinbaugh, Al Cross, Kelly Williams, and Fred Harshberger.

HYNDMAN, Pa. -- Esther Louise Welsh, 85, of 246 6th Ave., Hyndman, died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at Penn Knoll Nursing Home, Bedford.
Born Jan. 16, 1916, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Joseph H. Wilson and Neva Pearl (Riegger) Wilson. She was also preceded by her husband, Homer Welsh.
Mrs. Welsh and her husband Homer owned and operated Welsh's Grocery, Bedford Road, Cumberland. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Madley, and a volunteer at the Hyndman Public Library.
She is survived by two daughters, Eleanor L. Kuhn and husband Kenneth, Bufffalo Mills, and Marian C. Rizer and husband Luther (Jack), Hyndman; a brother, Earle Wilson, Wellington, Col.; a sister, Josephine MacMannis, LaVale; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Saturday from 10 a.m. till 11 a.m.
Services will be conducted on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. David L. Wright officiating.
A private interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, at a later date.

EVERETT, Pa. -- A Memorial Mass for James Raymond Brown will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Tuesday at 9 a.m.
The body will be cremated at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., Crematorium.
There will be no visitation.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

MELVIN B. RIFFEY JR.
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Melvin B. Riffey Jr., 61, of Shepherdstown, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, in City Hospital.
Born June 4, 1940, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Melvin B. Riffey Sr. and Edith Strawderman Riffey.
He was employed with World Airways and was retired from TWA with thirty years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, a graduate of Allegany High School, Class of 1958, and a graduate of Pittsburgh Institute of aeronautics. He was a fifty year member of Cresaptown United Methodist Church, Cresaptown and a former member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Shepherdstown.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine Smith Riffey; two sons, Christopher B. Riffey and his fiancee Jacqueline Mahoney of Martinsburg, Brian Riffey and his wife Vanessa of Martinsburg; one grandson, Logan Scott Riffey; one sister, Wilda Miller, Cresaptown; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Louise Branson.
The family will receive friends at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Shepherdstown, Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001, from 6 to 9 p.m. where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Matthew T. Rowgh officiating.
The family will receive friends at the Cresaptown United Methodist Church on Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Cresaptown United Methodist Church, Cresaptown, with the Rev. Harold R. McClay Jr. and the Rev. Matthew T. Rowgh officiating.
Interment will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Cumberland.
