ALONZO R. EVANS
Alonzo Ralph Evans, 77, Elk Garden, W.Va., died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born July 6, 1922, in Fairmont, W.Va., he was a son of the late Alonzo and Maude Amanda Evans. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Virginia (Morris) Evans, and one brother, Eugene Evans.
Survivors include four sons, Ralph Eugene Evans, Woodbridge, Va., Robert Evans, Keyser, W.Va., Danny Evans, Colorado, and Gary Wayne Evans, New Creek, W.Va.; four daughters, Peggy Carr, Scherr, W.Va., Sandra Brown and Charlotte Simmons, both of New Creek, and Robin Lewis, Elk Garden; 17 grand-children; and 28 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, Kitzmiller, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today, Thursday. A service will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Friday, Feb. 18, at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Donald Marple and the Rev. Byrne Mayberry officiating. Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Elk Garden.
BEATRICE M. WARNER
Beatrice "Peachie" (Morgan) Warner, 82, Frostburg, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2000, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born May 20, 1917, in Carlos, she was a daughter of the late William and Carrie (Speir) Morgan. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Warner, in 1988, and by five sisters and four brothers.
She was employed by the Kelly Springfield Tire Co. and was owner of Warner's Grocery Store in Finzel.
Survivors include one son, Joseph Rae Martin, Jacksonville, Fla.
Friends were received at the Sowers Funeral Home, Frostburg, where a service was conducted Sunday, Feb. 6, with the Rev. George M. Harpold officiating. Interment was in Frostburg Memorial Park.
MARY V. JONES
Mary Virginia Jones, 78, Cumberland, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, at Carroll County General Hospital, Westminster.
Born Jan. 18, 1922, in Lonaconing, she was a daughter of the late James Dewey and Rose (Elkins) Buskirk. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Dewey H. Buskirk.
She was a former employee of the C&P Telephone Company and Kay's Jewelry. She was a member of the Cresaptown Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include her husband, Harry Homer Jones, a resident of the Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville; three daughters, Darlene Reckley, Woodbine, Linda Lowery, Swanton, and Deborah Jones, Cumberland; one son, Roger Jones, LaVale; two sisters, Marguerite Wales, Pasadena, and Ruth Spiker, Midland; one brother, Carl Buskirk, Frostburg; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, Cumberland. A service was conducted at the Pentecostal Holiness Church, Cumberland, on Monday, Feb. 7, with the Rev. Rodney L. Casteel Sr. officiating. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park.
CECELIA E. FIKE
Cecelia E. Fike, 65, Bruceton Mills, W.Va., died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at her home.
Born Oct. 8, 1934, in Davis, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Cecil Lee and Pearl (Lansberry) Hile.
She was a member of the Leadmine (W.Va.) United Methodist Church. She retired after 34 and one-half years as an elementary school teacher in the Bruceton Mills area.
Surviving are her husband, Blaine E. Fike; one son, Blaine "B.J." Fike, Aurora, W.Va.; one daughter, Peggy Ann Galloway, Bruceton Mills; three granddaughters; and two step-granddaughters.
Friends were received at the Carl R. Spear Funeral Home, Brandonville, W.Va., where a service was conducted Friday, Feb. 4, with the Rev. Vicki Sheppard and Pastor Donnie Savage officiating. Interment was in the Shady Grove Cemetery, Bruceton Mills.

EARL L. FRIEND
Earl L. Friend, 82, Oakland, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born May 1, 1917, in Leadmine, W.Va., he was a son of the late Franklin T. and Florence P. (Knotts) Friend. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Marian E. (Ford) Friend, in 1988, and by one son, George R. Friend.
He was a retired coal miner and farmer and was a former employee of Southern States Oakland Cooperative. He was a member of the Underwood United Brethren Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Patricia Graham, Linda Spink, and Robin Schroyer, all of Oakland; one son, Jack L. Friend, Virginia Beach, Va.; one sister, Okareta Stemple, Kingwood, W.Va.; three brothers, Ralph Friend, Richmond, Calif., Argle Friend, Mentor, Ohio, and Willard Friend, Parsons, W.Va.; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland. A service was conducted at the Underwood United Brethren Church on Saturday, Feb. 5, with the Rev. Charles Teets and the Rev. Donald Matthews officiating. Interment was in Garrett County Memorial Gardens, Oakland.
CLAUDINE M. OPEL
Claudine M. Opel, 78, Accident, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, at Concordia Lutheran Home, Cabot, Pa.
Born Feb. 26, 1921, at Keyser's Ridge, she was a daughter of the late John and Margaret (Zehner) Opel. She was also preceded in death by four sisters, Alma Opel, Mildred Wiedenheft, Edith Harman, and Alverta Opel, and by her twin brother, Clyde Opel.
She was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, Cove, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and Lutheran Braille worker. She was a braille transcriber for more than 40 years.
She graduated from Grantsville High School in 1937 and Frostburg State Teachers College in 1941. She retired as an elementary school teacher with four years of service in Baltimore County and 36 years of service at the Grantsville Elementary School. She was a member of the Garrett County and Maryland State Retired Teachers Associations and held various offices in the Garrett County association. She was also a bloodmobile volunteer.
Survivors include two sisters, Esther Opel, Accident, and Leota Boltz, Pittsburgh.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville. A service was conducted at St. John's Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, on Monday, Feb. 7, with the Rev. Douglas Kabell officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

EMMA J. PAUGH
Emma J. Paugh, 73, Wheatland, formerly of Vindex, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at the Sharon (Pa.) Regional Hospital.
Born Aug. 22, 1926, in Vindex, she was a daughter of the late William M. and Frances M. (Paugh) Sharpless.
She was a 1948 graduate of Kitzmiller High School. She served as postmistress of the Vindex Post Office from 1948 until 1965, when she moved to Sharon.
Survivors include her husband, Claude Z. Paugh; two sisters, Naomi Skotniski, Willowick, Ohio, and Dorothy Harvey, Kitzmiller; and two brothers, William Sharpless, West Newton, Pa., and Richard Sharpless, Elizabeth, Pa.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, where a service was conducted Wednesday, Feb. 9, with the Rev. Gail Hixon officiating. Interment was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Swanton.
ROSALIE LIPSCOMB
Rosalie (Richter) Lipscomb, 88, Easton, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2000, at Memorial Hospital, Easton.
Born Nov. 13, 1911, in Accident, she was a daughter of the late Adam and Helen (Sauerwald) Richter. She was also preceded in death by her stepmother, Rosa Richter; one brother, Albert Richter; and two sisters, Margaret George and Evelyn King.
A graduate of Accident High School, she worked as a beautician in Gaithersburg before beginning her career as a telephone operator for the C&P Telephone Company in Oakland. She moved to Easton in 1967 and retired in 1974 after 26 years of service with the telephone company.
She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Accident, and the Pioneers of America.
Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Louise McDonald, Houston, Texas; one sister, Catherine Armbruster, Cumberland; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, Easton. A graveside service was conducted at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Accident, on Wednesday, Feb. 9.

HARRIET E. PAYNE
Harriet Elizabeth Payne, 79, Frostburg, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Feb. 6, 1920, in Frostburg, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Alice (DeVault) Jenkins. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Warn.
She was retired from the Frostburg Hospital dietary department.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, John C. "Jack" Payne Sr.; three sons, Edward Albert Payne, Port Orange, Fla., Jack C. Payne Jr., at home, and William B. Payne, Lower New Germany Road; one sister, Jo Anne Arnold, Grahamtown; one brother, Robert Jenkins, Grahamtown; four grandsons; and one great-grandson.
Private funeral services were under the direction of the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg.
MARY C. TABLER
Mary Catherine Tabler, 87, a resident of the Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville, formerly of Cumberland, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born March 28, 1912, in Cumberland, she was a daughter of the late William J. and Mary (Himmer) Winfield. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Edgar I. Tabler; four sisters; and three brothers.
She was retired from the dietary department of Lions Manor Nursing Home. She was a former employee of Lazarus Restaurant and the Celanese Corp. She was a member of the Christian Mothers and a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
Survivors include two sons, Frederick S. Tabler, Bedford, Pa., and Dale R. Tabler, Cumberland; two brothers, Edward Winfield, Cumberland, and Joseph Winfield, Ridgeley, W.Va.; four sisters, Cecilia Newcomb, Cumberland, Margaret Martin, Frostburg, Mildred "Billie" Bruner, Cumberland, and Doris Donahoe, Cumberland; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, Cumberland, where a Christian wake service was conducted Tuesday evening.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church on Wednesday, Feb. 9, with Father Vance Pastorius, O.F.M., Cap, as celebrant. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland.
PATRICIA E. ROSSING
Patricia E. (Nevel) Rossing, 78, Liberty, Pa., died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, at Kane Regional Center, McKeesport, Pa.
Born Feb. 6, 1922, in Donora, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Ira Otis and Elizabeth (Boyer) Nevel.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, John A. Rossing; two daughters, Jone Beitzel, Accident, and Iris Paula Bauer, Selbyville, Del.; five grand-children; and two great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Willig Funeral Home, McKeesport. A service was conducted earlier today, Feb. 10, at St. Eugene's Worship Site of St. Mark's Parish, with Father Gerald Mikonis officiating. Interment was in Jefferson Memorial Park.
