BERNADINE I. COLEMAN
FROSTBURG -- Bernadine Isabelle Coleman, 74, of Cottage Lane, N.W., Frostburg, died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Jan. 28, 1927, in Loartown, she was the daughter of Martha (Jewell) Duckworth, Egle Nursing Home, and the late Dewey Duckworth. Mrs. Coleman was also preceded in death by her husband, Noah Coleman and one brother, Floyd Duckworth.
Mrs. Coleman was homemaker.
She is survived by one daughter, Sharon Pressman, LaVale; one son, Wayne Coleman and wife Janet, Zihlmen; two grandchildren, Todd Pressman and wife Lisa, LaVale, Christy Pressman, LaVale; one brother, William Duckworth, Loartown; one sister, Lorrainne Judy, Cresaptown, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Madeline Cook officiating.
Interment will be in the George H. Loar Memorial Gardens, Vale Summit.
RUBY M. DABAY
LEVELS, W.Va. -- Ruby Marshall Dabay, 69, of Levels, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001, at the Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.
Born Dec. 29, 1931, in West Groton, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Hazel (Moravia) Brind. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Elizabeth Head.
Mrs. Dabay had retired as the Administrative Assistant in the office of the Chief Scientist of the U.S. Air Force. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Women's Civic Club of Cumberland, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and the Certified Professional Secretaries Association.
Survivors include her husband, David H. Dabay; two sons, Robert Marshall III and family, Baltimore, Md., Point Borrow, Alaska, Timothy Marshall and wife Janet, Levels; one daughter, Judith Thurston and husband Richard, Richford, N.Y.; one brother, Edward Brind, Richford, N.Y.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two aunts, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Inc., Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. A memorial service will follow in the funeral home at 4 p.m. with the Rev. John J. Duffus officiating.
A Memorial service will also be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Washington and Smallwood Streets, on Monday, Aug. 27, 2001 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. John J. Duffus officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Paul's Lutheran Church Youth Group, Washington and Smallwood Streets, Cumberland MD 21502.
MABEL E. BISER
NEW CREEK, W.Va. -- Mabel Esther Crites Biser, 91, of HC 72, Box 112, New Creek, died Friday, Aug. 24, 2001.
Born on June 8, 1910, she was a daughter of the late Eugene O. and Nannie Blanche (Rotruck) Reel. Twice married, she also was preceded in death by both husbands, H. Paige Crites and Charles "Pete" Biser; two daughters, Nancy Louise Westfall Paugh and Alice A. Junkins; two great-grandsons, Jerry Lee Mercer and Kyle Crites; three sisters, I. Bessie Crites, Nellie C. Wratchford and Trixie J. Parsons; and one brother, Justin Reel.
Mrs. Biser attended the Burlington Assembly of God. She was a member of the Hill and Vale Homemakers Club and a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary to Nancy Hanks Post 3518 V.F.W., Keyser. She loved making quilts, many times designing and donating her own quilts to local organizations for fundraisers.
Surviving are three daughters, Elva E. Mercer, Youngstown, Ohio, Dorothy D. Barrick, Keyser, Katie Berg, Keyser; two sons, Ludwig L. Crites, New Creek, H. Paige Crites Jr., Rawlings, Md.; one step-daughter, Diann Corbin, Atwood; one step-son, Charles K. Biser, Keyser; one brother, David R. Reel, Marion, Va.; 29 grandchildren; 69 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and a large number of nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday at 10 a.m. at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel with the Rev. Harold Snyder officiating.
Interment will be in the Elijah High Cemetery, Purgitsville.
CHARLES R. COAKLEY SR.
CUMBERLAND -- Charles Richard Coakley Sr., 90, of the Cumberland Nursing Home, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001, at the nursing home.
Born on June 4, 1911, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Edwin R. Coakley and Viola (Cecil) Coakley Will. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Joe Coakley and Russell Coakley; a daughter-in-law, Maryland Trexler Coakley; and a granddaughter, Cathy (Coakley) Shaffer. He was the last survivng member of his immediate family.
Mr. Coakley was a retired machinist helper for the B&O Railroad. He was a member of Second Baptist Church. Mr. Coakley was well-known for riding his bike and for helping his neighbors in the Virginia Avenue area. He attended Virginia Avenue and Penn Avenue schools. He had a love of books and was an avid reader.
Surviving are his wife, Louise V. (Painter) Coakley; one son, Charles R. Coakley Jr. and special friend, Julie Neider, Frederick; two daughters, Mary Louise Harbaugh and husband Henry, Oldtown, Anna May Irons, Cumberland; nine grandchildren, Paul Coakley and wife Terri, Kelly Holler and husband Kirk, Kevin Coakley and wife Rhonda, Beverly Dills and husband Keith, Henry Harbaugh Jr. and wife Melinda, Cindy Harbaugh and husband, Tammy Blank and husband Lee, Michelle Brauner, and Kurt Gray and wife Juanita; 27 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Mildred Coakley, Rosalie Post, and Irene Painter; one brother-in-law, Tommy Painter; a special roommate, Harry Albright; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Sherrill A. Dillon officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Joe Blubaugh, Carl Benson, Jessie Moore, Lee Blank and Louis R. Wickard Sr.
CATHERINE M. LAMBERT
LONACONING -- Catherine Marie (Gray) Lambert, 79, passed away on Aug. 23, 2001, at Egle Nursing Home in Lonaconing.
Born on Feb. 26, 1922, in Lonaconing, she was the daughter of the late Harry H. Kilroy and Nellie (McGregor) Kilroy. She was married
to Lawrence Lambert who passed away on July 30, 1969.
She was in the Army from 1941-1944 in the Women's Army Core, and worked at the Seventeen Fort Polk Hospital Civil Service in Leesville, La. She graduated from Central High School in Lonaconing, and then went on to South Western College in Louisiana for two years.
Surviving are one sister, Mary Anderson of Frostburg; one granddaughter, Roxanne McCormick of Frostburg; three grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lonaconing.
Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing, Friday, Aug. 24, 2001, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, on Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, at 10 a.m. with the Father Paul Byrnes as celebrant. The body will be cremated.
Inurnment will be in Alexandria National Cemetery, Pineville, La.
J. ROBERT MASON
ELK GARDEN, W.Va. -- J. Robert (Bob) Mason, 87, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001, at the Potomac Valley Hospital in Keyser.
Born on Feb. 18, 1914, in Elk Garden, he was a son of the late James and Bertha (Burke) Mason. Bob was also preceded in death by two brothers, Fred and William Mason.
Mr. Mason was retired from Westvaco Corp., and was a Methodist by faith.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Blanche (Dixon) Mason; two sons, Pat Mason and wife Barbara of Keyser, and Bert Mason and wife Marlene of Frostburg, Md.; a brother Richard of Riverside, Calif.; and a sister, Louise Stafford of Bellingham, Wash. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Pam Smith and husband Rob of Cumberland, Md., Nancy McDonald and husband Micky of Martinsburg, Laura Breighner and husband Tom of Silver Spring, Md., Angela Mason and David Mason, both of Frostburg; and six great-grandchildren.
The body is at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home in Kitzmiller, where friends may call on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Donald E. Marple officiating.
Interment will be in the Schwinabart cemetery in Elk Garden.
