DONALD J. WARNICK
LONACONING -- Donald Joseph Warnick, 65, of Lonaconing, passed away on Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born on Feb. 7, 1936, in Barton, he was the son of the late Clarence C. Warnick and Mary Frances (Broadwater) Warnick.
He was a retired plasterer and was an Army veteran in the Korean Conflict.
Surviving are his wife, Karen Denice (Fuchs) Warnick. He has six children, Stephen Joseph Warnick, Shelby TWP, Mich., Gail Ann Warnick, Frostburg, Mary Frances Warnick, St. Clair Shores, Mich., Jenny Lyn (Warnick) Broadwater, Midland, Carol Ann Warnick, Lonaconing, and Jodie Lynne Kelly, Piedmont, S.C. He has seven brothers, Allen Warnick, Romeo, Mich., Lewis Warnick, Mt. Clemens, Mich., Vernon Warnick, Barton, Bobby Warnick, Barton, Eddie Warnick, Greenville, S.C., David Warnick, Barton, and Tommy Warnick, Lonaconing, He has nine grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He had one deceased daughter, Suzanne Mary Warnick and was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Lou (Quinn) Warnick.
He was a member of St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Barton. He was also a member of the Barton American Legion Post #189, a lifetime member of the Lonaconing VFW Post #5280, and the Barton Rod and Gun Club.
Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Barton American Legion #189, will hold a Memorial Service at 7:15 p.m. and the Lonaconing VFW Post #5280 will hold a Memorial Service at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001, at 9 a.m. with the Father Paul Byrnes officiating.
He will be buried at the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap, Flintstone. Military Rites will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
EVERETT I. SPIKER
LONACONING -- Everett I. Spiker, 89, formerly of Midland and Lonaconing, went to Heaven to be with his Lord, and joined his wife, Mary Rennie Spiker, on Aug. 18, 2001.
At the time, he was living with his daughter and son-in-law, Helen and William Wolf in Baden, Pa. He will be truly missed by many family members, friends, and business associates, all who were part of his life.
Born on Feb. 22, 1912, he was the son of the late Henry and Winifred Poland Spiker.
He attended Hill Street and Beall High Schools, worked various jobs in the coal mines, on the railroads, and the Celanese to care for his family. In 1947, he opened his auto mechanic shop in Midland, where his love of automobiles led to his successful Chrysler dealership at Lonaconing Motors in 1955. Following the next 40 years, he worked very hard winning many 5 star sales achievment awards from the Chrysler Corporation. (In 1959, a fire destroyed his complete business, but with God's help, he rebuilt to be even more successful.) He was a member of the Gospel Hall in Grahamtown for over 60 years, and was a 50 year Mason of Georges Creek Valley Lodge 161 A.F. and A.M.
Mr. Spijer leaves to mourn his passing, his three daughters and two sons-in-law whom he made his home with for the last six years, Dolores Kline, Washington, Mich., Betty Hoath and husband Ivan, Chico, Calif., Helen Wolf and husband William, Baden, Pa.; another daughter, Mary Rump, Fairborn, Ohio; three sons and three daughters-in-law, Everett A. (Ebb) and wife JoAnn, Midland, James R. and wife Jeannie, Elizabethtown, Pa., and Pastor Daniel T. and wife Jackie, Brunswick; 21 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Wilma Spiker, Frostburg; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Harry, Henry, and Raymond; one sister, Nancy Ritchey; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., 8 East Main St., Lonaconing, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 to 11 a.m.
Services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Mr. John Mark Slabaugh and Mr. Ivan Hoath officiating.
Members of the Georges Creek Valley Lodge 161 A.F. and A.M. will hold a memorial service Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be at the Mt. View Cemetery, Moscow Mills.
In lieu of flowers, and at Mr. Spiker's request, memorial contributions be made, if desired to Forbes Hopsice, 320 E. North Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15212-9199, because of the excellent care and love shown him during his lasts months.
Grandson's will be pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Alkire, James Dunn, Ray Shingler, Earl Stafford, Ralph Race, and Reginald Kyle Jr.
JOHN H. MCCARTY SR.
CUMBERLAND -- John H. McCarty Sr., 79, of Daytona Beach, Fla., died Saturday, Aug. 18, at Daytona Beach Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
Born Sept. 10, 1921, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Barney S. McCarty Sr. and Viola (Johnson) McCarty. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Rosier McCarty; a son, Robert McCarty and two sisters, Mary Ellen Beeghly and Ruth G. Frederick.
Mr. McCarty was a retired employee of the City of Daytona Beach, Fla.
Surviving are his widow, Lois Morris McCarty; five daughters, Joan Grindle, Judy Elgin, Viola Breckenridge, Debbie English and Patricia Nicholas; one son, John H. McCarty Jr.; one stepson, Sonny Rosier; one stepdaughter, Sandra Morris Saxton; two brothers, Bernard L. McCarty and Barney S. McCarty Jr., Cumberland; three sisters, Viola C. Mummert and Beatrice Mitchell, Cumberland and Dorothy J. Mercer, St. Joseph, Ill.
A memorial service will be held at Restlawn Memorial Gardens at a later date.
The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.
DANIEL H. LAGRATTA
CUMBERLAND -- A Memorial Service for Daniel H. LaGratta, 41, will be conducted at St. John's Lutheran Church on Saturday at 3 p.m. Friends will be received at the church from 1 to 3 p.m.
At Dan's request, his body was cremated at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., Crematorium.
JOHN E. RAFFERTY
MOUNT SAVAGE -- John Edward "Dipstick" Rafferty, 61, of Mount Savage, died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Nov. 22, 1939, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late John and Reta (Blank) Raffety.
Mr. Rafferty was employed by Willetts Tours and Blue and White Tours. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church.
Surviving are his wife, Eleanor (Porter) Rafferty; one son, Doug Rafferty, Mount Savage; a nephew who lived with him for 15 years, Ronald Fazenbaker; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 W Main St., Frostburg, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. with the Rev. Father William E. Moody officiating.
Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.
THERESA L. DICKEL
MORANTOWN -- Theresa L. Dickel, 75, of Morantown, died Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born May 7, 1926, in Morantown, she was the daughter of the late Nazzareno and Rosie (Bisignano) Femi. She was also predeceased by four brothers, Santino, Ernest, Arthur, and William Femi, and one sister, Romy Crato.
She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church.
Surviving are her husband, John Dickel, a resident of Frostburg Village Nursing Home; three brothers, Louis Femi and wife Dina, Frostburg, Ted Femi and wife Catherine, LaVale and Joseph Femi and wife Anna Lee, Morantown; four sisters, Madeline Femi, Morantown, Esther Pantuso, Frostburg, Patsy Myers and husband Leroy, Cumberland, and Rosalie Peck and husband Donald, Frostburg; a sister-in-law, Jacqueline Yantz, W.Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 44 E. Main St., Frostburg, on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Father Paul A. Byrnes as celebrant.
Her body will then be cremated.
Private inurnment will be held at Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Michael's School, 56 E. Main St., Frostburg MD 21532.
