JOSEPH M. CARTER
LONACONING - Josephine Marie (Knapp) Carter, 87, of 7 E. Railroad St., Lonaconing, and recently of the Egle Nursing Home, Lonaconing, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 1999, at the nursing home.
Born May 3, 1912, in Lonaconing, she was a daughter of the late William and Mary Ann (Wilson) Knapp. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Leo J. Carter Sr., in 1965; her son, Leo J. Carter Jr., in 1963; and two brothers, John Knapp and George Knapp.
Mrs. Carter was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Lonaconing, and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are four daughters, JoAnn Sloan and husband Gary, Lonaconing, Sandy Smith and husband John, Williamsburg, Va., Pat Russell and husband Butch, Lonaconing, and Kelly Gough and husband David, Centreville; grandchildren, Kathy Ansel, Mark Smith, Chris Smith and Shawn Russell; great-grandchildren, Andy Ansel, Christopher Smith, Emily Smith, Danny Smith, Elizabeth Smith and Brian Smith; and many special nieces and nephews. She also is survived by two sisters-in-law, Edna Downton and Ann Scott; special neighborhood grandchildren, Tammy, Donnie, Brian and Krista; and her caring family at the Egle Nursing Home.
The family will receive friends at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing, Friday, Aug. 6, 1999, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A Christian Wake Service will be conducted at the funeral home Friday at 7:30 p.m. with Sister Marietta Culhane, OSF Pastoral Life Director of St. Mary's Catholic Church, officiating.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Lonaconing, Saturday, Aug. 7, 1999, at 9:30 a.m. with Father Erik Arnold as celebrant.
Interment will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
The family requests that donations in Mrs. Carter's memory be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church or the Egle Nursing Home.
DALE L. CRABTREE
CORRIGANVILLE - Dale Landon Crabtree, 63, of 11115 Charlotte Ave., Corriganville, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Surviving in addition to his family is a very special aunt, Marguerite Osborne and husband Wade, Johnson City, Tenn.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted there Friday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Rebecca Vardiman officiating.
Interment will be in the Maryland Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap.
Pallbearers will be Ron Sheally, Wayne Logsdon, Frank Morgan, Lee Smith, Kenneth Wade, and Kenneth Fike.

REV. IRVIN G. ALLEN
OLDTOWN - The Rev. Irvin Glenwood "Cy"Allen, 85, of Oldtown, died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born June 23, 1913, in Green Spring, W.Va., he was the son of the late Edward Joseph and Linnie (Biser) Allen. He also was preceded in death by three brothers, Edgar, Leroy and Willard Allen.
Rev. Allen was a retired minister for Bethel United Methodist Church in Cumberland. He was a former employee of the Celanese Corp. and retired from Hercules Inc. in December 1975.
He was a 1932 graduate of Romney High School and a graduate of the Chandler School of Theology at Emory University. He was ordained as a deacon in 1959 and as a Full Elder of the United Methodist Church in 1961.
He was currently a member of the Oldtown United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Baltimore Conference of the United Methodist Church. He had served as a pastor in the United Methodist Church since 1954, serving the Mount Fairview United Methodist Church on Irons Mountain, Prosperity United Methodist Church, Pleasant Valley Road, and Oakdale United Methodist Church in Pennsylvania.
He was a member of the Royal Arch Chapter, Antioch Commandry 6, Knights Templar, and East Gate Lodge 216 AF & AM. He was a former member of the Oldtown Volunteer Fire Department, member and past president of the Oldtown PTA, and charter member of the Oldtown Sportsmen Club. He served on the Maryland Bicentennial Committee and was treasurer of the Maryland Historical Trust committee.
Rev. Allen was the owner and founder of the Michael Cresap Museum, the oldest house in Allegany County, which was built in 1764 in Oldtown. He was instrumental in preserving this building, saving it from being demolished in the early 1960s, thus providing this historic treasure for the citizens of Allegany County. A local historian, he was the author of the book, "Historic Oldtown, Maryland, "and he was a local columnist, writing a local history column for the Cumberland Times-News.
Surviving are his wife, Marjorie Virginia "Jenny"(Haugh) Allen; two daughters, Judith Allen O'Hara and husband William, Williamsport, and Jilla D. Allen Smith and husband Donald, Washington, D.C.; one grandson, Timothy Allen O'Hara, Williamsport; four step-grandchildren, Jennifer Winegarner and husband Jim, Anchorage, Alaska, Douglas S. Smith and wife Lisa, Denver, Colo., Linda A. Smith, M.D., Pittsburgh, and David M. Smith and wife Christy, Atlanta, Ga.; one sister, Leona Croston, Romney, W.Va.; and one brother, Millard Allen and wife Elma, Furnace Acres, W.Va.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The East Gate Lodge 216 will hold a memorial service at the funeral home Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Charles W. Sisk officiating.
Interment will be in the Oldtown United Methodist Cemetery.
Flowers may be sent, or donations may be made to the Oldtown Rescue Squad.
MARY VIRGINIA COTE
WESTERNPORT - Mary Virginia (Gleeson) Cote, 76, of Moran Manor Nursing Home, formerly of Piedmont, W.Va., died Monday, March 22, 1999, at the nursing home.
Born Jan. 1, 1923, in Piedmont, she was the daughter of the late Joseph S. Gleeson and Mary C. (Mullen) Gleeson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Jay Cote Jr.; and two sisters, Anna Louise Gleeson and Susan J. Gleeson. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Cote graduated from St. Peter's School in 1940, earned her bachelor's degree from Youngstown University, and received her nursing degree from St. Agnes Hospital School of Nursing, Baltimore, in 1944.
Mrs. Cote retired from the State of Maryland having been a registered nurse for 50 years. She was Catholic by faith and a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Westernport, and was a member of the American Nursing Association.
She is survived by her cousins, John A. Martin and wife, Janet, Westernport, Mary M. Meyers and husband, Jack, Westernport; one step son, Father Joseph Cote, Baltimore; and numerous relatives.
Friends will be received at Fredlock Funeral Home on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m., and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter's Catholic Church on Friday at 11:30 a.m. with Father Joseph Cote and Father Jim Hannon officiating.
Interment will be held at St. Peter's Cemetery, Westernport.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Peter's Catholic Church or to St. Peter's School, Westernport, MD.
MARGUERITE E. BEDILLION
WESTERNPORT - Marguerite Elizabeth (Welsh) Bedillion, 91, loving Mother and Nana, of St. Joseph Assisted Care Residence, Louisville, Ohio, died Monday, Aug. 23, 1999, after a brief illness.
Born in Canton, Ohio on Nov. 22, 1907, she was the daughter of the late John and Ethel White. She also was preceded in death by her husband Samuel Bedillion in 1988; a son, Charles Welsh in 1947; and a brother, Russell White.
Marguerite lived most of her adult life in Westernport, having worked for Celanese Corp., Jakes Cocktail Lounge, and Wagners Drug Store. Mrs. Bedillion was a member of Christ United Methodist Church of Louisville, Ohio.
She is survived by two sons, Orin Welsh and wife Jeanne of Canton, Ohio, and Arthur Welsh and wife Shirley of Louisville, Ohio; a daughter, Marguerite A. Stowell and husband Bill of Louisville; 10 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; seven step-great- grandchildren; and three step-great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 9 a.m. with the Rev. John Footen officiating. Interment will be in the Philos Cemetery.
JOHN F. CHISHOLM SR.
CUMBERLAND - John Freeman Chisholm Sr., 91, of 13214 Frantz Hollow Road, NE, Cumberland, formerly of Fairview Avenue, Cumberland, died Monday, July 12, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 29, 1907, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late John Freeman Chisholm and the late Emma Margaret (Riehl) Chisholm. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Helena (Adams) Chisholm; and two brothers, Frank and Robert "Sparky" Chisholm.
Mr. Chisholm was retired from the insurance department of the Kelly-Springfield Tire Co. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Surviving are a son, John F. "Jack" Chisholm Jr. and wife Shirley, Cumberland; two grandsons, Richard S. Chisholm and wife Yvette, Gaithersburg, and David E. Chisholm and wife Sheri, Frederick; and two great-granddaughters, Alicia and Tyler.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. John J. Duffus officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
