MARGARET AZAR
CUMBERLAND - Margaret Azar, 87, of St. Vincent DePaul Nursing Center, Frostburg, formerly of Cumberland, died Tuesday, May 25, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born March 13, 1912, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Morgan and Margaret (Kayden) Wood. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Azar, in 1989.
Mrs. Azar was a homemaker and a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church.
Surviving are her daughter, Sister Mary Ann Azar, Emmitsburg; one brother, Francis Davey Wood, Cumberland; one sister, Betty Wood, Cumberland; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A Christian Wake service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church on Thursday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Vance Pastorius O.F.M. Cap. officiating.
Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

ELLEN I. CREIGHTON
LONACONING - Ellen Ingles Creighton, 96, of Egle Nursing Home, Lonaconing, formerly of 19 Douglas Ave., Lonaconing, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 1999, at the nursing home.
Born on Dec. 25, 1902, in Lonaconing, she was the daughter of the late David E. Creighton and Catherine (McCann) Creighton.
Miss. Creighton was retired from the American Store with 34 years of service, she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lonaconing, Morning Star Temple 1 Pythian Sisters, Lonaconing, where she was Past Chief, and she was a Charter Member of the Goodwill Volunteer Fireman's Ladies Auxiliary, Lonaconing.
Surviving are one brother, Marshall Creighton, Moran Manor, Westernport; nieces, Maxine Kiddy and husband, Faye, Colleen Andrews and husband, William; nephews, Calvin Bready and wife, Jan, Frank Bready, Jr., and wife, Nadine, Raymond Ralston and wife, Mary Jane, John Murry Ralston, Charles Stuby and wife, Joanna, Robert Creighton and wife, Cheryl; great-nieces, Catherine Miller and husband, Tim, and Jesica Stuby; great-nephews, Ray Kiddy and wife, Lori, and Jason Stuby.
The family will receive friends at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing, Friday, Dec. 3, 1999, from 2 to 4 p.m., only, there will be no evening visitation.
Services will be conducted at the First Presbyterian Church of Lonaconing, Saturday, Dec. 4, 1999, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Peter Leathersich, officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to services.
Interment will be in the Frostburg Memorial Park, Frostburg.

RICHARD L. CARTER
FROSTBURG - Richard Lee Carter, 42, of Martin's Lane, Frostburg, died Sunday, May 9, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born March 15, 1957, in Frostburg, he was the son of Harold Richard Carter and the late Pauline (Barrett) Carter.
Mr. Carter was an employee at D'Atri's Restaurant in LaVale. He was a member of the Eckhart United Methodist Church, Eckhart, and a graduate of Beall High School.
Surviving in addition to his father are two sisters, Deborah Ann Reckart and Janice Lynn Carter, both of Frostburg; a niece, Jessica Reckart; a nephew, Jason Reckart; and a special friend, Anna Radcliffe, Frostburg.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. George M. Harpold officiating.
Interment will be in the Eckhart cemetery followed by Fellowship time at the Eckhart Methodist Church, Eckhart.
ELLEN N. ABBOTT
CUMBERLAND - Ellen N. Abbott, 78, of Cumberland, died Wednesday, May 5, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.
Born June 9, 1920, in Westernport, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Emma Alexander. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ellis Burton Abbott, in 1947; six brothers; and two sisters. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Abbott was a retired hairdresser and cosmetologist. She was a former inspector for the Board of Cosmetology. She was a member of Central Assembly of God Church and the McKinley Chapter #12 Order of the Eastern Star.
Surviving are one son, Edward T. Abbott and wife, Judy, Cumberland; one granddaughter, Heather Robison and husband, Shannon, LaVale; and one great-grandson, Taylor Robison.
There will be no visitation.
Funeral services will be conducted at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Harry Copen officiating.
Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.

HELEN B. CHRISTIE
LUFKIN, Texas - Services for Helen Blaker Christie, 73, of Lufkin, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Henderson Chapel at the First United Methodist Church in Lufkin with Dr. Jack Shoultz and Dr. Keith Whitaker officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mrs. Christie was born Nov. 15, 1925, in Cumberland, Md., to the late Ethel Rosanna (Twigg) and Sherman Washington Blaker. She died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1999, at her residence.
Mrs. Christie was a retired registered nurse and a longtime resident of Lufkin. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. Mrs. Christie was a member of ACBL, the Lufkin Junior League (Sustainers), a member of the Ladies Golf Association at the Lufkin Country Club, and former member of the Memorial Medical Center Auxiliary.
Survivors include her sons, Mark Christie and Michael Christie, both of Lufkin; sisters, Hilda B. Mitchell of Lufkin and Marian B. Sams of Stone Mountain, Ga.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorotha B. and Eugene Hare of Cumberland, Md., and Margaret B. and Edward Diehl of Sebring, Fla.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Christie was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy D. Christie, in February 1989; and by two sisters, Justine B. Dugdale and Willa B. Valentine.

LILLIAN E. ARBOGAST
CUMBERLAND - Lillian E. (Whalley) Arbogast, 91, of the Devlin Manor Nursing Home, formerly of Booth Towers, Cumberland, died Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, at the nursing home.
Born Nov. 8, 1907, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Lillie (Kitzmiller) Whalley. She also was preceded in death by her husband, George L. Arbogast; three sisters, Ruth, Marion and Helen Whalley; and three brothers, John, Thomas and Robert Whalley.
Mrs. Arbogast was retired from Vandergrifs Music Store and was a lifelong member of Grace Methodist Church, and until later years, was active in the Ladies Group. She was an avid gardener and a great crafter, and she enjoyed talking about Cumberland's early history.
Surviving are one brother, Joseph Whalley, and one sister, Margaret Brooks, both of Cumberland; and many nieces and nephews.
At her request, Mrs. Arbogast will be cremated. There will be no visitation or service.

BRIAN G. AYERS
FROSTBURG - Brian Gene Ayers, 51, of 1553 Pocahontas Road, Frostburg, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Jan. 4, 1948, in Baltimore, he was the son of Esther R. (White) Ayers, of Towson, and the late William H. Ayers.
Surviving in addition to his mother are a sister, Marlene Foley, West Virginia; two brothers, Wayne Ayers, Tennessee, and Barry Ayers, Pennsylvania; and a partner of 16 years, Lucia Ayers, Finzel.
Mr. Ayers' wishes were that he be cremated at the Cumberland Crematory.
No services are scheduled at this time.
