ELOISE R. CALLIS
MOUNTAIN LAKE PARK - Eloise R. Callis, 69, of 309 Seneca Ave., Mountain Lake Park, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 1999, at her home.
Born March 14, 1930, in Rowlesburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Arthur E. Friend and Emma (Moon) Friend. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Melvin "Buss" Callis, in 1988.
Surviving are two sons, M. Douglas Callis, of Oakland, and Brian E. Callis, of Mountain Lake Park; one brother, Donald Friend, of Mountain Lake Park; and three grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Mountain Lake Independent Baptist Church, on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dennis Leatherman, officiating. Friends may call the church one half hour prior to services.
Interment will be in the Oakland Cemetery.
MATTIE R. BLACKLIN
HAGERSTOWN - Mattie Ruth Blacklin, 90, formerly of 610 Bedford St., Cumberland, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, at the home of her son on Daley Road, Hagerstown.
Born March 15, 1908, in Witmer, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Elizabeth (Oates) Montgomery. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Charles. E. Blacklin, in 1988.
Surviving are one son, Thomas E. Blacklin; two grandsons, Thomas Steven Blacklin, and John E. Blacklin; and one great-granddaughter, Tara Blacklin.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
The Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg, is in charge of arrangements.
BERNARD R. COLE
CUMBERLAND - Bernard Ray Cole, 71, of Cumberland, died Thursday, July 15, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.
Born April 22, 1928, in McCoole, he was the son of the late Harry Edgar and Mary Catherine (Wolfe) Cole. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Dolores Marie Cole, June 22, 1997.
Mr. Cole was a retired mechanic for the Cumberland Housing Authority after 33 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, and was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Cumberland, and the Cumberland VFW #1411.
Surviving are three sons, Donald W. Cole and wife, Betty, Bernard R. Cole and wife, Jean, all of Cumberland, David L. Cole and wife, Valerie, Frederick; one daughter, Joyce Ann Cole Hansford, Cumberland; one brother, Marvin June Cole, Florida; two sisters, Joyce Elaine Davis, Williamsport, W.Va., Katherine Ann Parsons, Romney, W.Va.; six grandsons, Donald and Kelly Cole, Clyde and Mark Hansford, David and Christopher Cole; one step-grandson, Joshua Cole; one great-grandson, David Cole III; and one great-granddaughter, Alisa M. Hansford.
Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home Monday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Max Greenfield officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland. Graveside military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
OTIS L. BEAN
ELLICOTT CITY - Otis Leroy Bean, 75, of Ellicott City, formerly of Cumberland, died Monday, July 12, 1999, at Howard County General Hospital, Columbia.
Born July 19, 1923, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Jacob and Blanche (Peer) Bean. He also was preceded in death by one brother, Irvin "Bud" Bean.
He was a 1941 graduate of Fort Hill High School and received his associate's degree from Johns Hopkins University.
Mr. Bean was a retired Materials Standards Officer for the CSX Railroad, Baltimore, and was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict.
Surviving are his wife, Eleanor Elizabeth (Smith) Bean; one daughter, Debra Ann Hart and husband, Alex, Woodstock; two sons, Richard Otis Bean, Ellicott City, Robert Christopher Bean and wife, Sherry, Eldersburg; one grandson, Matthew Richard Bean, Ellicott City; and a number of cousins.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake Service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 8:45 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church on Saturday at 10 a.m. with Fr. Vernon Busch, O.F.M., Cap. as celebrant.
Interment will be in SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery.
Military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Shelley, John Ballou, Eugene Hook, Eugene Hare, Eugene Light and Boyd Wade.
The family requests contributions be made to the American Heart Association or to the National Kidney Foundation.
CHESTER C. COOPER
CUMBERLAND - Chester C. Cooper, 87, of the Kensington-Algonquin Apartments, formerly of Booth Towers, died Friday, July 2, 1999, at his residence.
Born June 14, 1912, in Davis, W.Va., he was the son of the late William S. and Gertrude (Weimer) Cooper.
Mr. Cooper was retired from the White Trucking Company, Cleveland, Ohio.
Surviving are one sister, Mary M. Growden, Cumberland; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Graveside services will be conducted at Fellowship Cemetery, Centerille, Pa., Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Timothy L. Monn officiating.

BEL AIR - Carl Joseph Bechie, 85, of Bel Air, died Friday, July 9, 1999, at the Allegany County Nursing Home, Cumberland.
Born Oct. 8, 1913, in Vale Summit, he was the son of the late John and Mary (O'Grince) Bechie. He also was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Mr. Bechie was retired from the Celanese Corporation, Cumberland. He was a member of the St. Ambrose Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the Allegany County Beagle Club.
Surviving are his wife, A. Marie (Clise) Bechie; three sons, Carl William Bechie and wife, Shirley, LaVale, John Paul Bechie, Chillicothe, Ohio, Thomas E. Bechie, Bel Air; one sister, Elizabeth Cook and husband, Frosty, Midland; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., Cresaptown, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Fr. Reginald Russo, O.F.M., Cap. officiating.
