CUMBERLAND - On March 7, 1999, Cornelia D. Redmond Chavez, 51, of Baltimore, formerly of Cumberland, was called home by the Lord.
Connie was the loving wife of Michael Chavez, devoted mother of Tracey Allen Smith, New Mexico, and Veronica Jessica Smith.
She is survived by her mother, Elizabeth Redmond, Baltimore; five sisters, Juanita Redmond Hurt, New York, Mary Redmond, Baltimore, Debra Redmond Turner, Baltimore, Delorse Redmond Gibson, Baltimore, Dianna Redmond, Baltimore; three brothers, Vernon Junior Redmond, Cumberland, Michael Redmond, Baltimore, Gary Redmond, New Mexico; four nephews; nine nieces; eight great-nieces; and a host of relatives and friends.
Connie was a well-known vocalist. She toured world wide with recording artist Bo Diddly and other well-known recording artists.
Services will be held at the March Funeral Home, 4300 Wabash Ave., Baltimore, MD 21215, at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, March 11, 1999. Viewing will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, 1999.

MERVIN A. CLARK
BARTON - Mervin Andrew Clark, 76, of 20406 Old Miller Road, Barton, died Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born on July 2, 1923, he was the son of the late Edgar and Myrtle (Montgomery) Clark. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Joan (McGrath) Clark, in 1981; a brother, Thomas Clark; a sister, Mildred (Clark) McDonald; and two granchildren, Jeffrey and Jennifer MacMillan.
Mr. Clark was a 1941 graduate of Barton High School. He served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Biloxi during World War II. He was retired from the Celanese Corporation. He was also retired from the Allegany County Board of Education, where he worked as a bus driver for the Transportation Department. He was a member of the Barton Alumni Association, the Barton American Legion Post 189, and the Over 50 Club of Romney. He was a member of St. Gabriel's Church, Barton.
Mr. Clark is survived by three daughters, Marie Magruder and husband Donald, Barton, Joan Beeman and husband Mike, Lonaconing, Jean McMillan and husband Bob, Barton; a brother, James Clark and wife Barbara, Barton; a sister, Doretha Richman Malick and husband Adrian, Ormond, Fla.; six grandchildren, Kenny Magruder, Michele Colvin and husband Graig, Crystal Beeman, Eric Beeman, Kelly MacMillan, Andrea MacMillan; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Frankie Barron, Augusta, W.Va.
The family will receive friends at the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton, on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mass of a Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Gabriel's Church, Barton, on Tuesday, Sept. 14, at 11 a.m. with the Father James Hannon officiating.
The Barton American Legion will hold a memorial service at the Chapel on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
Interment will be in the Mountain View Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to St. Gabriel's Church.
ANNA M. BROOKMAN
CUMBERLAND - Anna Margaret Brookman, 97, of Cumberland, died Saturday, July 10, 1999, at her residence.
Born Jan. 4, 1902, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Mary Rebecca (Handel) Hausman. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Frank Shultz, and her second husband, Edward G. Brookman. She was also preceded in death by one granddaughter, Maria Sharon Boyd; and 15 brothers and sisters. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Brookman was a homemaker. She was a lifelong member of Zion Reformed United Church of Christ, and was a former member of the Church Choir. She was a Sunday School teacher for 81 years until her death. She participated in all of the activities of her church. She and Mr. Brookman volunteered their services for many years by transporting families to and from Baltimore hospitals for the Allegany County League for Crippled Children. She was a very special woman loved by everyone who met her, and she will be deeply missed.
Surviving are three daughters, M. Elaine Veronneau and husband, Donald, Burlington, Vt ., C. Eloise Corwell and husband, Donald, Ridgeley, W.Va., Marjorie A. Boyd and husband, Dennis, Cumberland; two sons, Edward F. Shultz and wife, Wanda, Conyers, Ga., Joseph E. Brookman, with whom she resided; two sisters-in-law, Rozella Lehman, Peggy Hausman, Cumberland; 25 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. William B. Shrout Jr. officiating.
Interment will be in SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Cumberland.
ESPY T. BARLEY
CUMBERLAND - Espy T. Barley, 91, of Cumberland, died Saturday, July 17, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Dec. 4, 1907, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late William F. and Agnes (Lehman) Barley. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Sarah M. (Brown) Barley, in 1993.
Mr. Barley was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church.
He retired as a supervisor with Pepsi-Cola after 38 years of service.
Mr. Barley was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II and was a member of the Fort Cumberland Post No. 13 American Legion, Cumberland.
Surviving are one brother, Richard Barley and wife, Olive, Mission Viejo, Calif; a sister-in-law, Dona Jean Appel, Hancock, and her family; three nieces, Patricia Barley, Washington, Pa., Carol Stansbury and Linda Watkins, both of California; two nephews, Leonard Barley, Baltimore, and Larry Barley, California.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A Christian Wake Service will be held at the funeral home Wednesday at 8:45 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church on Thursday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Vance Pastorius, O.F.M., Cap. as celebrant.
Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Gardens.
MILDRED A. CLEM
CUMBERLAND - Mildred (Mickey) Arletta Fisher Clem, 86, of Oldtown Road, Cumberland, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999.
Born Dec. 16, 1912, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late George W. Fisher and Willa Mae Grayson Fisher. She also was preceded in death by her husband, James V. Clem; four sisters, Wauneta Fisher, Edith Mangus, Moleta Tipton and Meta Adams; and one brother, William Fisher Sr.
Surviving are one son, William V. Clem and wife Madeline; one granddaughter, Christine C. Ninteau and husband Richard; one grandson, David V. Clem; and two great-granddaughters, Kelsey Grayson and Hayley Elizabeth Ninteau, all of Branford, Conn.
Mrs. Clem was a member of the Centre Street United Methodist Church in Cumberland, and retired from G & C Murphy's in 1974. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed many years with her family and dear friends.
Family and friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999, from 9 to 10 a.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home Saturday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Lloyd McCanna and the Rev. William Bice from the Centre Street United Methodist Church officiating.
Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Cumberland.
Pallbearers will be Charles Robinson, Jerry Robinson, Gary Lee Adams, Robert Adams, James Root and Jack Andrews.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Centre Street United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 217 North Centre St., Cumberland, MD 21502.

GEORGE E. ALLEN
HAGERSTOWN - George Edward Allen, 76, of 2010 Starlight Lane, Hagerstown, died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, at his home.
Born Jan 18, 1923, in Berea, Ky., he was the son of the late Blevins P. and Nora Elizabeth (Obenchain) Allen.
Mr. Allen is survived by his wife, Mary A. Allen; two daughters, Jane E. Gleason of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and Gail Louise Rastelli of Ashburn, Va: one son, James E. Allen of Woodbridge, Va.; two brothers, John W. Allen of Berea, Ky., and B.P. Allen of Middletown, Ohio; and two grandchildren, Jennifer and Daniel Allen of Woodbridge, Va.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Menze and Ruth Pennycuff.
There will be a Celebration of Life service at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.
The Rev. John Ailstock will officiate.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family in the Columbarium in Arlington National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Saturday before the service.
