HOWARD T. ALLEN SR.
CUMBERLAND - Howard T. Allen Sr., 53, of Cumberland, died Wednesday, April 7, 1999, at his home.
Born May 20, 1945, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late William V. and Viola (Bishop) Allen.
Mr. Allen was a retired employee of the Schmidts Bakery after 28 and one-half years of service. He attended Mount Tabor United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Sandra (James) Allen; three daughters, Susan K. McCombs and husband Benjamin, Desuniak Springs, Fla., Melissa D. Bartlett and husband Charles, Oldtown, and Crystal L. Bohrer and husband Brian, Slanesville, W.Va.; one adopted granddaughter, Victoria A. Allen; two sons, Howard T. Allen Jr. and wife Linda, Cumberland, Gary W. Allen and wife Sandra, Lonaconing; 10 grandchildren, William, Ethan, Samantha, Matthew, Joshua, Ashley, Celeste, Angela, Kristen and Sarah; one brother, Charles V. Allen and wife Joyce, Charlotte, N.C.; five sisters, Arvalene Walters, Oldtown, Opal Dolly, Flintstone, Josephine McDonald and husband Joe, Beltsville, Sandy Wentling and husband Lawrence, Corriganville, and Janet Magrogan and husband Ted, Beltsville.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave. Cumberland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Fred Parker officiating.
Interment will be in the Mount Tabor Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Harold Martin, Lance Bennett, Calvin Dolan, Pete Humbertson, Larry Wentling, Rickey Day, Jeff Imes and James Whisner.

OLDTOWN - Friends will be received for The Rev. Irvin Glenwood Allen at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 1 p.m.
Interment will be in Oldtown United Methodist Church Cemetery.
ROSITA V. AUSENA
LAVALE - Rosita Visperas Ausena, age 55, of 14410 National Highway, LaVale, died Friday, March 12, 1999, as the result of an automobile accident.
Born May 29, 1943, in Tayug Pangasinan, Philippines, she was the daughter of the late Eugenio and Clara (Alcisto) Visperas. She was also preceded in death by two brothers.
Mrs. Ausena was a self-employed sitter for the elderly.
Surviving are her husband, Ernesto Ausena; five daughters, Teresita Damey, Myrna Ausena, Jacqueline Ballugo, Rose Marie Orate, all of the Philippines, and Josephine Schoenian, Frostburg; one brother, Mamerto Visperas; two sisters, Mary Visperas and Fely Farrales, all of the Philippines; 15 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services and interment will be held in the Philippines.
THOMAS OLIVER BENDER
GRANTSVILLE - Thomas Oliver Bender, 71, of 187 Grant St., Grantsville, died Sunday, June 6, 1999, at his residence.
Born Sept. 11, 1927, in Grantsville, he was a son of the late Charles O. and Mabel (Custer) Bender. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Richard C. Bender.
Mr. Bender was a retired co-owner of the former Casselman Motor Company. He was a 1944 graduate of Grantsville High School and was a member of St. Johns United Church of Christ. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a life member of the Grantsville Post #214, American Legion. He was a past secretary-treasurer of the Grantsville Rotary Club, past president and treasurer of Woodmen of the World, Camp 41, and member of the Legion of Leaders in General Motors sales.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis I. (Wagner) Bender; a son, Thomas Larry Bender, Grantsville; two daughters, Deborah Myers, Germantown, Susan Yoder, South Jordan, Utah; three brothers, Charles C. Bender and William D. Bender, both of Grantsville, Joseph F. Bender, Springs, Pa.; a sister, Ann Corderman, Hagerstown; and eight grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., Grantsville, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at St. Johns United Church of Christ on Thursday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Earl Yoder officiating. Interment will be in the Grantsville Cemetery.
Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services.
HOBERT F. BENNETT
MOUNT SAVAGE - Hobert Franklin Bennett, 79, of 14004 Mount Savage Road, N.W., Mount Savage, died Monday, July 26, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born March 9, 1920, in Mount Savage, he was the son of the late Frank P. and Dora E. (Orndorff) Bennett. He also was preceded in death by three sisters, Wilda Petenbrink, Mabel Russell and Amy Richardson.
Mr. Bennett was retired from the Maryland Dept. of Natural Resurces vehicle maintenance dept. at Green Ridge State Forest.
He was a member of the Mount Savage United Methodist Church, Farrady Post No. 24 American Legion, Haystack Mountain Sportsman's Club, Disabled American Veterans, AARP, and was a lifetime member of Mount Savage VFW Post No. 6025.
Surviving are his wife, Ethel Viola (Witt) Bennett, Frostburg; a brother, Harold Bennett, Cresaptown; four nieces, Debbie Rizer, Stephens City, Helen Pfeiffer, Cumberland, Nancy Deihl, Cresaptown, Ellen Richardson, Baltimore; and three nephews, James Sweene, Omaha, Neb., Robert Bennett, Rawlings, and John Bennett, Frostburg.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Richard C. Broome Jr. officiating.
Interment will be in the Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale. Military honors will be accorded at graveside by the combined Military Honor Guards from the Farrady Post No. 24 and VFW Post No. 6025.
DALE E. ATCHLEY
CUMBERLAND - Dale Enoch Atchley, 56, of Trail Ridge Road, BelAir, Cumberland, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born May 8, 1943, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Samuel Enoch and Ada (Holland) Atchley.
Mr. Atchley was a member of the LaVale Chapel Assembly of God Church, was a U.S. Air Force veteran, and was a 28 year employee of CSX Transportation employed as Assistant Manager of Claims for the Cumberland Division.
Survivors are his wife, Donna (Taylor) Atchley; a son, Jonas Christopher Atchley, York, Pa.; two sisters, Jean Baer, Bay Side, N.Y., and Jewell George, Baltimore; a brother, Denis Atchley, Shrewsbury, Pa.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Hwy., LaVale, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Friday at 1:30 p.m. with the Pastor Steve Schuessler officiating.
Interment will follow in the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap.
JAMES W. CONNERS
CUMBERLAND - James W. Conners, 66, of Moran Manor Nursing Home, formerly of Maryland Avenue, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 1999, at the nursing home.
Born Oct. 19, 1932, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Francis William and Nora Katherine (Hoadley) Conners. He was also preceded in death by a special friend, Mildred Martin.
Surviving are five sisters, Delores Crockett and husband Edward, Baltimore, Louise Goodman, Berea, Ohio, Betty Lindner and husband Allan, Fla., Carol Davis and husband, Lloyd, Spring Gap, Patricia Dolly and husband, Roy, Jr., Rawlings; two brothers, Dale Conners and wife Peggy, Tenn., Michael Conners, Rocky Gap, Cumberland; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 12 p.m. with the Rev. Edward L. Davy, officiating.
Interment will be in the Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Patrick Conners, David Dolly, Robert Smith, Tim Farrell, Brian Oster, and Richard Hartman.
