JOSEPH S. ARNONE
CUMBERLAND - Joseph Samuel Arnone, 92, formerly of the JFK Apartments, Mechanic Street, and residing at the Devlin Manor Nursing Home, Cumberland, died Saturday, Nov. 20, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 15, 1907, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late Luigi Arnone and Concetta (Gualtieri) Arnone. He also was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Wanetta (Sharretts) Arnone, on Oct. 23, 1980.
Mr. Arnone was a retired salesman for Witmer Foods. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Cumberland, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 245, and a charter member of the Cumberland "Has Beens."
Surviving are two sons, Louis J. Arnone, Lady Lake, Fla., and Robert H. Arnone, Hagerstown; one daughter-in-law, Mary Lou Arnone, Cumberland; two granddaughters, Michele Crabtree and husband Jesse, Cumberland, and Lisa Chance; six grandsons, Louis Arnone Jr., Alan Arnone and fiancee Krista Cross, Michael Arnone, Robert Moser and wife Chris, Leonard Moser and wife Sharon, and Jeff Moser and wife Debbie; 12 great-grandchildren, including a special great-granddaughter, Brandi Nies, an Army specialist stationed at Goodfellow AFB in San Angelo, Texas, of whom he was very proud; and numerous nieces and nephews, including two special nephews, the Rev. Robert Passarelli and Paul Passarelli, both of Frostburg.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 245 will conduct a memorial service at 7:30 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Robert Passarelli officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
MELVIN V. ALBRIGHT
BOONSBORO - Melvin V. Albright, 77 years, of Sharpsburg Pike, Boonsboro, died Monday at his home.
Born Jan. 18, 1922, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late James Marshall and Myrtle Fatkin Albright.
He was employed by the Maryland Correctional Institution, retiring in 1978, and later was employed by the Washington County Hospital. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theatre. He was of the Protestant faith. He was a member of Antietam Post #236 American Legion, Sharpsburg.
He is survived by his wife, Erma J. Speir Albright; two daughters, Bella Ann Carter, Damascus, and Connie J. Brown, Hagerstown; one son, James H. Albright, Hagerstown; two brothers, Thomas Albright, Boca Raton, Fla., and Louis Albright, Frostburg; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Marshall Albright.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Richard A. Wilson officiating.
Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Sharpsburg.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Church of the Nazarene, 141 N. Edgewood Drive, Hagerstown, MD 21740, or to the charity of one's choice.
CATHERINE ANTHONY
PASADENA - Catherine 'Rene' (McDermott) Anthony, 82, registered nurse and longtime resident of Pasadena, Md., formerly of Cumberland, died May 1, 1999, at home.
Born in Cumberland, April 4, 1917, she was the daughter of the late James Leo 'Sug' McDermott and Mary Grace (Long) McDermott. She also was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Elizabeth 'Tibby' (McDermott) Anthony.
She was a graduate of St. Mary's High School and of the Sacred Heart School of Nursing, both in Cumberland. Before moving to Pasadena in 1942, she worked for Dr. Conrad Zimmerman, a surgeon in Cumberland. After raising her family, she returned to nursing in 1961 as a staff nurse at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore. She was a dedicated nurse who was well-respected by doctors and nurses. She retired from St. Agnes in September 1976.
She was a member of St. Jane Frances Catholic Church in Pasadena, and was active in the seniors group of the church. She also was a volunteer at the St. Jane Frances School and for the Foster Grandparents Program of Anne Arundel County.
She was a devoted bingo player, and traveled to Hawaii and throughout Europe. Her other hobbies included swimming and ceramics.
Surviving are her husband of 57 years, Joseph M. Anthony Sr. of Pasadena; a son, Joseph M. Anthony Jr. of Pasadena; and a daughter, Cathleen 'Cappy' Jarboe and husband H. Eugene 'Gene' Jarboe, of Severna Park.
Mass of Christian Burial was offered on May 4 on St. Jane Frances Church in Pasadena. Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Baltimore.
The family requests that memorial contributions me made to the charity of the donor's choice.
Funeral arrangements were by the George J. Gonce Funeral Home, Baltimore.
ROY F. ARNOLD
OAKLAND - Graveside inurnment services for Roy Franklin Arnold, who died earlier this month, will be conducted at the Eglon cemetery on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Donald Matthews officiating.
Mr. Arnold was born in Oakland, Jan. 28, 1934, and was a son of the late Floyd T. Arnold and Mary (Cooper) Arnold. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth V. Arnold, in 1978.
He was a retired animal control officer for Garrett County, and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by three daughters, Sandra Harvey and Betty Liller, both of Oakland, and Robin Gattshall, Winchester, Va.; four brothers, Lorrie "Bob" Arnold, Philippi, W.Va., Raymond Arnold, Cumberland, Harold "Pete" Arnold, Cassidy, W.Va., and Floyd "Chuck" Arnold, Oakland; one sister, Anna Arnold, Baltimore; and six grandchildren.
The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society.

BETTY K. BEACHY
BALTIMORE - Betty Kathryn Beachy, 68, of 9127 Lamaze Road, Baltimore, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999, at Hospice of Baltimore at Gilchrist Center.
Born Aug. 25, 1931, in Grantsville, she was the daughter of Pearl (Bittinger) Brenneman, Salisbury, Pa., and the late Sherman Brenneman.
Mrs. Beachy was a self-employed genealogist and authored eight books on the subject. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, the National Genealogical Society, and the Garrett Co., Allegany Co., and Somerset Co., (Pa.) Historical Societies. She was also the valedictorian of the Salisbury-Elk Lick High School Class of 1949.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, William V. Beachy; two daughters, Terri Lynn Smith and husband, Phil, Hampstead; Dr. Natalie Anne Purvis and husband, Alan, Westminster; and two grandchildren, Ashley Anne Smith, and Clay Alan Purvis.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, P.A., Grantsville, on Saturday, Dec. 18, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Services will be conducted in the funeral home on Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Mark Crispell, officiating.
Interment will be in the Grantsville Cemetery.
RAY W. CALHOUN
OLDTOWN - Ray William Calhoun, 82, of Oldtown, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at the Lions Manor Nursing Home, Cumberland.
Born Aug. 19, 1916, in Blue Grass, Va., he was the son of the late Walter and Iva Anna Calhoun. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah C. Calhoun; and one brother, Dennis Calhoun.
Mr. Calhoun was retired from the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company after 33« years' service, and he was a member of Bethel Assembly of God Church.
Surviving are one son, David Brian Calhoun, Rockville; two daughters, Donna Rae LeWarne, Montpelier, Va., Susan Jeanette Beeseck and husband, Richard, Cumberland; one sister, Virginia Fitzgerald and husband, William, Sandston, Va.; one granddaughter, Scarlet Ann Holt and husband, Joseph, Richmond, Va.; and three great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Fred Parker officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
WARD W. ALBRIGHT
LAVALE - Ward W. Albright, 81, of Cash Valley Road, LaVale, died Monday, Dec. 6, 1999, in Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born on April 22, 1918, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late William F. and Pearl Florence (Chidester) Albright. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Winona Phillips, and a brother, Theodore Albright.
Mr. Albright was retired from the Celanese and was Methodist by faith.
Surviving are a sister, Lillie Fertig and husband, Wendell, of LaVale; two very caring and loving friends, Tom and Tina Taccino, of LaVale; three nephews; one step-niece; and his pet dog, Buffy.
Friends will be received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Hwy., LaVale, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home chapel on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Lee Brotemarkle, officiating.
Interment will follow in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the LaVale Rescue Squad, 977 National Hwy., LaVale, MD 21502.
Pallbearers will be Jim Scarlett, Randy House, Tom Taccino, Shawn Taccino, and Bob Scarlett.
