FREDERICK N. COWGILL SR.
CRESAPTOWN - Frederick Newton Cowgill Sr., 69, of 14224 Cunningham Drive, SW, Cresaptown, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Oct. 15, 1930, in Levels, W.Va., he was the son of the late Roy Elsie Slyvester Cowgill and the late Anna Virginia (Mayhew) Cowgill Jenkins. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Frances (Carroll) Cowgill on May 4, 1997; one brother, Roy Cowgill Jr.; and one sister, Dorothy Rhodes.
Mr. Cowgill was a retired brick layer for Local Union #6. He attended St. Ambrose Catholic Church. He was a member of VFW Henry Hart Post #1411 and the Cumberland Eagles #245. He was a veteran of the U.S.Army-Korean War.
Surviving are two sons, Thomas J. Cessna and wife Debra, Romney, W.Va., and Frederick N. Cowgill Jr. and wife Lana, Hagerstown; two daughters, Etta M. Jenkins, Cumberland, and Selena R. Rouch, Cumberland; six brothers, Edward Cowgill, Ridgeley, W.Va., Robert Cowgill, Cumberland, Larry Jenkins, Cumberland, Clifton Jenkins, Ridgeley, William Jenkins, Ridgeley, and Donald Jenkins, Cumberland; two sisters, Ann Kenney, Ridgeley, and Ramona Hedrick, Cumberland; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., on Tuesday at 9 a.m. with Father Milton A. Hipsley officiating.
Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Military honors will be accorded at graveside by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
Pallbearers will be Roger Cowgill, Dick Knipple, Tom Cessna Jr., Larry Jenkins Jr., Roy Rhodes and Charles Kenney.
LOUISE M. CERVI
MCHENRY - Louise Marie Cervi, 95, of 87 Wildwood Estates Drive, McHenry, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999, at her residence.
Born April 17, 1904, in Turin, Italy, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Anna Mautino. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Cervi, in 1988; and a grandson, Robert.
Mrs. Cervi was of the Catholic faith and was a member of the Irwin, Pa., Senior Citizens and the Italian Daughters of America in Hahntown, Pa.
She is survived by two sons, Eugene E. "Pete" Cervi and wife Carol, McHenry, and Robert F. Cervi and wife Sally, Irwin; three grandchildren, Gary Cervi, LeeAnn Diehl and husband Mark, and Eugene Cervi and wife Beth; and four great-grandchildren, Christopher Cervi, Corey and Chelsea Diehl, and Anthony Cervi.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., McHenry, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. with the Rev. David E. Fetter officiating.
Interment will be in the Union Cemetery, Irwin, on Wednesday at 11 a.m.

DONALD A. AMORUSO
CUMBERLAND - Donald Andrew Amoruso, 61, of Bel Air, Cumberland, went to be with the Lord, Friday, Dec. 10, 1999, at the Sacred Heart Hospital Hospice Unit.
Born Aug. 16, 1938, in Piedmont, W.Va., he was the son of the late Andrew Joseph and Patricia (McCormick) Amoruso. He also was preceded in death by his father-in-law, John T. Stakem Sr.; one brother-in-law, Gerald F. Stakem; and one sister-in-law, Colleen E. McGonegal.
Mr. Amoruso was a teacher for 37 years, having taught in Prince Georges County, Western Maryland College, Allegany High School from 1972 to 1984, and Allegany College from 1984 until he passed away. He was a member and Eucharistic Minister of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Cresaptown. He was a 1956 graduate of Valley High School, a 1960 graduate of Frostburg State Teachers College, where he received his Bachelor of Education, a 1965 graduate of the University of Tennessee, where he received his Masters of Mathematics degree, and he completed his Doctoral coursework at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He was a Little League Baseball and JCP Soccer coach for the Potomac Valley Athletic Association in Cresaptown. He was the soccer coach at Allegany High School from 1978 to 1984. He was a former wrestling coach at Allegany High School, an assistant Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop 9, Cresaptown, a Faculty Representative for the Allegany College Christian Fellowship, and he served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves. He was a member of the Queen City Running Club.
Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Mary Lou (Stakem) Amoruso; three sons, Anthony Joseph Amoruso and wife Liesl, Blacksburg, Va., Victor Paul Amoruso and wife Linda, Baltimore, and Mark Edward Amoruso and wife Shari, Cumberland; three grandchildren, Andrew, Erin and Hope; one sister, Patricia Ann Hayes and husband Edward, Las Vegas, Nev.; his mother-in-law, Mary (Winner) Stakem, Midland; three brothers-in-law, Eugene P. Stakem, New Carrollton, John T. Stakem Jr. and wife Sue, Frostburg, and Steele McGonegal, Hollywood, Md.; one sister-in-law, Teresa A. Stech and husband John, Hamilton, Va.; two aunts, Catherine Patton, Lonaconing, and Lucretia Amoruso, Piedmont, W.Va.; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and very close friends.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., Cresaptown, Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake service will be conducted at the funeral home Sunday at 9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ambrose Catholic Church Monday at 10 a.m. with Father Marvin Justi, O.F.M., Cap. as celebrant.
Interment will be in the St. Joseph's Cemetery, Midland.

ALEXANDER J. ANDERSON JR.
NATIONAL - Alexander J. "Huckle" Anderson Jr., 74, of National, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Nov. 16, 1924, in Lonaconing, he was the son of the late Alexander Anderson Sr. and Annie (Broadwater) Anderson.
Mr. Anderson was retired from Westvaco. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and a member of Alvin C. Neat VFW Post 5280, Lonaconing; Victory Post 155 American Legion, Westernport; and Georges Creek Valley Masonic Lodge 161, Lonaconing.
Surviving are his wife, Elaine (Leatherman) Anderson; two sons, Alex Thomas Anderson, at home, and John William Anderson and wife Theresa, National; two granddaughters, Shaharazad Nicole Anderson and Alexis Victoria Witt; and one sister, Geraldine Anderson, Detmold.
Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 W. Main St., Frostburg, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Alvin C. Neat Post 5280 will hold a memorial service at 3 p.m. Georges Creek Valley Masonic Lodge 161 will hold a memorial service at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Neva Leatherwood officiating.
Interment will be in the Laurel Hill Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be accorded by Westernport American Legion Victory Post 155.
LILLIAN K. ANDERSON
COCKEYSVILLE - Lillian K. Anderson, 91, of Cockeysville, formerly of Cumberland, died Sunday, March 14, 1999, at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center.
Born Oct. 28, 1907, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late William Albert and Hazel (Fier) Kaefer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas B. Anderson; three sisters, Anna B. Wagner, Dorothy Turano and Mildred Woods; one brother, Thomas Lowery; and one sister-in-law, Mary Jane Tyree.
Mrs. Anderson was a former employee of the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company, and retired from the Naval Air Station, Patuxent River, Md., in 1968. She was a former member of Kingsley United Methodist Church, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, the American Red Cross Volunteers, St. Mary's Extension Council Homemakers, and St. Columbia Chapter #92 Order of the Eastern Star.
Surviving are one sister, Ethel Bobo, Baltimore; two brothers, Charles Lowery and wife, Jeanne, Aberdeen, and Edward Lowery and wife, Doris, Arbutus; one sister-in-law, June Lowery, Cumberland; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial service will be conducted by the McKinley Chapter #12 Order of the Eastern Star on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Richard H. Jewell officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Cumberland.
PAUL R. BITTINGER JR.
CRESAPTOWN - Paul R. Bittinger Jr., 18, of Brant Road, Cresaptown, died at Sutton, W.Va., as the result of a car accident.
Born Nov. 25, 1980, he was the son of Rita 'Miss' (Mayhew) Bittinger and the late Paul R. Bittinger. He also was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Charlotte (Jones) Bittinger.
Mr. Bittinger was a 1998 graduate of Allegany High School, and a member of Bonnieview Apostolic Church, Keyser.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sisters, Tawanna Sue Bittinger, at home, and Jessica Dawn Bittinger, Cumberland; his paternal grandfather, Paul S. Bittinger, and maternal grandparents Ray and Gay (Paugh) Mayhew, all of Westernport; two nieces, Kayla Dawn Bittinger and Hayli Rae Griffith; numerous aunts and uncles; and girlfriend, Ruth Klinestiver, Milton, W.Va.
The family will receive friends and relatives at the Bonnieview Apostolic Church, Route 220 South, Keyser, W.Va., on Saturday, May 29, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral service will be conducted there on Sunday, May 30, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Daniel Garlitz and the Rev. James Williamson officiating.
Interment will be in the Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
