DONALD A. AMORUSO
CUMBERLAND - Donald Andrew Amoruso, 61, of Bel Air, Cumberland, went to be with the Lord, Friday, Dec. 10, 1999, at the Sacred Heart Hospital Hospice Unit.
Born Aug. 16, 1938, in Piedmont, W.Va., he was the son of the late Andrew Joseph and Patricia (McCormick) Amoruso. He also was preceded in death by his father-in-law, John T. Stakem Sr.; one brother-in-law, Gerald F. Stakem; and one sister-in-law, Colleen E. McGonegal.
Mr. Amoruso was a teacher for 37 years, having taught in Prince Georges County, Western Maryland College, and Allegany High School from 1972 to 1984, and Allegany College from 1984 until he passed away. He was a member and Eucharistic Minister of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Cresaptown. He was a 1956 graduate of Valley High School, a 1960 graduate of Frostburg State Teachers College, where he received his Bachelor of Education, a 1965 graduate of the University of Tennessee, where he received his Masters of Mathematics degree, and he completed his Doctoral coursework at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He was a Little League Baseball and JCP Soccer coach for the Potomac Valley Athletic Association in Cresaptown. He was the soccer coach at Allegany High School from 1978 to 1984. He was a former wrestling coach at Allegany High School, an assistant Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop 9, Cresaptown, a Faculty Representative for the Allegany College Christian Fellowship, and he served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves.
Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Mary Lou (Stakem) Amoruso; three sons, Anthony Joseph Amoruso and wife Liesl, Blacksburg, Va., Victor Paul Amoruso and wife Linda, Baltimore, and Mark Edward Amoruso and wife Shari, Cumberland; three grandchildren, Andrew, Erin and Hope; one sister, Patricia Ann Hayes and husband Edward, Las Vegas, Nev.; his mother-in-law, Mary (Winner) Stakem, Midland; three brothers-in-law, Eugene P. Stakem, New Carrollton, John T. Stakem Jr. and wife Sue, Frostburg, and Steele McGonegal, Hollywood, Md.; one sister-in-law, Teresa A. Stech and husband John, Hamilton, Va.; two aunts, Catherine Patton, Lonaconing, and Lucretia Amoruso, Piedmont, W.Va.; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and very close friends.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., Cresaptown, Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake service will be conducted at the funeral home Sunday at 9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ambrose Catholic Church Monday at 10 a.m. with Father Marvin Justi, O.F.M., Cap. as celebrant.
Interment will be in the St. Joseph's Cemetery, Midland.

LAWRENCE J. BEITZEL
GRANTSVILLE - Lawrence J. Beitzel, 85, of 12730 Bittinger Road, Grantsville, died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, at Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Born Sept. 12, 1913, in Bittinger, he was a son of the late Daniel and Anna (Schrock) Beitzel. He also was preceded in death by six brothers, Roy, Raymond, Elmer, Gorman, Alvin and Leo; and a sister, Nona.
A co-founder of Beitzel Corp., he retired as a welder at the age of 72 years, He was a member of Cherry Glade Mennonite Church. Mr. Beitzel was baptized on Aug. 26, 1928, at Maple Glen Mennonite Church by C.W. Bender. An avid golfer, he continually challenged his grandsons.
Lawrence had the ability to forgive and offered an unconditional love to everyone. He had a strong, unwavering faith in God.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Thelma H. (Yoder) Beitzel, whom he married
on Dec. 13, 1935; two sons, Olen Beitzel and Denver Beitzel, both of Accident; two daughters, Anna Maust, Accident, and Delores Stephens, Grantsville; two brothers, Freeman Beitzel, Grantsville, and Wilbur Beitzel, Springs, Pa.; a sister, Fannie Peachy, Irwin, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., Grantsville, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Cherry Glade Mennonite Church on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Oren Bender and the Rev. Mayard Beitzel officiating.
Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services.
Interment will be in the Cherry Glade Cemetery.
Pallbearers, all grandsons, will be Garland Maust, Gary Beitzel, Larry Maust, Terry Beitzel, Jimmy Stephens and Randy Maust.
Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the Cherry Glade Church Building Fund.
AGNES ANNA BARBE
CUMBERLAND - Agnes Anna Barbe, 84, of 148 N. Mechanic St., Cumberland, died Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999, at her home.
Born Jan. 21, 1915, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Dominic Ambrose Martin and the late Emma Matilda (Helmstetter) Martin.
Mrs. Barbe worked at the Celanese Fibers Corporation for 15 years. She was a 1933 graduate of the Ursuline Academy. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and St. Patrick's Sodality.
Surviving are three sons, Delton John Barbe and wife, Gladys, Cumberland, Bernard James Barbe and companion, Dorothy Y. Twigg, Cumberland, and Philip S. Barbe and wife, Hazel, South Hampton, N.J; a brother, Sylvester Martin and wife, Bonnie, Ridgeley, W.Va.; a sister, Clara Elizabeth "Marty"Moore and husband, Tom, LaVale; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Saturday at 9 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Thomas R. Bevan as celebrant.
Interment will be in SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Carroll Wilt, Robert Aldridge, Joseph McGann, Raymond Gephart, Samuel Martin, Robert Madden, Philip S. Barbe Jr., and Danny Moore.
A Wake Service will be held on Friday at 8 p.m. with Deacon Frank Werner.
ELSIE M. BISHOP-ALLEGER
CUMBERLAND - Elsie M. Bishop-Alleger, 78, of Elkton, formerly of Cumberland, died Wednesday, June 30, 1999, at Union Hospital, Elkton.
Born Feb. 23, 1921, in Darlington, she was a daughter of the late William Crouse and Dosha (Cardell) Crouse. She also was preceded in death by her first husband, Lynn Bishop.
She was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church in Elkton.
Surviving are her second husband of four years, John F. Alleger Sr.; one son, Ernest Lee Bishop and wife Kay, Wiley Ford, W.Va.; three brothers, Arthur Crouse, Orange City, Fla., Melvin Crouse, Darlington, and Herbert Crouse, Joppa; three sisters, Opal Shumate, Elkton, Grace Rosenberger, Forrest Hill, and Blanche Martin, New Freedom, Pa.; and two grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, PA, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Bill Wilkerson officiating.
Interment will be in the Mount Tabor Cemetery.
HOBERT F. BENNETT
MOUNT SAVAGE - Hobert Franklin Bennett, 79, of 14004 Mount Savage Road, N.W., died Monday, July 26, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born March 9, 1920, in Mount Savage, he was the son of the late Frank P. and Dora E. (Orndorff) Bennett. He also was preceded in death by three sisters, Wilda Petenbrink, Mabel Russell and Amy Richardson.
Mr. Bennett was retired from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources' vehicle maintenance department at Green Ridge State Forest. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was a member of the Mount Savage United Methodist Church, Farrady Post No. 24 American Legion, Haystack Mountain Sportsman's Club, Disabled American Veterans, AARP, and was a lifetime member of Mount Savage VFW Post No. 6025.
Surviving are his wife, Ethel Viola (Witt) Bennett, Frostburg; a brother, Harold Bennett, Cresaptown; four nieces, Debbie Rizer, Stephens City, Va., Helen Pfeiffer, Cumberland, Nancy Deihl, Cresaptown, Ellen Richardson, Baltimore; and three nephews, James Sweene, Omaha, Neb., Robert Bennett, Rawlings, and John Bennett, Frostburg.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Richard C. Broome Jr. officiating.
Interment will be in the Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale. Military honors will be accorded at graveside by combined Military Honor Guards from the Farrady Post No. 24 and VFW Post No. 6025.

FLOYD C. CROUCH, SR.
SUNRISE, Fla. - Floyd C. Crouch, Sr., 90, of Sunrise, formerly of Cumberland, died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, in Florida.
Born Sept. 26, 1909, in Gastonia, N.C., he was the son of the late Marvin Crouch and Julia (Whisenant) Crouch. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Edna M. (Taylor) Crouch.
Mr. Crouch was a retired owner of Crouch International Chemical Co. in Miami, Fla.
Surviving are a son, Floyd C. Crouch, Jr., and wife, Kim, Glen Burnie; three daughters, Annetta Barnhill and husband, William, Brownsburg, IN, Julia Hartley and husband, Joe, Cumberland, Martha Hiland and husband, Ronald, Lebannon, IN; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Doug Seaman, officiating.
Interment will be in Glendale Cemetery-Flintstone.
