RUTH BITTINGER
GRANTSVILLE - Ruth Bittinger, 85, of 789 Maple Grove Road, Grantsville, went to be with the Lord Thursday, Aug. 5, 1999, at Meyersdale (Pa.) Medical Center.
Born July 20, 1914, in Swanton, she was the daughter of the late James and Nancy (Burkholder) Bittinger and was the widow of Russell S. Bittinger, who died Nov. 29, 1990. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Gloria McKenzie.
Mrs. Bittinger was a homemaker and a member of Jennings Church of God.
She is survived by two sons, Willard and David Bittinger, both of Grantsville; three daughters, Dorothy Hare, Salisbury, Pa.; Doris Engle, Meyersdale; Arlene Friend, Swallow Falls; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, P.A., Grantsville, on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Jennings Church of God with Rev. George Plants officiating. Interment will be at Grantsville Cemetery.
Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to Jennings Church of God.
PHOEBE E. BARNARD
SWANTON - Phoebe Eleanor Barnard, 95, of Swanton, died Tuesday, March 16, 1999, at the Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home, Oakland.
Born July 18, 1903, in Mount Zion, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Lizzie (Herman) Tichinel. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Barnard; two sons, Walter and Paul Barnard; and one daughter, Leona Castle.
Surviving are one son, William O. Barnard, Avon, Fla.; one daughter, Shirley Pearce, Westernport; two brothers, James Tichinel and Martin Tichinel, Swanton; 15 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.
The body is at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, Kitzmiller, where friends will be received on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Donald Nelson officiating.
Interment will be in the Turner Cemetery, Walnut Bottom.
MARY M. BLACK
CUMBERLAND - Mary Margaret Black, 81, of Baltimore Avenue, passed over to the Lord on Jan. 4, 1999, at the Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 26, 1917, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late George Washington Smith and Rose Catherine (Kirby) Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Elon Chauncey Black, in 1989; a daughter, Rosalind Elon Black, in 1992; and two brothers, Robert William Smith and George Washington Smith Jr..
Mrs. Black is survived by a son, Carl C. Black and wife, Theresa, Cumberland; two daughters, K. Darlene Park and husband, William, Frostburg, and Inez Kathy Black, Union City, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Etta Smith, Cumberland, and Jennie Smith, League City, Texas; four grandchildren, Carla K. Black, Cumberland, William R. Park Jr., Burtonsville, Natalie Wartzack, and Carl Wartzack and wife, Melanie, Silver Spring; and two great-grandchildren, Thomas and Noah Wartzack.
Mrs. Black was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening and reading mysteries, as well as a member of the Cumberland Eagles Club.
At Mrs. Black's request, her body was cremated and there will be no public viewing.
A public memorial service will be conducted on Friday, Jan. 8, 1999, at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 125 Fayette St., at 1 p.m. with Father Vance Pastorius officiating.
ROBERT F. CROWE, SR.
MT. SAVAGE - Robert F. "Fay" Crowe, Sr., 84, of Mt. Savage, died Monday, Dec. 13, 1999, at Frostburg Village Nursing Home.
Born on Oct. 13, 1915, in Mt. Savage, he was the son of the late Charles and Clara (Sweene) Crowe. He was also preceded in death by one son, Gerald David Crowe; three sisters, Mary Etta Valentine, Lillian Snyder, Olivine King; and one brother, Edward Crowe.
Mr. Crowe was employed by the Celanese Corp. and retired from The Hiser Supply Co. He was a member of Mt. Savage United Methodist Church. He was a World War II Marine Veteran, having served in the South Pacific.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy V. (Aldridge) Crowe; one son, Robert F. Crowe, Jr., and wife, Linda, Solvang, Calif.; three grandsons, Gregory Crowe and wife, Ginny, Roderic Crowe and Damon Crowe; two great-grandchildren, Spencer and Carolyn Crowe; one brother, Wilbur Crowe and wife, Myra, Keyser, W.Va.; one sister, Vivian Snyder, Mt. Savage; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 W. Main Street, Frostburg, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Richard Broome, Jr., officiating.
Interment will be in Mt. Savage Methodist Cemetery.
Graveside military rites will be accorded by Mt. Savage V.F.W. Old Rail Post 6025 and American Legion Farrady Post 24.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the Mt. Savage United Methodist Church.
BEULAH B. BROADWATER
HUBER HEIGHTS, Ohio - Beulah B. Broadwater, 87, of Huber Heights, formerly of Potomac Park, passed away Monday, Sept. 6, 1999, at Grandview Hospital.
Ms. Broadwater was a member of Potomac Park United Methodist Church in Potomac Park.
Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Sue Feight, Huber Heights, Roger and Kathy Feight, Winchester, Va.; sister, Freda Thomas, Fla.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Memorial service will conducted at Potomac Park Methodist Church Monday at1 p.m. with the Pastor James McMahan officiating.
Interment will be private on Monday at the Grantsville Cemetery, Grantsville. Arrangements are being made by Marker and Heller Funeral Home, 5844 Old Troy Pike, Huber Heights.

MILLICENT BRODE
VINELAND, N.J. - Millicent (Callin) Brode, 92, of Vineland, formerly of Frostburg, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, at her home in Vineland where she had resided since 1951. She also was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Theodore Brode, in July 1977.
Mrs. Brode attended schools in Frostburg. She was a homemaker and loved cooking and baking for her family and friends.
Surviving are five sons, Richard Brode, Beaumont, Texas, Glenn Brode, Suisun, Calif., Larry Brode, Millville, N.J., Roger Brode, El Dorado Springs, Mo., and Jerry Brode, Vineland; three daughters, Helen Jane Michaels, Melbourne, Fla., Norma Jean Brode, Vineland, and Barbara Ann Hobbs, Bridgeton, N.J.; 17 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; and one sister, June Lorentz, Norma, N.J.
Friends were received at the Pancoast Funeral Home, Vineland.
Graveside services will be conducted at the Brode Cemetery, Frostburg, on Monday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. J. Richard Greene officiating.

JEAN A. BARNES
"Rest In The Lord And Wait Patiently On Him"

June 11, 1914 was "A Time to be Born" when Jean A. Barnes was born in Cumberland, Maryland to George and Elmira "Ella" Ashby. Jean matriculated through Carver High School. She lived at 414 Pine Avenue in Cumberland.
Her "Time to Love" came on March 2, 1939 when she married
Robert W. Barnes of Baltimore, Maryland. To this marriage two children were born, Vallery Beckward, who preceded her in death, and Wilma Washington of East Point, Georgia.
A "Time to Serve" began at an early age when she became a member of the McKendree United Methodist Church and served as a choir member. She also volunteered her service for many church related functions. She was faithful to her family, civic and religious duties and performed them well. Her Christian character was reflected in her quiet, perceptive and matchless style. She loved her Lord.
A "Time to Die" came on June 13, 1999. She quietly answered her Master's call.
Jean is survived by her husband, Robert W. Barnes, formerly of Cumberland, Maryland; daughter, Wilma Barnes Washington, East Point, Georgia; sister, Mary Daugherty, Temple Hills, Maryland; brother, James Ashby, Cumberland, Maryland; sisters-in law, June Ahsby and Betty Ashby, both of Cumberland; grandchildren, Wendelyn, Timothy and Arthur Washington, all of Atlanta, Georgia, Kolette Daniels and William Beckward III, of the Washington, D.C., area; great-grandchildren, Joseph and James Daniels and Nicole, Jaya and Alexis Washington; and numerous other family and friends.
