VON WALLACE CLUTTER
ACCIDENT - Von Wallace Clutter, 88, of 419 S. Main St., Accident, died Thursday, April 1, 1999, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born May 1, 1910, in Time, Pa., he was the son of the late Harry and Dora (Clutter) Clutter. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and Terra Alta Masonic Lodge and was a retired gas well driller with H.M.H. Corporation.
Survivors include his wife, Carrie S. (Phillips) Clutter; three sons, Tom Clutter, Terra Alta, W.Va., Bob Clutter and wife, Virginia, McHenry, Bill Clutter, Morgantown, W.Va.; a daughter, Carol Schaible and husband, Todd, Springfield, Mo.; three sisters, Ferne McKissick, Claysville, Pa., Iva Mankey, Washington, Pa., Ines Minton, Waynesburg, Pa.; seven grandchildren, David and Cathy Clutter, both of Terra Alta, Lisa Butler, Accident, Michele Sowers, Hollidaysburg, Pa., Lee and Eric Clutter, both of Morgantown, and Trent Schaible, Denver, Colo.; and five great-grandchildren, Derek, Brent and Betheny Butler, all of Accident, Ryan and Skylar Freeman, both of Terra Alta.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., McHenry, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Accident, Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Roland E. Nairn III officiating.
Interment will be in Garrett County Memorial Gardens.
Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the Northern Garrett County Rescue Squad.
DOROTHY E. BUSCH
CUMBERLAND - Dorothy Evelyn Busch, 75, of Cumberland, died Wednesday, May 5, 1999, at her home.
Born July 4, 1923, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Charles Andrew Shipe and the late Ada (Gormer) Shipe. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lee C. Busch; three brothers, James Shipe, Richard Shipe and Charles Shipe; and a sister, Martha Shook.
Mrs. Busch was retired from Eylers Wall Paper Store.
Surviving are her daughter, Virginia L. Hudson and husband, Harold, Cumberland; a son, Edward A. Busch and wife, Delores, Waco, Texas; four sisters, Margaret Hevener, Cumberland, Ruth Ruby, Cumberland, Mary Hunter, Cumberland, Virginia Honeycutt, Carlisle, Pa., and Frances Yefko, Adelphi; five grandchildren, Richard Hudson, Cumberland, Jon Hudson, Athens, Tenn., Christopher Hudson, Cumberland, Robert Busch, Baytown, Texas, and Keri Booth, Denton, Texas; and three great-grandchildren, Ryanne Hudson, Allyssa Hudson, and Brianna Booth.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., with the Rev. Milton Hipsley officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
WAYNE W. CUTTER SR.
SWANTON - Wayne William Cutter Sr., 61, of 18868 Maryland Highway, Swanton, died Feb. 7, 1999, at home.
Born in Lord, Md., on Nov. 22, 1937, he was a son of Beulah (Bittinger) Cutter and Leslie Cutter, Klondike.
Mr. Cutter was retired from Westvaco with 35 years' service. He was a member of Moose Lodge #662, Keyser, Black Hawk Tribe #131, Westernport, and Midland Sportsmen Club, Midland.
Surviving besides his parents are his loving wife, Sandra 'Sandy' (Bridges) Cutter; and their four children, Kelly Lattimer and husband, Chris, Parkersburg, W.Va., Wayne Cutter Jr. and wife, Davina, Fountain Head, W.Va., Scott Cutter, Bloomington, and Misty Cutter, at home. Also surviving are two brothers, Leslie Cutter Jr. and wife, Lois, National, and Robert Cutter and wife, Deborah, Midlothian; two sisters, Laurna Dawson and husband, Lester, Vale Summit, and Audrey Bell and husband, Glenn, Lonaconing; three grandchildren, Christopher Lattimer, Taylor Cutter and Thane Cutter.
Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing, on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. George Harpold officiating.
Interment will follow at Frostburg Memorial Park, Frostburg.
Pallbearers will be Robert Cutter, Benjamin Cutter, Rodney Bell, Steve Cutter, Jeff Cutter and Wayne Cutter Jr.
HILDA J. BURT
LONACONING - Hilda J. Burt, a retired C&P; telephone operator, died Monday at Egle Nursing Home in Lonaconing following a lengthy illness.
A daughter of the late Hugh and Agnes Stafford, the lifelong Lonaconing resident was 91.
Mrs. Burt graduated from Central High School in 1926. She was married
to Andrew C. Burt Jr., who preceded her in death on Feb. 10, 1952. She worked as a telephone operator for the C&P; Telephone Company in Cumberland, retiring in September 1972 after 32 years of faithful service. She was a life member of Telephone Pioneers of America, and a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lonaconing.
Mrs. Burt is survived by one sister, Margaret Kroh, Westminster; one brother, Harry Stafford, Lonaconing; one daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Raymond Clark, Myersville; one granddaughter, Karen Clark, Baltimore; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., in Lonaconing on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Lonaconing.
Interment will be private.
MILTON R. COCHRAN
CUMBERLAND - Milton R. Cochran, 76, of Cumberland, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 2, 1922, in Corriganville, he was the son of the late Richard and Lila (Fleegle) Cochran.
Mr. Cochran was retired from the Kelly-Springfield Tire Co. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the BPO Elks, Cumberland Lodge 63; VFW Henry Hart Post 1411; and American Legion Fort Cumberland Post 13.
Surviving are his wife, Mary M. Cochran; two daughters, Karen Mellott, Cash Valley Road, and Lynda S. Cochran, Alexandria, Va.; one granddaughter, Lesley Aldridge, Mount Savage Road; one grandson, Gary Mellott II, Cumberland; one great-grandson, Ryan Aldridge, Mount Savage Road; one brother, James D. Cochran, Cumberland; one stepdaughter, Linda Grubb and husband John Grubb and daughter, Baltimore; one stepson, Thomas Aman and wife Cecilia and his two daughters, Cumberland; one niece, Brenda Riley and husband Matt and their three daughters, Cumberland; and three nephews, Charles D. Miller, Dennis Miller and David Miller.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Committal services will be conducted at the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap, Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Wayne R. Turner officiating.
Graveside military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
WILFRED D. CROWE
FROSTBURG - Wilfred D. Crowe, 77, of 71 Montgomery Lane, Finzel, Frostburg, Md., passed away Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Dec. 19, 1921, in Barberton, Ohio, he was the son of the late Orvel and Leota (Pope) Crowe. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth O. Crowe; a sister, Leatta E. McKenzie; and a grandson, Chad M. Malone.
Wilfred served in the Merchant Marines on Victory and Liberty ships during World War II for three years. Upon returning to the Frostburg area, he was employed by the refractories industry for 39 years, when he retired from the Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corp. While employed there, he served as secretary of the Local Union 14424 of District 50 UMWA. He became the first president of the credit union established there. Also, at that time, he operated a beef cattle farm near Pocahontas, Pa., for 36 years. He was president of the PTA at Route 40 Elementary School when his daughters were enrolled there. An active member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church for many years, he served as Administrative Council President, chairperson of the Building Committee when the new sanctuary was built, and various other offices. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and farming. Currently, he belonged to the American Legion and AARP.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Corlista Murphy Crowe; two daughters, Beverly Malone and husband Gerald, and Bonnie Langan and husband James, all of Finzel; three grandsons, Jason Malone, Clint Malone and Ted Langan; and two granddaughters, Cora Langan and Allison Malone.
The family will receive friends at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 W. Main St., Frostburg, on Monday and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church on National Pike four miles west of Frostburg, Wednesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Steven Lightner officiating.
Memorials may be directed to the Emmanuel United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, c/o Delford Crowe, 351 Shade Hollow Road, Grantsville, MD 21536.

FROSTBURG - Funeral services for Wilfred D. Crowe will be conducted at Emmanuel United Methodist Church on National Pike west of Frostburg.
Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the service.
The American Legion will conduct military rites following the funeral.
Interment will follow the service in the Emmanuel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Serving as Pall Bearers will be Gerald Malone, James Langan, Jason Malone, Clint Malone, Ted Langan, Carl Crowe, Paul Crowe and Conrad DeHaven.
