JAMES J. BURNS
CUMBERLAND - James Joseph Burns, 73, of Cumberland, died Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999, at the Cumberland Nursing Center.
Born Nov. 15, 1925, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late James J. and Nina (Eichorn) Burns. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Edith M. Wolfington, Marguerite MacMillan, Virginia J. Burns; and one nephew, William P. Wolfington Jr.
Mr. Burns was a certified public accountant. He retired in 1990 as the Internal Auditor from First Federal Savings Bank. He had been employed by John Rollins, C.P.A., and the Celanese. He was a 1943 graduate of LaSalle High School. Mr. Burns was an avid tennis player and a member of several local tennis leagues. He was a U.S. Army veteran, a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church, and a member of Knights of Columbus #586.
Surviving are three nieces, Eleanor M. Watkins and husband, Robert, Nina M. Maphis, Carolyn J. Wolfington; and one nephew, James M. Wolfington, all of Cumberland; and several great-nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Tuesday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake will be conducted on Tuesday at 8 p.m. with members of the Knights of Columbus participating.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Wednesday at 9 a.m. with the Rev. Thomas R. Bevan as celebrant.
Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery.
CARL C. "BUCK" COFFMAN JR.
CUMBERLAND - Carl C. "Buck"Coffman Jr., 75, of 410 Wempe Drive, Cumberland, died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.
Born June 30, 1923, in Columbus, Ohio, he was the son of the late Carl C. Coffman Sr. and the late Floya (House) Coffman. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Virginia C. Bohrer.
Mr. Coffman was retired from the Operating Engineers Local #37. He was a member of Melvin United Methodist Church, Post #155 American Legion, Artemas, Pa., and Lafayette Lodge #652 F. & A.M. at Carnegie, Pa. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army in World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Lou (Loy) Coffman, Cumberland; three nieces; and two nephews.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., with the Rev. Daniel Taylor officiating.
Interment will be in Fairview Christian Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Charles McDonald, John Smith, Charles House, Eldon House, Larry Snyder and Charles Weaver.
PATRICIA A. BURKHOLDER
BERRYVILLE, Va. - Patricia A. (McGann) Burkholder, 54, of Berryville, formerly of Oakland, Md., and Cumberland, Md., died Monday, March 8, 1999, at her home.
Born April 26, 1944, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Bernard Francis McGann and Loretta M. (Beckman) Deter.
Mrs. Burkholder was a certified nurse's assistant for Blue Ridge Hospice, Winchester. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Berryville, the church choir, and the Cancer Support Group of Garrett County, Md.
Surviving are her husband, Jim G. Burkholder; four daughters, Laura Harrison Livingston and husband, Michael, Cumberland, Mary Harrison Mellott, Oakland, LaDeana Burkholder Anderson and husband, Michael, Fredericksburg, Va., and DeeAnna L. Burkholder, Berlin, Pa.; one sister, Cathy Pannone and husband, Mike, Cumberland; one brother, Michael McGann and wife, Beverly, Mount Savage, Md.; three grandchildren, Emily and Cole Livingston, and Nicole Anderson.
Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Dwight Brown officiating.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Cumberland.
A memorial service will be conducted on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, Berryville.

BARBARA E. BURKE
CUMBERLAND - Barbara Elizabeth Burke, 61, of Fayette St., Cumberland, died Tuesday, Dec. 20, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 2, 1938, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Eleanor (Wilmont) Smith. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Jane Griese.
Mrs. Burke was retired from the Allegany County Board of Education, where she was responsible for the G.E.D. program and the Teen Parenting program. She also was a jewelry sales associate for Finley Jewelry Sales. She was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church. She was a 1956 graduate of Fort Hill High School, where she was a majorette and the May Queen.
Surviving are her husband, Raymond Glen Burke; one daughter, Sheila Cecil and husband, Martin, Points, W.Va.; two sons, Bruce Metz and wife, Lauren, Fort Ashby, W.Va., Robert Metz and wife, Sheila, Cumberland; two stepsons, Kevin Burke, Rockville, Michael Burke, Cumberland; one brother, Herbert G. Smith and wife, LaDonna, Frostburg; seven grandchildren, Morgan, Nathan, and Brittany Metz, Kole, Kain, and Chelsea Metz, and Kiersten Dillon; and several nieces and nephews.

STANLEY C. BUNNELL
CUMBERLAND - Stanley C. Bunnell, 80, of the Cumberland Nursing Home, formerly of North Lee Street, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, at the nursing home.
Born April 17, 1918, in New Haven, Conn., he was the son of the late Charles and Mary Anna (Valionis) Bunnell. He also was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Have Bunnell; one son, Kenneth C. Bunnell; and one daughter, Noreen Bunnell.
Mr. Bunnell was a retired quality control engineer at Allegany Ballistics Laboratory Corp. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Cumberland. He was president of the Holy Name Society from 1952 to 1956 at Saint Mary's Catholic Church, Hagerstown. He was a graduate of Hill House High School, New Haven.
Surviving are his second wife, Nellie Louise (Griffith) Bunnell; and two grandsons, Warren C. Bunnell, College Park, Pa., and Brian Bunnell, Collegeville, Pa.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake will be conducted Friday at 8:45 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Saturday at 10 a.m. with Father Vance Pastorius, OFM, Cap., as celebrant.
Interment will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
ADDISON G. COMBS
CUMBERLAND - Addison Gillmore Combs, 75, of 614 Shriver Ave., Cumberland, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1999, at his home.
Born Feb. 15, 1924, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Elza Combs and the late Gladys (King) Combs. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Michael David, and Stephen A. Combs; one brother, Harris Jefferson Combs, Sr.; two sisters, Joan Ann Whetzel, and Helen Beal.
A retired U.S. Navy Veteran and also retired from Kelly Springfield Tire Co., member of Fulton Myers Post 153, American Legion.
He is survived his wife, Evelyn (Howard) Combs; a very special special friend, Janice Page, Cumberland; two sons, Gregory D. Combs and wife Ann, LaVale; Douglas B. Combs, Cumberland; two sisters, Charlotte Maxine Sullivan, Pa., and June Ann Houseworth, Cumberland; three brothers, Chester Combs, S.C., Vincent W. Combs, Orlando, Fla., and Tex Carroll Angus Combs, Cleveland, Ohio; and four grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. only.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ken L. Korns.
Burial will be in the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap. Military honors will be accorded at graveside by the combined veterans honor guard.
