RUTH E. BULGER
CUMBERLAND - Ruth Elizabeth Bulger, 81, of Cumberland, formerly of Summit Drive, Calcutta, Ohio, died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, at her home.
Born July 11, 1917, in Beaver Falls, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Martha (Brinkerhoff) Kelley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Norman M. Bulger, on Dec. 12, 1977.
Mrs. Bulger was a homemaker and foster child care provider. She was a graduate of Beaver Falls High School and a member of St. Aloysius Community Parish.
Surviving are one son, Donald N. Bulger, Cumberland; one daughter, Martha Duck, East Liverpool, Ohio; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Martin-Altmeyer Funeral Home, East Liverpool, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Aloysius Community Parish, East Liverpool, on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. John MulQueen as celebrant.
Interment will be in Columbiana County Memorial Park, East Liverpool.
JULIA F. BUDRIES
CUMBERLAND - Julia F. Budries, of 941 Bishop Walsh Road, Cumberland, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born in Pekin, she was the daughter of the late Julius and Frances (Rushaldie) Budries. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Anthony, Julius, and George Budries; and one sister, Elizabeth Ross.
Miss. Budries was a graduate of Central High School, Lonaconing, and Baltimore City Hospital School of Nursing. She formerly attended St. Gabriels Catholic Church, Barton. She was a retired L.P.N., having worked at the Geriantology Research Center of the Frances Scott Key Medical Center, Baltimore. Julia loved the opera and was devoted to all her nieces and nephews.
Surviving are a sister, Helen Calemine, of Frostburg; two nieces, Carole High, Patricia Thrasher; two nephews, Jim High and wife, Sheryl, Mike Ross and wife, Carrie; great nieces, Jennifer McMahon, Heather Thrasher, Janell High, Elizabeth, Natalie, and Courtney Ross; great nephews, Jim and Justin High, Jeremy Barger, Chris Fotos; great-great-nieces, Mariah Blowe, Abby and Olivia McMahon, great-great-nephew, RaShawn (Hansie) Blowe; and special pets, Birdie and Minnie.
The family will receive friends at the Boal Funeral Home, Lonaconing, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mass of a Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Gabriels Catholic Church, Barton, on Tuesday at 10 a.m. with the Father James Hannon as celebrant.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland.
JOHN C. BUCKLEW
FROSTBURG - John Calvin Bucklew, 80, of 4 Standish St., Frostburg, died Monday, April 12, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born July 10, 1918, in Barton, he was the son of the late Sheridan and Clara (Dye) Bucklew.
Mr. Bucklew was employed at Celanese Corporation and Frostburg State University. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific.
He was a member of Frostburg United Methodist Church, American Legion Farrady Post #24, and the U.S.S. New Mexico Association.
Surviving are his wife, Viola "Toddy" (Miller) Bucklew; one son, John C. Bucklew Jr. and wife, Trena, Ephrata, Pa.; two granddaughters, Shannon Stauffer and husband, Tom, Elizabethtown, Pa., and Erica Bucklew, Jefferson, Pa.; one brother, George Wilbur Bucklew and wife, Alice, LaVale; and one sister, Alice Barnard, Barton.
Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 W. Main St., Frostburg, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. George M. Harpold officiating.
Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park. Graveside military rites will be accorded by American Legion Farrady Post #24.
Pallbearers will be George Bucklew Jr., Edward Whitaker, Bill Barnard, Tom Stauffer, John Dinning and Dan Stauffer.
ROSINA M. BUCKEL
BITTINGER - Rosina "Rose" Millington Buckel, 78, of 11375 Bittinger Road, Bittinger, died Sunday, April 4, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born March 6, 1921, in London, England, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Elizabeth Millington. She also was preceded in death on Jan. 12, 1983 by her husband, Joseph R. Buckel, an American GI, whom she met when he was stationed in England during World War II. She came to America in March 1946.
Mrs. Buckel was an active, longtime member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Bittinger, and served as a member of the LCW. For many years, she was active with the Bittinger Fire Department Auxiliary. For everyone who knew her, she was deeply loved, admired and respected.
Surviving are three sons, David Buckel, Lexington, Ky., Gary and Philip Buckel, both of Bittinger; four grandchildren, Randy, Jerod, Kandice and Leslie; and two great-grandsons, Neil and Nicholas.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., Grantsville, Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Wednesday, April 7, 1999, at 3 p.m. with Vicar Doug Knupp officiating.
The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in the Bittinger Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Randy Buckel, Leslie Buckel, Kandi Buckel, Joseph W. Buckel, Robert Smith and William D. Buckel.
Contributions may be directed to the Emmanuel Lutheran Church Building Fund or the Kidney Foundation.
HAROLD F. CRABTREE
LAVALE - Harold Floyd Crabtree, 77, of 10025 Shortest Day Road, LaVale, died Saturday, April 24, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Sept. 8, 1921, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Charles F. Crabtree and the late Mary Edith (Hartman) Crabtree. He also was preceded in death by brothers, Donald 'Hoppy' Crabtree Sr. and Charles M. Crabtree; a sister, Betty Cowden; and a daughter, Paulette May Crabtree.
Mr. Crabtree was a retired truck driver for Maryland Motors; a member of Teamsters Local 453 and Teamsters Retiree Chapter; and a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Goldie (Crider) Stevey Crabtree; one daughter, Claudette Ammons and husband Charles, Richmond, Va.; two stepsons, Larry Stevey and wife Sharon, Ridgeley, W.Va., and David Stevey and wife Molly, Ridgeley; two stepdaughters, Gail Carman and husband Randy, Arlington, Wash., and Linda Mihailovich and husband Robert, Garland, Texas; five grandchildren; 15 step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 18 step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Jones and husband Charles, Bowling Green, Cumberland; and one brother, George 'Eddie' Crabtree, Ridgeley.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1 p.m. by the Rev. Daren L. Ritchey.
Burial will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.
Contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart Home Hospice Unit.
JAMES E. CASEY
KENSINGTON - James E. Casey, 88, a retired Catholic priest and National Security Agency personnel officer who had lived in the Washington area since the 1940s, died of congestive heart failure Jan. 18, 1999, at Holy Cross Hospital. He lived in Kensington.
He was pastor of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Baden from 1979 to 1989. Although in retirement since then, he had assisted at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Silver Spring and St. Jude's Catholic Church in Rockville.
Casey, who was born in Keyser, W.Va., was a graduate of the University of Baltimore and its law school. He worked for the NSA from the 1950s to 1966, when he entered the Pope John XXIII Seminary in Massachusetts.
After being ordained in Washington in 1969, he spent the next decade as an assistant pastor at several area churches: St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Capitol Hill, St. Joseph's in Lanham, and St. Catherine Laboure in Wheaton.
Survivors include a sister, Mary Staggers, Keyser.
B. MOSELLA BUCKEL
LAVALE - B. Mosella Buckel, 86, of 501 B St., LaVale, our loving mother, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 17, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.
Born March 28, 1912, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late George Henry Brockey and the late Mary Missouri (Humbertson) Brockey. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Blake Buckel, on Aug. 17, 1994; a daughter, Roma J. Paugh; and a grandson, Thomas E. Carr.
Mrs. Buckel was a member of Central United Methodist Church. Her talents as a homemaker were exceeded by her ability to be the best-of-the-best pie makers.
Surviving are two daughters, Jacqueline I. Harvey and husband Joseph, Cresaptown, and Barbara Bridges and husband Walter, LaVale; a sister, Georgianna Lancaster, LaVale; four grandchildren, Randy Paugh, Middletown, Kevin Paugh, Philadelphia, Troy Carr, LaVale, and Brandy Carr, Hagerstown; and six great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Friday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church with the Rev. Cynthia Frey officiating. Mrs. Buckel will be taken to the church at noon.
