LOUIS W. CALDWELL
CRESAPTOWN - Louis Wilson Caldwell, 68, of 14804 Lone Oak Road, Cresaptown, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Nov. 22, 1930, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Edgar Caldwell and the late Nina (McCleary) Caldwell. He also was preceded by his first wife, Annabelle (Diehl) Caldwell in 1978; and his brother, Charles E. Caldwell in 1972. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
A loving husband, father and grandfather, Mr. Caldwell was a retired employee of the Potomac Edison Co. with 41 1/2 years of service. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, the Ali Ghan Shrine Drum and Bugle Corps, Potomac Lodge 100 AF & AM, Cumberland Moose, VFW Henry Hart Post 1411, Cumberland Scottish Rite Bodies, and the Queen City Camping Club. He was a veteran of U.S. Army, having served in the Korean War.
Surviving are his wife, Rosemary (Brown) Caldwell, Cresaptown; two sons, Roger W. Caldwell and wife Sharon, Short Gap, W.Va., Donald Troy Helmstetter, Cresaptown; and two granddaughters, Nicole Todd and husband Reuben, Lynchburg, Va., and Michelle Caldwell, Morgantown, W.Va.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. John J. Duffus officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Military honors will be accorded at graveside by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
Contributions may be made to Shriner Childrens Hospital.
A Masonic Service will be conducted by the Potomac Lodge 100 AF & AM at the funeral home, Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Harry Hitchens, James Evans, Bob May, Willys Smelser, George Campbell, and Pete Brant, all members of the Queen City Travelers.
A pair of doves will be released at graveside in memory of Lou as a symbol of piece and love.
STEPHEN L. BROWN
WILMINGTON, Del. - Stephen L. Brown, 73, of Wilmington, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, at Christiana Hospital, Wilmington.
Born May 9, 1925, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Stephen L. Brown and Virginia Laura (Emmert) Brown. He also was preceded in death by a son, David L. Brown.
Mr. Brown was a retired instrument mechanic at Dupont's Deepwater Chamber Works site. While in Cumberland, he was employed by Coca Cola. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II; and was the oldest member of the OFOS Ski Club of Wilmington.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Deanie (Himmler) Brown; two sons, Stephen P. Brown and wife Jane, Wilmington, and Jerry L. Brown and wife Terry, Elkton, Md.; a daughter, Stephanie A. Harris and husband Keith, Newark, Del.; a daughter-in-law, Angela Brown, Wilmington; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A service will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Wayne Turner officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park.
PAUL J. BROWN
CUMBERLAND - Paul Jerome Brown, 26, of 216 Park St., Cumberland, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999, as a result of an auto accident on Rt. 51.
Born Feb. 25, 1973, in Cumberland, he was the son of Pearl Cecilia (Paige) Brown, Cumberland, and the late Thomas Hays Brown Sr.
Mr. Brown was employed by Rubbermaid Industries.
Surviving besides his mother are three brothers, Thomas Hays Brown Jr., Joseph Vincent Brown, and John David Brown; and one sister, Pearl Cecilia Brown, all of Cumberland.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Gary Curtis officiating.
Interment will be in Davis Memorial Park.
ALICE Y. COMBS
TITUSVILLE, Fla. - Alice Yarnall Combs, 89, of Titusville, died at the Parrish Medical Center, Titusville.
Born April 18, 1910, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late James Mordecai and Jane (Morgan) Yarnall. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Leo J. Yarnall, Seattle and Francis DeSales Yarnall, Washington; two sisters, Regina Y. Sell, Angela Y. Babst, both of Cumberland. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Combs was a 1928 graduate of Allegany High School and a 1930 graduate of Potomac State College. She was retired from the Department of the Navy, Washington. While in Florida, she was a member of St. Teresa's Catholic Church, Titusville.
Surviving are a niece, Phyllis Sell MacVeigh, Cumberland; nephews, Robert J. Yarnall, East Greenwich, R.I., and John Yarnall, Cumberland. She also is survived by nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
Funeral and interment services will be conducted at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Friday at 2 p.m. with Father Vance Pastorius, O.F.M., Cap. officiating.
Interment will be in SS Peter and Paul Cemetery.
Memorials can be made to SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church or the charity of the donor's choice.
PINEY W. BEADLES
CUMBERLAND - Piney Wiley Beadles, 88, of 1102 Frederick St., Cumberland, died Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Oct. 11, 1918, in Allen, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Merida Wiley and Carry (Stapleton) Wiley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harold Beadles, and two sons, William Gene Small, and Robert Eugene Small.
Mrs. Beadles was a homemaker. She was a member of the Cumberland Outdoor Club Auxiliary, Ladies Auxiliary Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 245, Post 13 American Legion Auxiliary, and the Cumberland Chapter 914 Women of the Moose.
Surviving are a son, Edward D. Small, Keyser, W.Va.; a daughter, Barbara I. Small, Cumberland; a brother, Clarence Wiley, Ocala, Fla.; four sisters, Effie Copley, Prestonsburg, KY, Dorothy Mullins, Wise, Va., Bessie Adkins, Newsport News, Va., Madge Jennings, Cattlettsburg, KY; a friend, Peggy Bridges, Ft. Ashby, W.Va.; and seven grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Tom Landaker officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
VIOLA P. CECIL
ASHTABULA, Ohio - Viola P. (Kimble) Cecil, 80, of Ashtabula, died Saturday, April 24, 1999, at Hamot Medical Center, Erie, Pa.
Born in Kline, W.Va., Jan. 10, 1919, she was the daughter of the late John D. and Samantha Kimble. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Cecil, in 1939.
She had resided in Ohio for 35 years and was retired from the Yoder Greenhouse.
She is survived by a son, Gary Cecil and wife, Velma, of R.R. 1, Keyser, W.Va.; one brother, John Kimble, R.R. 1, Keyser; four sisters, Nellie Oates, R.R. 1, Keyser, Mary Breedlove, Ashtabula, Eva Kidwell, Short Gap, W.Va., Hilda Evans, Fort Ashby, W.Va.; two granddaughters; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements were by Zaback-Czup Funeral Home, Ashtabula.
