DORIS J. GROVES (WAUGH)
MOUNTAIN LAKE PARK - Doris Jean Groves, age 61, of 110 Loch Lynn St., Mountain Lake Park, died Aug. 2, 1999, at Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va.
She was born Nov. 25, 1937, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and was a daughter of the the late Cecil Waugh and Nellie (Adams) Waugh.
She is survived by her husband, Robert B. Groves; one daughter, Linda L. Mattingly, Loveville, Md.; two sons, T. Shawn Groves, Mooresville, N.C., and R. Scott Groves, Mountain Lake Park; three brothers, Dodson Waugh, Berkeley Springs, Donald Waugh, Charles Town, W.Va., and Charles Waugh, Berkeley Springs; one sister, Caroline Gibson, Crellin; and five grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Durst Funeral Home in Oakland, on Tuesday from 12:00 until 1 p.m. at which time services will be conducted with the Rev. Gail Hixon officiating.
Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Terra Alta.
ELEANOR L. DYCHE
CUMBERLAND - Eleanor L. Dyche, 77, of Oldtown Road, Cumberland, died Monday, March 1, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Nov. 1, 1921, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late William Baron and Iva Mae (Holler) Sampsell. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Eugene Dyche; one sister, Phyllis Rinehart; and two brothers, George H. Sampsell and William R. Sampsell.
Mrs. Dyche was a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of Christ, Memorial Avenue.
Surviving are one daughter, Jane Howser and husband James, Fort Ashby; two sons, Edward Dyche and wife Sandra, Carlisle, Pa., and George Dyche and wife Elaine, Oldtown; one sister, Nancy Sites, Dorcas, W.Va.; one brother, Homer Sampsell, Cumberland; 10 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. with Ed Floyd officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Mark Howser, Kevin Howser, Phillip Dyche, James Dyche, George Dyche, Edward Dyche and Jim Howser.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 407 Central Ave., Reisterstown, MD 21136.
REV. ADAM E. GRIM
LAVALE - The Rev. Adam E. Grim, 85, of National Highway, LaVale, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999.
Born March 21, 1913, in Strinestown, Pa., he was the third of eight sons of the late Adam H. Grim and Bertha (Dittenhafer) Grim. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mabelle Snyder Grim.
Rev. Grim graduated from Shippensburg State Teachers College, Grantham Bible College and Wesley Theological Seminary. He was a minister of the Lord for more than 60 years. He began by serving seven Radical United Brethren churches, and then 16 United Methodist churches in the Baltimore Conference, including the Paw Paw Charge, the Thurmont Charge, the Grace/Mount Pleasant Charge of Cumberland, Walbrook and Homestead Churches in Baltimore, LaVale, LaPlata churches, and Centre Street church in Cumberland. After retiring from Centre Street United Methodist Church in 1980, the Rev. Adam E. Grim continued his service to Centre Street as Minister of Visitation to the church until his illness. He was also Pastor Emeritus of the church.
Surviving is his wife, Anna Moore Grim; a daughter, Evangeline J. Grim, Port Charlotte, Fla.; two stepsons, Gary Moore, Annapolis, Lind Moore and wife, Carol, Cumberland; one stepdaughter, Rebecca Moore, Crofton; two grandsons; two granddaughters; two great-grandsons; and two brothers, Robert Grim and wife, Donna, Clayton Grim and wife, Sonia, all of York, Pa.
Friends will be received at the Kight Funeral Home, 309-311 Decatur St., Cumberland, MD 21502, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the LaVale United Methodist Church on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Lloyd B. McCanna officiating.
Interment will be at Browns Mill cemetery near Greencastle, Pa.
Pallbearers will be Robert A. Byers, Andrew M. Byers, James Webb and Danny Evix.
The family has requested that contributions take the form of donations to Centre Street United Methodist Church Capital Improvements Fund.
Friends may call at the LaVale United Methodist Church on Saturday after 10 a.m.
MARKWOOD FAULKNER
CUMBERLAND - Markwood Faulkner, 64, of Mechanic Street, Cumberland, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, in Memorial Hospital.
Born on Feb. 18, 1934, in Ellerslie he was the son of the late Daniel A. and Rose Etta (Boor) Faulkner.
Mr. Faulkner was retired from the Cumberland Textile Dry Cleaners. He was a member of the Cresaptown Volunteer Fire Department and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a member of Cresaptown United Methodist Church.
He is survived by two sisters, Viola M. Winter and husband, Arthur, Cresaptown, and Elnora R. Nicholas and husband, Oral, Monongahelia, Pa.; and one brother, Elwood M. Faulkner and wife, Jean, Bowling Green. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted in the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Harold R. McClay Jr. officiating.
Interment will be in the Porter Cemetery.
JAMES GAFF
LAVALE - James Gaff, 45, son of the former John F. Gaff, a deceased railroad retiree of LaVale, passed away in Columbus, Ind., on Dec. 29, 1998.
He was laid to rest in the Garland Brook cemetery in Columbus. His services were attended by his wife, son, daughter, brother, and many very close friends along with the warm thoughts and sad hearts of relatives, friends, and business associates from around the country who were unable to attend the funeral due to the winter storm conditions in the midwest. His wife still resides at 2063 Fairfax Drive in Columbus, Ind.
ROY H. "CHUCK" DYE SR.
WESTERNPORT - Roy Harrison "Chuck" Dye Sr., 67, of 311 Johnson St., Westernport, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born March 19, 1931, in Franklin, he was the son of the late Harrison and Hester (McManus) Dye. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Helen Louise (Foreman) Dye; a son, Dennis Dye; three sisters, Nina Symons, Eva Brown, Roberta Dye; two brothers, Jim Dye and Clyde Dye.
Mr. Dye was a retired truck driver and painter. He was Pentecostal by faith.
He is survived by three sons, Roy H. Dye Jr., Lonaconing; Orrie Star Zais, Westernport, Robert Winters, Frostburg; four daughters, Patricia A. Wright, Lonaconing, Hester L. Smith, Frederick, Debra L. Hamilton, McCoole, Patricia Lease, Westernport; a brother, John Dye, Piedmont, W.Va.; two sisters, Betty Racey, Westernport, Teeny Gallagher, North Carolina; 19 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Friday, Jan. 8, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted there on Saturday, Jan. 9, at 11 a.m.
Interment will be in the Bloomington Cemetery.
JOHN F. DAVIS
BETHESDA - John F. Davis, 71, of Bethesda, died Feb. 8, 1999, at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital.
Born Feb. 10, 1927, in Keyser, W.Va., he was the son of the late Margaret (Gilmore) and Robert A. Davis. He also was preceded in death by two brothers, James Davis and Robert Davis.
Mr. Davis was a 1944 graduate of Allegany High School and a 1951 graduate of Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service. He joined the Central Intelligence Agency in August 1951, where he had a successful 41-year career, beginning as a translator of French and Italian documents, then turning to editing. Ulitmately, he became the CIA Intelligence Directorate's senior editor for national intelligence. During the height of the Cold War, he edited the "National Intelligence Estimate,"an annual report on the Soviet Union's military strength. He authored the CIA's "Style Guide for Intelligence Publications,"the Intelligence Directorate's primary style manual for 20 years. He was an avid opera lover and sang in several church choirs for almost 40 years.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Ada Romaine Davis; three children, Kevin Davis, Karen Evans-Romaine, and William Davis; one brother, Edward Davis and wife Janet; four sisters, Angela Pfeiffer and husband George, Mary Reed and husband James P., Margaret Smith and husband Bennett, and Kathleen Landers and husband John; and three grandchildren.
