CAROL M. GEISLER
OAKLAND - Carol M. Geisler, 65, of Laurel Brook Drive, Oakland, died Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, at the Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville.
Born on Nov. 14, 1933, in Cleveland, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Julia (Petrolini) Mance. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel E. Geisler in 1985, and one brother, Francis Mance.
Surviving are one daughter, Micki Brown, Steamboat Springs, Colo.; three sons, Jerry Geisler, McHenry, Daniel Geisler, Kensington, and Scott Geisler, Steamboat Springs, Colo.; one sister, Marie Schirtzinger, Chillocothe, Ohio; two brothers, Roger Mance, Imperial, Pa., and Thomas Mance, Pittsburgh, Pa., and six grandchildren.
The body will be cremated.
A memorial service will be conducted at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, on Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, at 11 a.m.
The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to the House of Hope, 202 S. Fourth St., Oakland, MD 21550.
WILLIAM J. DEVLIN
LONACONING - William James Devlin, 86, of 9 High St., Lonaconing, died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born March 12, 1912, in Lonaconing, he was a son of the late Terance Devlin and Nannie (Symons) Devlin. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, John, Henry, Ignatius and Joseph; and three sisters, Anna V. Devlin, Ellen Goldsworthy and Alice Steele.
Mr. Devlin was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Lonaconing, and also St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, Barton. He was a retired coal miner and retired Street Superintendent, Lonaconing. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America, and Holy Name Society of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Surviving are a sister, Bernadette Brown; and a brother, Thomas P. Devlin, both of Lonaconing; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing, on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Rosary Service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 8 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church on Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999, at 9:30 a.m.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Lonaconing.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, Barton, or to St. Mary's Catholic Church, Lonaconing.
PATRICIA A. GULICK
CUMBERLAND - Patricia Ann Gulick, 59, of 620 N. Centre St., Cumberland, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Feb. 24, 1940, in Bloomington, she was the daughter of the late Charles William Cassady and Hazel Mae (Moore) Cassaday.
Mrs. Gulick recently received a letter from Governor Parris Glendenning commending her for her many years of dedicated service as an employee of the Brandenberg Center. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are a son, Michael E. Gulick and wife, Pamela, Winchester, Kentucky; a daughter, Sherri Lynn Gulick, Rawlings; two brothers, Charles M. Cassady and wife, Carol, and Robert Cassady and wife, Helen, both of Cumberland; two granddaughters, Crystal Leigh Fetters and husband, Robert and Jessica Lynn Hinzman, both of Cumberland; five great-grandchildren, Shawn, Amanda, Amber Tallman, all of Cumberland, and Brandi Fetters a step-great-grandson, Robert Fetters, Jr.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Tom Landaker, officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
DERECK A. DEWITT
OAKLAND - Dereck Adam DeWitt, 17, of Oakland, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, as a result of a hunting accident.
Born August 22, 1982, in Oakland, he was the son of Michael J. DeWitt and Naomi Weeks DeWitt.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one brother, Michael A. DeWitt, Oakland; one half-sister, Kristy Lynn Meadows, Oakland; paternal grandparents, Maxwell and Gloria DeWitt, Oakland; and maternal grandparents, James and Lula Weeks, Oakland.
Friends may call at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted there Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Wally Weeks officiating.
Interment will be in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
Family suggests memorials be directed to the Southern Rescue Squad or the Oakland Volunteer Fire Department.
M. FRANCES GREEN
BARTON - M. Frances Green, 76, of 7752 Westernport Road, Barton, passed away Wednesday, May 12, 1999, at Garrett Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born Jan. 14, 1923, at Lonaconing, she was a daughter of the late John E. and Mary Ethel (Fazenbaker) Clark.
Mrs. Green was a homemaker and a member of the Georges Creek Church of the Brethren.
Surviving are her husband, Jesse Green; two daughters, Glenna Williford, Springfield, Va., Norma Rollins and husband, Jim, Accokeek; one sister, Dorothy Clark, Oakland; three grandchildren, Richard Rollins, Michael Rollins, Jeff Bittinger; and two great-grandchildren, Steven Rollins and Sydney Rollins.
The family will receive friends at the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Chapel on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Harry Patterson officiating.
Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Moscow Mills.
HARLAN DALE DEWITT
ACCIDENT - Harlan Dale DeWitt, 69, of 106 Main St., Ext., Accident, died Saturday, June 12, 1999, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Born Jan. 17, 1930, in Sang Run, he was a son of Odessa Evelyn (Frantz) DeWitt, a resident of Cuppett Weeks Nursing Home, Oakland, and the late Stephen W. DeWitt.
Mr. DeWitt was a tour bus driver, having driven for Greyhound and Schrock's Sightseeing Service, and was a co-founder and driver for DeWitt's Charter Service, Accident. He was a member of Cherry Glade Mennonite Church. Mr. DeWitt was a past judge of the Garrett County Orphan's Court and until recently was a member of Accident Post #208, American Legion. He and his wife established the Towne Restaurant in Oakland in 1981 and operated it until 1985, when they sold the business.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Betty Ruth (Ray) DeWitt; three sons, James D. DeWitt, Bridgeport, W.Va., John W. DeWitt, Sang Run, Richard L. DeWitt, McHenry; two daughters, Diane M. Yoder, Accident, Rebecca K. Hubbard, Thomas, W.Va.; a sister, Martha Eloise Davis, Accident; and six grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., McHenry, on Monday and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Cherry Glade Mennonite Church with the Rev. Oren Bender officiating, assisted by the Rev. Michael Ray and the Rev. Daniel Agnew, both brothers-in-law of Mr. DeWitt. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in Hoyes Methodist Cemetery.
BERNICE M. GROWDEN
FREDERICK - Mrs. Bernice M. Growden, 72, of 10215 Old Liberty Road, Frederick, died Sunday, March 7, 1999, at her home after a 12-year battle with cancer.
She was born Feb. 13, 1927, in Beans Cove, Pa. She was a daughter of the late Francis J. and Mary A. (Donahoe) Michaels. She was the wife of Lawrence E."Bill" Growden, her husband of 48 years.
She was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, Libertytown; Mount Pleasant Homemakers Club; Court of St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton Catholic Daughters; and Woodman of the World Court #6, Cumberland. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed bowling.
Surviving in addition to her husband are one daughter, Donna Growden Rothlauf and grandson Andrew William Rothlauf of Walkersville; three sisters, Wanda Sweitzer, Leona Crowe and husband John, of Cumberland, and Fay Shelton and husband Richard of Stauton, Va.; two brothers, Francis"Jake" Michaels and wife Lauretta, and Victor Michaels and wife Dorothy of Cumberland; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Leo G. Michaels.
She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
The family will receive friends at the Hartzler Funeral Home, Libertytown, Tuesday, March 9, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 8:45 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, March 10, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, Libertytown, with the Rev. Father John Dietzenbach, her pastor, officiating.
Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery.
